Bethel trustee Hathaway dies in four wheeler crash

BETHEL TOWNSHIP — Rod Hathaway, a longtime Bethel Township trustee and farmer, 83, died Sunday following a four-wheeler crash on Gilead Lake Road.
Hathaway was headed north on Gilead Lake Road just south of Schmidt Road when his enclosed 2020 Polaris Ranger crossed the center line and left the road. It went through the ditch and into a grove of small trees, then turned onto its side as it hit a tree. Hathaway was thrown from the ATV.
Bronson Fire Department was called just after 10 a.m. and responded with LifeCare and Branch County sheriff’s deputies. Emergency personnel administered CPR at the scene.
