Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced her government will be taking steps to make NSW a centre for ongoing MRNA vaccine research and manufacture.
The premier said NSW would build up a team of people led by NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer Hugh Durrant-Whyte and would collaborate with universities.
“The technology is already here,” she said in Tuesday’s press conference.
“This is an opportunity for us to lead the way as far as Australia is concerned in manufacturing not just a vaccine that will deal with COVID but vaccines and other cures for illnesses regarding genomics.”
