AN Indian restaurant in Bicester has been recognised for its excellence in serving customers during the pandemic.
Shakil's on Sheep Street has won Best Asian Restaurant of the Year in Central England at the Asian and Curry Awards 2020.
Hassan Chowdhury, who works at the family-run restaurant managed by his uncle, says the award comes after the team's efforts in serving the community during the height of the pandemic.
He said: "We stayed open during both lockdowns offering takeaways. We also delivered meals to NHS workers at Bicester Community Hospital. We've always tried to be a part of the community.
"I'm surprised we won but it all comes down to our customers who have continued to support us. We serve food to a high standard and we're glad to be recognised. We'll continue to run the restaurant how it is."
