A harley Street Doctor who worked for the Harrods Owner mohamed Al Fayed has denied carrying intrusive Sexual Health tests on women who worked for him. Several women have told the bbc that Dr Ann Coxon carried out the medical checks while working for him, including a woman who was just 16 at the time. Mr Al Fayed is accused of multiple rapes and Sexual Assaults by female staff raising questions about what those around him at the time knew, and how they may have enabled his actions. Those closest to him included his security team, his senior personal assistants, in his private office, the Press Office who defended him over stories of alleged Sexual Harassment and assault, and doctors who would allegedly carry out intrusive medical examinations, including wendy snell, whos since died, and Dr Ann Coxon, who as Helena Wilkinson reports, the bbc spoke to today. Do you have anything to say to the victims, Dr Coxon . This is Dr Ann Coxon, who worked for the former Harrods Boss mohamed Al Fayed. Multiple women have told the bbc that she carried out medical checks on them when he owned the store. I have no comment. Do you regret working for mr Al Fayed . No. You dont . Bbc news has been trying to contact Dr Coxon since the documentary was broadcast. Today, we managed to track her down. Did you carry out Std Testsi on Harrods Staff members . No. I did not. Youre being accused of doing so, i do you have anything to say on that . No comment. Dr coxon s denial about carrying out Std Test contradicts women the bbc has spoken to, including kate not her real name who was 16 when she says she was raped by Al Fayed. She also said she was sent for an intrusive medical examination with Dr Coxon. Kate is portrayed by an actor. When i first started working for mohamed Al Fayed, he soon started asking me inappropriate questions, like, did i have a boyfriend . Had i been sexually active . I was only 16 years old and i was a virgin, and he soon discovered that. So it was organised for me to see Dr Ann Coxon of Harley Street for a medical examination. This was offered to me as a perk for working in the chairmans office. Dr coxon asked me to do internal examination. She wanted to test for hiv and stds but i said that i wasnt sexually active yet, so therefore it was unnecessary. My concerns were brushed off and i was told that an internal examination was necessary. I remember feeling very confused. According to the women weve spoken to, in many cases their confidential medical results were sent directly to Al Fayed. Today, the current harrods Managing Director made a public statement for the first time since the Bbc Documentary a week ago. Michael ward said. I wanted to convey my personal horror at the revelations that have emerged over the past week. As we have already stated, we failed our colleagues and for that we are deeply sorry. It is now clear that he presided over a toxic culture of secrecy, intimidation, fear of repercussion and sexual misconduct. Also today, harrods said that, following a review over the past year, it had introduced 50 Sexual Harassment officers. Theyre specially trained to deal with workers who have complaints about Sexual Harassment. Harrods has also got a Settlement Process in place for alleged victims. The growing number of women who accuse Al Fayed of horrific attacks now want answers. Helena wilkinson, bbc news. Tonight, Israels Military has confirmed it is carrying out more strikes against hezbollah in southern lebanon, after a week of heavy bombing. Lets go straight to anna foster, whos in beirut for us. Anna. Thanks, reeta. Its been another day of heavy cross border fighting, its been another day of heavy cross borderfighting, here in cross border fighting, here in lebanon cross borderfighting, here in lebanon more than 19 people have been killed and in the last hour Israels Air Force has confirmed its fighterjets have hit more than 220 hezbollah targets, they are in different places around the country, in the south of lebanon, in the Bekaa Valley to the east and also again here in the capital, beirut. Around a0 projectiles were fired the other way, from lebanon into israel. All of this is happening is israels new prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares to address the Un General Assembly in New York tomorrow, he flew out today and has so far ignored calls for a ceasefire that have been put forward by World Leaders, instead telling his military to fight hezbollah with full force. In a moment, the latest from James Landale who will tell us about the behind the scenes talks happening in New York but first there was a fresh strike here in the heart of the lebanese Capital Beirut a few hours ago and just a few kilometres away from where im standing. Israel said that they were targeting a top Hezbollah Commander and i went to see what happened. Fear in the heart of the lebanese capital. Moments after an israeli missile strike, dust from a destroyed home fills the air. Its less than an hour since this Air Strike was reported in the southern suburbs of beirut and i just want to show you, you can see there, this is an apartment on the first, second floor, and you can really see the damage thats been caused. Now, the idf have described this as a precision strike. When they carry out these operations in the southern suburbs theyre normally targeting the senior leadership of hezbollah. The israeli military released these pictures of the building being hit, killing, they say, the head of hezbollahs aerial command, muhammad hossein sarur. At least two people were killed here and 15 injured. Talk of a ceasefire feels far away from the streets of beirut. Today was supposed to be about De Escalation, a pause to calm tensions, but scenes like this make it hard to see how either side plans to step back from the brink of a new war. Since monday, more than 700 people have been killed by israeli strikes here in lebanon and more than 90,000 have been forced to flee their homes in the south and in the Bekaa Valley. Israel says it is Targeting Hezbollahs military infrastructure and its Missile Launch sites across the country but many civilians are among the dead, more than 50 of them were children. 0ur Senior International Correspondent 0rla Guerin reports from sebline, in southern lebanon. Firefighters rushing to another Air Strike. This one in nabatieh. They carry out the wounded. Not fighters, but children. Israel says its Targeting Hezbollah sites. But its bombing many residential areas. How old are you . He asks. Three fingers are raised. A young generation, now threatened by a war that has already killed at least 50 children this week, like the members of this family, who died together in a strike in beirut. Ali, jalal, fatima and farra, all gone. And iman and talia nasser, who took their last breaths together, also killed by israels bombardment. But some have made it to safety, having run for their lives. My name is Mehdi Ahmad and my years old is ten years old. And what has been happening in the last two days . You had to leave your house. The war is very Big And very scared and i cry. How did you feel, having to leave your home . Were you sad . Yes, i was very sad, he says. We left behind half our belongings. A missile landed near us. We went quickly so we wouldnt be hit. His biggest fear, he tells me, is losing his family. Instead of going to school, many lebanese children, like mehdi, are now living in schools and colleges. This could be home for some time. International calls for a ceasefire came to nothing today. 0rla guerin, bbc news, sebline, lebanon. Lets speak to our diplomatic correspondent James Landale whos in New York. Its stories like those that have led to the World Leaders pushing for a ceasefire, Benjamin Netanyahu will address the general assembling tomorrow. What tone do you expect him to take . I tomorrow. What tone do you expect him to take . Him to take . I think Mr Netanyahu will be as calibrated him to take . I think Mr Netanyahu will be as calibrated as him to take . I think Mr Netanyahu will be as calibrated as he him to take . I think Mr Netanyahu will be as calibrated as he always i will be as calibrated as he always is. He said Israels Military would continue hitting hezbollah with all its might until displaced, evacuated israeli citizens were back safely in their homes in Northern Israel. Now, what some diplomats have noted is that Mr Netanyahu has not thus far explicitly ruled out a ceasefire. They are drawing some hope from that. They are hoping that tomorrow Mr Netanyahu will be as pugnacious and uncompromising in public as he normally is but in private they hope he will be more amenable and more considered. Suddenly tonight the americans and israelis are locked in intensive talks about this. The argument the americans are making is that All Out War will not make Northern Israel safer but a negotiated settlement would. 0ther diplomats though here i have to say are more pessimistic. They fear that Mr Netanyahu, who will be swayed more by domestic pressure than the international pressure hes under here. One said to me, were inching closer to the brink, not back from it. James landale, our diplomatic correspondent in New York. It means once again tomorrow morning, people out of their homes both in lebanon and Northern Israel will be watching anxiously to see if that Diplomacy Thousands of miles away can lead to some kind of De Escalation in this growing tense conflict. Reeta. Thanks, anna. Sir Keir Starmer is also at the un meeting in New York. Hes due to speak very soon and weve just learnt about who hell be meeting whilst hes there. Lets go straight to chris mason, our political editor tell us more can you guess . Here we are on Fifth Ave in New York and behind me, trump tower. The Prime Minister will be here shortly to meet donald trump. He thinks it is important to meet international leaders, talk to them face to face and get to know them. The twist is donald Trump Isnt a world leader, he is merely a candidate and the Prime Minister is not going to meet the democratic candidate kamala harris. She is in washington and they say Diary Commitments meant that couldnt come together and instead they will try and talk at some point. What might be on the agenda here . I suspect ukraine. Donald trump has been sceptical about ongoing us support for kyiv and Keir Starmer are unlikely to impress upon him as he seesit unlikely to impress upon him as he sees it the value of that ongoing american support. That meeting due to take place here in a couple of hours time. First though the Prime Minister addressing the Un General Assembly, sketching out his broader foreign Policy Outlook before he heads here and may be in a couple of hours, there might be a picture of the two of the Meeting And Greeting here at trump tower. Here at trump tower. Thank you. Chris mason here at trump tower. Thank you. Chris mason in here at trump tower. Thank you. Chris mason in new here at trump tower. Thank you. Chris mason in New York. And Paddy 0connell will have more on Newsnight On Bbc Two shortly. Watching your news we will get a sum it up like this, New York is the crossroads of the world tonight. We will ladies and gentlemen. I address The General Assembly ladies and gentlemen. I address the general Assembly Today ladies and gentlemen. I address the general Assembly Today as ladies and gentlemen. I address the| general Assembly Today as someone with a deep belief in the principles of this body. In the value of international cooperation. I remember reading the Universal Declaration Of Human Rights as a student and it had a profound impact on me. I spent my career as a lawyer, working to protect those rights. In the declaration still inspires me now as Prime Minister. Because it speaks about our inherent dignity, the very existence of what it is to be human essence. Equal and unalienable rights based on the foundation of freedom, Justice And Peace in the world. Yet as we meet here today, that can feel like a distant hope, conflict touches more countries now than any time in the history of this assembly. Around the world, buyers are breaking out and burning with ever greater intensity. Exacting a terrible toll. In gaza, lebanon, ukraine, sudan, me and mar, yemen and beyond. The vast majority of humanitarian Need Today is driven by conflict and after 20 years of gains in tackling poverty, disease and in health. 0r gains in tackling poverty, disease and in health. Or in the main regions of progress has stalled. That is a catastrophe made by human hands. It is weakened because of operations and so political division between North And South and the geopolitical dial away from the Rule Of Law towards Brute Force and aggression. This matters to us all. In matters to the british people. My government was elected to Change Britain and delivered national missions on higher growth, safer streets, Cleaner Energy and more opportunity and a healthier society. But behind every one of these missions, sits another insight. Something that was once unspoken. But now needs to be said. And our success in britain can never be separated from events beyond our shores. Global challenges rebound on us At Home. And to grapple only with the effects of war, poverty, Climate Change, pandemics or irregular migration, when they arrive on our doorstep is to set ourselves up to fail. And we must work with others to solve these problems. At route. To tackle the causes and britain is stronger than we do so and so we are changing our approach on the global stage too. My Message Today is this. We are returning the uk to responsible global leadership because i think the international system can be better and we needed to be better, people talk about an age of polarisation, impunity, Instability And Unraveling of the Un Charter. And a fear that a sense of fatalism has taken hold but our task is to say no. We will not accept this slide into greater and greater Conflict Instability and injustice. Instead, we will do all we can to change it. This is the moment to reassert fundamental principles and our willingness to defendant, to recommit to the un, to internationalism, the Rule Of Law. To work together for peace, progress and equality. Because it is right, yes, absolutely. But also because it is plainly in our Self Interest and we are ready to step up and in respect an equal partnership and i dont claim that solving these problems is easy but there are positive, practical things that we can do together. This starts with addressing the rise of conflict and preventing a regional war in the Middle East and i call on Israel And Hezbollah to stop the violence, we need to step back from the brink and see an immediate Cease Fire to provide space for diplomatic settlement and we are working with all partners to that end because further escalation serves No One. And it offers nothing. But more suffering for innocent people on all sides. And the prospect of a wider war. That No One can control. With consequences that none of us can foresee. It is intimately linked with the situation in gaza where again, we would need to see an immediate Cease Fire. It shames us all that the suffering in gaza continues to grow and the answer is diplomacy. The release of all the hostages and the unfettered flow of aid to those in need. That is the only way to break this devastating cycle of violence and begin the journey towards a political solution for the long term. For the long promised Palestinian State alongside a safe and secure israel. And we also have to work together for peace in sudan and proper response to the worst humanitarian crisis in the World Today and greater action to deliver aid and to deliver peace. In the world cannot look away and we must stand up for international law and that is why we are so resolute in our support for ukraine. They are exercising their right to Self Defense as provided for under the Un Charter and recognised by Hundred A1 members of this assembly. We will stand with ukraine for as long as it takes because the alternative would be to confirm the worst claims about this place. That international law is merely a Paper Tiger and that aggressors can do what they will. We will never let that happen because it is our duty to respond to a more dangerous world with strength, to keep our people safe but alone, that is not enough. That is not the limit of our responsibility. We must also work together to make the world less dangerous and so, we have to face some hard truths. The institutions of peace are struggling, underfunded, under pressure, and over politcised. The entire framework of Arms Control and Counter Proliferation painstakingly constructed after decades has begun to fall away. Iran continues to expand its nuclear activities in violation of its international commitments. Incredible new technologies like ai are being deployed for Military Use without agreed rules. These are difficult challenges to grip and too urgent to ignore. That is why the impact for the future so important. We must put new Energy And Creativity into Conflict Resolution and conflict prevention. Reverse the trends towards ever greater violence and make the institutions of these fit for Purpose And Hold members to their commitments under the Un Charter. But again, reducing conflict is not the limit of our responsibility. 0ther Global Challenges impact us too and so, we must work to get the sdg back on track. So, Mr President , under my leadership, the uk will lead again, tackling Climate Change At Home and internationally and hosting our commitment to International Development. Like many of you, and a few weeks time, i will be travelling to samoa for the commonwealth heads of government meeting. Where a generation of children are having to contemplate fleeing their island of their birth for good. The threat of Climate Change is existential and it is happening in the here and now. So, we have to reset Britain Plus plus approach. We have lifted the defective ban on onshore Wind And Oil and gas licenses and created great british energy as we become the first major economy to transition to clean power by 2030. And im pleased to tell you that yes, we will meet our net Zero Target and that is backed up by an ambitious at cop 29, consistent with limiting warming to 1. 5 degrees. I will support others to do the same. I know the finances are at the heart of this but the uk will continue to be a leading contributor to international Climate Finance and that includes supporting nature and for us because this is vital for biodiversity and reducing emissions. And it includes funding for climate adaptation because those who did not cause this crisis should not be left to cope with the consequences. In the uk will also continue to be a leading contributor to development, committed to returning to 0. 7 in fiscal circumstances allow. But lets be frank. Public finance will never fully meet the needs and so we must use it as a multiplier to unlock much greater levels of private investing and we have already started this work and i can announce today that we are creating announce today that we are creating a new facility and British International Investment which will work with the City Of London to mobilise billions in Pension And Insurance funds to invest in boosting Development And Fighting Climate Change. This is a great british innovation and if youre going to deliver in each of these areas ive talked about today with all the benefits that it will bring, then this is the kind of approach that we need to take in innovating, thinking differently, moving faster and being ready to change how we do things and three key areas. First, we must change the international financial system to deliver a Fair Dealfor Financial System to deliver a fair deal for developing countries and we will use a receipt On The Boards of the imf and the World Bank to argue for a bolder approach to tackle unsustainable debt which is compounding poverty and inequality. Depriving the sick of Health Care and children of education. We must tackle the barriers to investment which choke off the flow of private finance and we must put a price on the true cost of the missions for a new levy on global shipping. With the proceeds going to tackle Climate Change. And cut emissions even further. So they showed more risk, unlocking hundreds of billion more to help the poorest and build a low carbon global economy. A critical milestone in the fight against poverty is approaching, with the replenishment of the International Development association. This is the chance for everyone to show greater ambition, so the ida can be bigger and better, helping more people, especially those in fragile states and conflict zones. 0n those in fragile states and conflict zones. On that
