Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA) edged Team 409 59-58 in a tense affair during the opening match of the 5.11 National Basketball League at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat last night.
Team 409 recovered from an eight-point deficit when the score was 29-21 deep into the second quarter and appeared to have gathered momentum after back-to-back three pointers.
However, BDBA responded with a three-pointer through Heng Fook Yuan in the crucial moment of the game to stay in touch with their opponents.
BDBA looked to have sealed the tie with seconds to spare after breaking into a counter but a player could not retrieve the ball, enabling Team 409 possession for an opportunity of a dramatic winner.
