Just a flavour of the Remarks and all of the others. Just a flavour of the Remarks from L Flavour of the Remarks from donald trump. We will keep listening across that and bring you any significant lines there and so many communities across the many states they are in the us deal with the aftermath of hurricane helene. We head to the Middle East. There are Reports Tonight that a us official says israel intends to launch a Ground Offensive in lebanon, which could begin as soon as today. Israeli tanks are gathering by the countrys northern border. Israels defense minister, who was visiting troops today, told them the next phase of the war will begin soon. Hezbollah has said its prepared for all out war. Our middle East Correspondent Lucy williamson has been to northern israel and has this report. Israels army is moving closer to a Ground Invasion. The lebanese border, just a couple of miles away, the next redline in this war. Tens of thousands of forces moved up from gaza were told by their Chief Of Staff that they would soon step on enemy soil. And tonight, reports from us media that a limited Ground Invasion could start as soon after today. At the border, Israels Defense minister kept up the suspense. Israel would use all means required to return the evacuated communities to their homes, he said. Forces from the air, the sea and on land. Israel has been talking up its readiness to launch a Ground Offensive against hezbollah, but sending these tanks across the border would mean a very different kind of battle to the Air Strikes and intelligence its relied on so far fighting hezbollah on territory it controls, territory where its been planning a confrontation like this for years. In the Border Town of rosh pina, they watched israel step up its offensive this month against hezbollah leaders, its communications, its weapons. Many say they shouldnt stop there. See all this, all this is from now. These are all the alert sirens you get. You see, look, look, yes. To warn you that there might be something coming over the border towards you . Yes, when we have rockets, i dont have the time to go to the safe place. I dont have the time. What needs to happen for you to feel safe . To kill all the terrorists and finish, finish this situation. One year, every day, rockets, rockets, rockets and the americans said, dont, dont, dont. Come on, come on. Every morning. He imitates siren. Boom, boom. Its not life. Isreal s Prime Minister, often proud of defying his allies, is looking beyond hezbollah to its backer, iran, warning against any retaliation from tehran. There is nowhere in the middle East Israel cannot reach. There is nowhere we will not go to protect our people and protect our country. With every passing moment, the regime is bringing you, i the noble persian people, closer to the abyss. Miscalculation was once seen as the biggest risk in triggering full Scale War along this border, but israels assessment appears to have changed. The miscalculation many fear now is faith in the idea of a limited war. Lucy williamson, Bbc News, at the israel lebanon border. Ive been speaking to jon donnison, whos our correspondent injerusalem, and asked him if a Ground Incursion was imminent. We dont know exactly when its going to happen, and we dont know what scale it will take and how long it will last. Now, we did get a pretty good sense from yoav gallant, the defense minister, as we heard in lucys report there, that it could be pretty soon. He was talking about a possible incursion as soon as today, so thats in the next few hours. But i think whats important to remember is that it could initially be quite limited and quite incremental. So it may be that israeli forces go over in one particular sector of the border. They might not push in too deeply to start with. They might then move on to another sector further along the border. Im not sure anyone is anticipating thousands of troops to cross over the border along the whole length of that frontier. So we do think its increasingly likely that its going to happen soon, but we dont know exactly what form that will take. And do we know what kind of response that could be met with . We dont. I mean, one things important to remember is that theres no one living in that part of Southern Lebanon at the moment. But hezbollah, as lucy was saying, have been preparing for this sort of possible incursion, invasion foryears. So they will be ready. Obviously, their leadership has been decimated over the past few weeks, but they still have considerable numbers of forces, very well trained. Theyre operating on their own territory, so theyre going to fight back. And certainly when weve seen previous invasions, most recently in 2006 when there was the full Scale War between israel and hezbollah, israel suffered a lot of casualties and they eventually were eventually pushed back. Now, israel will have undoubtedly learnt from that. Hezbollah has undoubtedly been weakened over the past few weeks, but they will face resistance. And, jon, given that this potentially could be happening in the next few hours or next few days, what level of support does a move like this have within ordinary people in the country there . A lot. I think the big difference between the war against hezbollah and the war in gaza is that when it comes to gaza, the israeli public, the israeli politicians, the israeli government is very much divided on strategy there. There are many people in israel, the families of some of the hostages still being held there, who feel that israel should be prioritising a ceasefire and a Hostage Release Deal instead of continuing its military military operations in gaza. That is not the case when it comes to hezbollah in lebanon. I think the country is united behind the Prime Minister, benjamin netanyahu. He senses that. He senses that hes got hezbollah very much under pressure, and hes determined to push forward. In the past hour, we heard from Matthew Miller from the us State Apartment about what his department has been told by their israeli counterparts regarding any ground operation. We have been having conversations and ive seen reports conversations and ive seen reports about ground operations. We have had some conversations with them about that conversations with them about that. They have at this time told that. They have at this time told us that. They have at this time told us they are limited operations focusing on hezbollah infrastructure near the border but we are in continuous conversations about it. Lina khatib, an Associate Fellow at Chatham House and director of the soas Middle East institute, told me more about the significance of these escalations. Its a transformative. Moment in the conflict, because a Ground Incursion| basically means full on war will begin. This is a scenario that many had hoped would not happen, including hezbollah itself. But at the same time, this means that this conflict is not going to end any time soon, because a Ground Incursion is going to be. Something that hezbollah is well prepared for. Hezbollah has a lot of experience in asymmetrical warfare, so this is notl going to be a swiftjob. So what are the. You mentioned there, this asymmetrical warfare. What in your eyes, then, are some of the advantages that hezbollah would potentially have here . First of all, Hezbollah Foughtl Israel through Ground Warfare for almost two decades, i during the days when israel was occupying Southern Lebanon in the 805 and 905. And this experience i has been passed down within hezbollah. And lets not forget, hezbollah has also been fighting similarly in syria, so a lot of its troops have experience in. This kind of warfare. The second thing i is the infrastructure in Southern Lebanon, such as hezbollahs tunnels. Now were hearing that Special Operations from israel have i entered some of those tunnels and, you know, gathered important intelligence. However, this is an extensive network and not easily infiltrated. And hezbollah will. Definitely be using it. And the third thing is, of course, hezbollah fought israel in the 805 and 905 using technology that is Primitive Comparedl to todays technology. And so even if hezbollahs technological capacity has been really devastated by israel, l today, hezbollah can still put up a fight using, you know, more i would say modest means. Thanks for that. Here, it is the second day of the Conservative Partys annuaL Conference. This Years Event is also a chance for the partys four leadership candidates to audition for the top job. Lets speak to our political correspondent rob watson, who is at the conference in birmingham. Whats been happening today . Greeting. The first thing i would say is really for a party that received its biggest thumping since wait for it, 1832, the earliest 19th century, the conservatives seem to be remarkably upbeat. They have been hearing from two of the four remaining candidates, thats kemi Badenoch And Tom tugendhat, they have been essentially making their pitches to what they should take over the Conservative Party. I should say there are not vast ideological differences as all four candidates believe in the sort of core conservative principles of core conservative principles of ideally a smaller state and lower taxes. And all are saying is they really need to unite after the kicking they got in 2024, back injuly this year. Remind us of stages because even though the conference here has been dominated by this leadership contest, we are not actually going to know a winner anytime soon. We actually going to know a winner anytime soon anytime soon. We are not and ou anytime soon. We are not and you might anytime soon. We are not and you might face anytime soon. We are not and you might face a anytime soon. We are not and you might face a very anytime soon. We are not and you might face a very odd anytime soon. We are not and you might face a very odd way to design a talent show. The way we are used to seeing the on the bc and No Doubt other channels is the four candidates do their thing, the audience give their bow and bingo you know the result. Thats not whats happening here. The four candidates all get to address the conference but it wont be until after the conference that the Conservative Party in parliament, the mps would the list down to two, then that goes back out to membership and we will actually get the result until november the 2nd. So its not your conventional beauty, talent contest. Has not your conventional beauty, talent contest. Talent contest. As for the conference talent contest. As for the conference itself, talent contest. As for the conference itself, are talent contest. As for the L Conference itself, are there big discussions going on as well as a leader, which is clearly a crucial issue, but about things like looking at what went wrong at the election at the king about central policies for the years ahead . All of those things. Interestingly the man who used to be chancellor, jeremy hunt, he wore the party, look, you cannotjust he wore the party, look, you cannot just assume the Governing Labour Party are going to mess things up even though most conservative here think thats exactly what is going to happen. Thats not going to happen. Thats not going to happen. Thats not going to be good enough is that we will need to figure out what is our modern conservative message to the country. How do we stay united and become up with a plant people are going to believe . Is going to be an uphill struggle in the following sentence on the latest polling suggests that one of the things that did for the conservative at the last election was a people did not trust them. Something like two thirds thought you just cannot trust the Conservative Party to keep his promises. {lita trust the Conservative Party to keep his promises. Keep his promises. 0k, rob, thank you keep his promises. 0k, rob, thank you so keep his promises. 0k, rob, thank you so much keep his promises. 0k, rob, thank you so much that keep his promises. 0k, rob, i thank you so much that update. This comes a few minutes after afp reporting that israel has declared part of its northern Border Region, a couple of zones there, as closed military zones. This is after we know that tanks have been gathering at the border, in a few hours ago, we learned that israel told the us that It Plans to launch a limited Ground Incursion.
