Welcome to bbc news. Fighting is continuing between israel and the iran backed group hezbollah, as the Middle East braces itself for a possible retaliation by israel on iran. In the lastest strikes, the Israeli Army has bombed a mosque in Southern Lebanon, which israel says was being used as a Command Centre by hezbollah fighters. The building was next to a hospital. The humanitarian situation in lebanon is worsening, with at least four hospitals now closed in the south because of israeli Air Strikes. The World Health Organization says at least 37 Health Care facilities have closed since israel began its Air Bombardment of lebanon two weeks ago. In the northern port of tripoli, an israeli strike on an Apartment Building is reported to have killed a hamas commander, saeed atallah. Three members of his family are also reported killed. Over the border, israeli aircraft have been in constant action, as hezbollah fires more rockets into israel, and fights back. Nick beake, bbc news, in Northern Israel. Well speak live to nick later in the programme. These are live pictures of beirut, you can see smoke continuing to fill the skyline as those strikes and their aftermath continued. Israel and hezbollah have reported more fighting in Southern Lebanon as the israeli Ground Offensive continues. An update from the israel defense force. Earlier, hezbollah said it had targeted an Air Nearthe Hezbollah said it had targeted an air near the city of haifa in Northern Israel. This Idf Update says that two projectiles were identified crossing into israeli territory from lebanon and that these were intercepted by the israeli Air Force, one of them intercepted by the israeli Air Force, the other falling an open area. In the last hour, there have been reports of sirens sounding in the central Galilee Area of Northern Israel. Our correspondent in Beirut Lina Sinjab has the latest on the situation in lebanon. Its the pattern of overnight Air Strikes here in beirut, especially in the southern, uh, neighbourhood of dahiya, hezbollah stronghold, where the israelis have been pounding the Area Night after night. Uh, tonight, the Air Strikes also targeted, you know, parts of it. Some of the smoke can be seen from the international airport that is operating to evacuate those who want to leave out of lebanon and, you know, having to escape for their own safety. So these are kind of, you know, attacks that are worrying people more and more, uh, israelis, um, attacks are expanding beyond south of beirut. You know, weve heard about the attack in tripoli that targeted a Hamas Leader along with his family. And, of course, the Battle In The South is still ongoing, with more Air Strikes now even targeting a medicalfacilities and a mosque that israel says hezbollah is operating inside. For many here, you know, there is no one to stop israel or verify what they are saying or claiming that, you know, Health Facilities and mosques are being used for hezbollah and that anywhere could be the next target for israel. And lets talk about those Health Facilities, because were hearing now that at least four hospitals have now closed in the south as a consequence of israeli Air Strikes. What are we hearing from medical staff . You mentioned there, of course, israel is saying that thats because they believe hezbollah operatives are being are using some of those areas. But what are we hearing from doctors on the ground . Well, to start with, this is not only the four hospitals that are closed now. 37 hospitals are out of service because of fear of Air Strikes and because medical staff had to flee for their own safety. Many of the medical staff are running around the clock trying to help with the injured, especially in the south. But now they have become the target. You know, overnight there are nine people, nine paramedics that have been injured. Hezbollah says that at least 11 were killed. And even two days ago, the attack here in Central Beirut targeted the medical facility where at least six paramedics were killed. So, you know, the medical staff here are very much worried. They are there to help. Theyre there to run and rescue. Red cross, and ambulances are running around the clock, whether here in beirut or in the south of lebanon. So the last they want to see that they become the target under the allegation that hezbollah is using theirfacilities and their ambulances to Traffic Fighters and arms. They are running around the clock, as i said, to help. This is their mandate to be there in in times of peace and in times of war, where they are mostly needed at these times. And lina, this, of course, has led to more than A Million people now displaced inside lebanon. Fears of a growing humanitarian crisis. What more can you tell us about the plight of people whove been forced to flee their homes . Its a catastrophic situation here. The government says that 1. 2 million have fled. And of course, they dont have all the figures and numbers of those who sought safety. Some people who have the money and manage to find, you know, homes to rent or hotels to stay in or went further up to the mountains, probably are not calculated within these figures. And the ones who sought help from the government were told at least 900 shelters are full with people displaced, and the number is on the rise because the attacks are not stopping and they are in different locations and different areas. So the number is likely to increase. And dont forget, also weve had like almost 300,000 who fled from the Bekaa Valley on the masnaa crossing into syria. That crossing itself is now out of service because israel also targeted this area, saying that hezbollah is trafficking, you know, is, uh, you know, smuggling weapons into lebanon from syria, from that border crossing. And we know that, you know, this is the main border crossing, uh, you know, that is the way to escape for thousands of civilians who Lina Sinjab in beirut. Our bbc teams have reported hearing another strike in the south of the city. You can see fresh plumes of smoke rising. We are trying to get more information about what exactly is happening on the ground. We can hear the sound and the cameras have moved, to the sound of another blast, there. What we are hearing from our teams is that that strike we mentioned before appears to have hit an area close to the airport, where evacuations of foreign nationals are continuing. According to our bbc teams, they touted three strikes in that area alone so far today. And of course, you heard the sound of another strike there. We will of course try to make contact with lina and the team to get more on the developments on the ground but the pictures and there is life scenes across beirut do a lot of the talking for us as well because it is clear to see that more Air Strikes continue to hit the lebanese capital, beirut. I mention israel, because we are, in a moment, going to be speaking to our corresponding Nick Beake, who is at the border in israel. We have been talking about these Air Strikes. This map shows recorded strikes across the region up until friday night. Attacks by israel are shown in red and those by hezbollah rockets fired into israel are in purple. Israel has ordered residents in these southern lebanese communities about 30 villages here marked in orange, to leave their homes. Lets speak to our correspondent Nick Beake whos in Northern Israel. We have been talking about these Evacuation Orders in the region. What else is going on . Where we are right in the north of israel, there has been a volley of Rockets Hezbollah have fired from lebanon, into Northern Israel. We have heard some of them, one of them landing a couple of hundred metres away. This has become a daily reality for israelis living in this part of the country, and it is the central justification, the Prime Minister says, for this Ground Invasion into lebanon. He says that it invasion into lebanon. He says Thatitis Invasion into lebanon. He says that it is only after hezbollah have been pushed back, other weapons destroyed band this Buffer Zone created that israelis can go back to communities near the border and to live in peace. But we have heard the impact on lebanese civilians. More than A Million people now displaced. So that is what is happening where we are at the moment. We is what is happening where we are at the moment. Is what is happening where we are at the moment. We have been heaļ¬na are at the moment. We have been hearing from are at the moment. We have been hearing from israeli are at the moment. We have been hearing from israeli officials. Hearing from israeli officials. I spoke to an idf spokesperson yesterday, that they are preparing for some sort of retaliation against iran, after iran fired those ballistic missiles towards israel earlier in the week. What more are you hearing about what that retaliation might look like, and when it might come . There are reports and when it might come . There are reports in and when it might come . There are reports in the and when it might come . There are reports in the israeli are reports in the israeli media that there will be a significant response to the iranian Missile Attack on tuesday night, but we still dont know the nature of that. In the days that followed the assault, almost 180 ballistic missile sent by iran. There has been speculation about what israel will do. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that there would be great consequences for tauranga in light of this attack. In the meantime for tehran. It has been ajewish meantime for tehran. It has been a jewish new year, so families have been getting together marking that. There was speculation there would not be a big response while static place. The new year celebrations have really finished now, come to an end. Say celebrations, they have been muted this year. In the meantime we have been hearing cheaply from the united states. President biden has been asked almost daily Beauty Support this or that. First of all he said he would not support any sort of israeli attack on iranian facilities linked to nuclear weapons or nuclear technology specifically that the iranians might be working on. Then he said that there were conversations going on were conversations going on were potentially there could be Air Strikes on the iranian oil industry. We have heard that the White House may not be in favour of acts of the short answer is we dont know but there is an expectation that israel, having promised to respond, will retaliate, and that could be pretty soon. Nick beake in Northern Israel, thank you. Back to the scene live over beirut. We are hearing as we mentioned moments ago from our colleagues in beirut, who have reported hearing more strikes in the south of the city. They say that these latest tracks appear to have hit an area close to the airport, burj el bradna. That live shot speaks for itself, you can see the smoke in the air after those strikes. We mentioned the airport. Evacuation flights for foreign nationals are continuing from beirutļæ½ s International Aiport , despite israeli Air Strikes on nearby suburbs. Britain has flown three Charter Flights, with a fourth due to leave on sunday. The south korean Air Force flew out 97 nationals early on saturday. Australia which had 15,000 citizens in lebanon has been flying aircraft from nearby cyprus. These are the latest pictures of australian citizens and their relatives arriving in larnaca. There are also plans for a seaborne evacuation. China said 200 of its citizens had been safely evacuated. Protests are taking place across the World Today as thousands take to the streets to voice their opposition to the bloody conflict in the Middle East. These were the scenes in Cape Town earlier where demonstrators called for an end to the israel hamas conflict. It comes as the one Year Anniversary of the October 7th attacks approaches on monday. There are also protests taking place in Central London. I spoke to our News Correspondent Divya talwar, as people gathered before marching to whitehall. The organisers told me they expected to turn out to be big and it looks like this is exactly what we have got. There are few thousand people who turned up on the streets of the capital to take part in this demonstration. You might be able to see behind me people carrying palestinian flags, placards and banners, with the words, ceasefire now, and stop the bombing in lebanon. There are people of different ages, faiths and backgrounds, people who have come from all parts of the uk. I have spoken to people from stoke, birmingham, and they say that they feel helpless. I spoke to one woman who said that she has palestinian families who have been killed in gaza. Now the demonstrators here are calling for a ceasefire in gaza, and an end to the escalating violence in the Middle East. The Plan Todayis in the Middle East. The Plan Today is for the Demonstrators Today is for the demonstrators to walk up to whitehall, from russell square, in the next few minutes. In whitehall, a number of people are expected to give speeches. There is a counterdemonstration, by the group, stop the hate. The police have told me there was a significant Police Operation in place. We expect the Demonstration Today to be peaceful. Police say that if people do cross the line, then arrests will be made quickly. We can show you the scene live in Central London as those protests, calling for a ceasefire in gaza, continue on. You can see hundreds of people peacefully marching through the centre of the capital, many holding placards and palestinian flags. Now its time for a look at todays sport. The Uk Government will unveil a major package of reforms to workers rights next week. Labour promised to introduce legislation for what it calls its ļæ½ new deal for working people in the first 100 days after winning the election. Lets get more from bbc political correspondent harry farley. They promised this during the election, and they said that they would implement it or bring in the legislation in the first 100 days. That deadline is next weekend, and were expecting the legislation to be published on thursday, but it has been subject to very intense negotiation between unions, on the one hand, and Business Lobby groups on the other. In terms of the details you asked about, so theyve said theyll introduce rights from Day One for workers on things like parental pay, sick Pay And Protection from unfair dismissal. So rather than the current situation here in the uk, where you have to be working somewhere for six months before you can get Maternity Pay, that would happen from Day One, according to what labour have promised. Rather than waiting for two years before you can claim for unfair dismissal, that would also happen for Day One, but a lot of the negotiations and the Fine Print are still being worked through. So, for example, does Day One mean at the end of your Probation Period, or does it mean alongside your Probation Period . How long should Probation Periods be . All those sort of Fine Tuning has been subject to very intense negotiations between the unions and business groups. You talk about those negotiations. What have been the sticking points, then . Well, for example, things like whether Day One does mean the very first day you work at a company, or does it start after your Probation Period, for example . And how do you balance, i suppose, the interests of businesses who want to have perhaps more flexible rules around how they fire and rehire, for example, or, you know, and for example, other things like should this promise for Maternity Pay be from the very first Day Someone works at a company . My understanding is that most of these details have been in place. Were getting the legislation on thursday, but because of this 100 Day Self imposed deadline, a lot of it will be subject to consultation. And just briefly, what about the reaction from businesses . So business groups, they are somewhat concerned at some of the proposed measures. Unions, on the other hand want the government to go further. And thats, i suppose, been the tension thats been at the heart of this. Returned to the live scene looking over beirut, as our teams on the Ground Say that they have heard more strikes hitting the south of the city. Stay with us, here on bbc news. Hello there. A quiEt Start to the weekend of weather, and it looks likely that most of us will keep some dry weather throughout the day today. This was norwich earlier on. A little bit misty. First thing in the morning. Thats lifted away. Weve got sunny spells and well keep sunny spells. Further north and west more in the way of thicker cloud. But even across northern ireland, portrush and along the causeway coast, here its dry, the rain staying out towards western fringes. Theres some rain pushing its way through scotland thats drifting its way steadily northwards, easing from parts of aberdeenshire. Youll see some brightness to close out the day here. For the bulk of england and wales. Dry with light southerly winds and some sunny spells coming through even northern ireland. Most of that rain should stay well out to the west. So in terms of the feel of the weather, not bad out there. 15 to 17 degrees quite widely across the country. Through this evening and overnight, low pressure will start to push in from the atlantic. And this Frontal System will bring further showery outbreaks of rain with it. It is going to be pretty hit and miss as we go through the night, but with The Cloud and the rain around, well, temperatures will hold up quite widely into double digits. So well start off Tomorrow Morning with certainly more cloud than weve seen today. And some of this rain down towards the South West and into wales could turn quite heavy and quite potent. Sheltered central and eastern areas will keep the best of the drier weather. Still the risk of an isolated shower, but they will be fairly isolated and temperatures pretty much similar to today. But this rain could be quite heavy and potent as it continues to push its way through the midlands up into the north of england to close out sunday. Now, as we move into monday, low pressure is going to stay with us and we will see showers or longer spells of rain to start the week. By the middle part of the week, well need to keep a close eye on this area of low pressure. Im sure youve heard us mentioned it has the remnants of Ex Hurricane Kirk in it at the moment. It wants to move to the south of the uk, but there is a chance it could be further north. Keep watching the forecast. Once that low moves through, however, the Wind Direction changes to a northerly and it will turn colder as we head towards the weekend. So a pretty unsettled week ahead, with showers or longer spells of rain. Some of it could be quite heavy across southern england and then colder into next weekend. This is bbc news, the headlines. Israel is persisting in its bombardment of beirut, with several sites hit across the lebanese capital over the past few hours. In the countrys south, the idf says it has bombed a mosque which it claims was used as a hezbollah Command Centre. Its estimated 1. 2 million people have been displaced as a result of the conflict, with the United Nations saying more than 200,000 have fled into neighbouring syria. The crossing between the countries has been bombed, leaving the stranded to make the journey on foot. More foreign nationals have been evacuating lebanon.
