Farhan alkadi, a 52 year old bedouin israeli, snatching a Second Chance at life. Crouched on the floor of a military helicopter, after 326 days in captivity, a smile. The start of his journey back home. At israels soroka hospital, his last few moments in hiding. A wall of Israeli Soldiers shielding him from the world he left ten months ago. From a tunnel in gaza to an israeli ambulance in a couple of hours. His family racing the last few metres to greet him. Thin and pale but staff said in a good and stable condition. Translation it is difficult to explain how it feels. It is better than having a newborn. We thank god and we thank everyone and hope to see him healthy. Were very happy, very happy. Israels Prime Minister called to welcome him home, keen to be part of his release. We cannot go into many details of this special operation but i can share that israeli commandos rescued Qaid Farhan Alkadi from an Underground Tunnel following accurate intelligence. The army has described this as a complex operation based on precise intelligence but there are persistent reports here of a more nuanced story, even that Farhan Alkadi May have escaped his captors himself. Tonight, a Senior Military Official confirmed that troops had found him in a tunnel, alone. Last week, israel brought back the bodies of six other hostages. The funeral of one, haim perry, was held in israel today. The joy of one family and the grief of another. A trickle of hostages returning as more than 100 others, and a ceasefire deal, remain stubbornly out of reach. Lucy williamson, bbc news, soroka hospital, southern israel. Prosecutors in the us have filed a revised indictment of donald trump on charges that he tried to overturn the 2020 us election after losing tojoe biden. The new indictment retains the same four charges against trump but takes into account the recent Supreme Court ruling that a former president has broad immunity from criminal prosecution. Our correspondent in washington carl nasman gave me more details on this latest indictment. What we Thinkjack Smith is doing here is trying to revise this case. Make sure that it can be something that can hold up to that Supreme Court ruling that you mentioned. Its changed a bit. So if you want to see the physical results of this, this used to be a 45 page indictment. This is the new one. Its a bit thinner, only 36 pages. So whats missing . Well, whats been taken out here are allegations about former president Donald Trumps official acts in office. Remember that Supreme Court ruling about a month ago or so said that president s, including donald trump, enjoy this broad immunity for things that they do in Office Related to their official acts. So some things have been taken out here. Anything related to Donald Trumps conversations or actions with the us Justice Department. Those could be considered acts as a president. Those are now gone. And when you really read this indictment, it actually is interesting to see that some of this has been recast. The narrative is a bit different here. Jack smith now talking about the fact that donald trump used his private twitter account, for example, it talks about private acts. It talks about political acts, saying that he was discussing and meeting with his political running mates, of course, his Vice President , mike pence at the time. So no longer about his official acts, talking about private acts, talking about political acts. And this is now going to be part of what moves forward. Well see whether or not this is something that will wrap up elections likely wont get started by then. And of course, we all know if donald trump is re elected, its very likely he could just take these charges and tell his Justice Department to wipe them aside and clear the deck altogether. Yeah, well have to see how this one plays out. In the meantime, Vice President Kamala Harris has come in for some flak for not speaking to the news media in america. But that seems about to change. Yeah, thats right. She has scheduled this long awaited sit down interview with cnn. This is expected to be on primetime on thursday. So a bit later this week. Its something that republicans, especially the trump campaign, have been criticising herfor, saying that she hasnt really sat down with the media. She hasnt faced some tough questions since she took over at the top of the ticket with the democrats. Weve seenjd vance, the running mate of donald trump, really kind of counting up every day that goes by. You know, hell add another number to that tally saying that she hasnt faced the media, but, you know, shell get a chance with a running mate to to answer some questions. Weve seen some policy being rolled out here in this Campaign Already talking about tackling what she calls price gouging, trying to tackle the high price of housing in the us. But its been a truncated campaign, hasnt it . Its not been a very long time for Kamala Harris to really get policy out there, to sit down for a lot of interviews. Shes been on the campaign trail. The Democratic National Convention Just wrapped up. So i think a lot of people will be looking forward to this interview to get a sense of maybe a bit more about who she is as a candidate and what she might do as president. Donald trump has announced he has reached an agreement to participate in a september 10 debate with Kamala Harris, noting that the rules will be the same as the last cnn debate, which seemed to work out well for everyone. The rules will largely mirror the terms used by cnn for itsjune debate, including that microphones will be muted as the other candidate speaks and no Studio Audience will be present. Trumps announcement follows a period of negotiations between his and harris campaigns, which had reached a stalemate over specific debate protocols, particularly regarding the muting of microphones when candidates are not speaking. John nichols, Political Writer at the Nation Magazine shared his insight on what the debate means in the race for the white house. It was always a false construct to suggest that debates dont change anything. They always have the potential to change everything. As thejune debate between biden and trump showed, and this debate is a very big deal, it may well be one of the most watched debates in American History because while americans are very familiar with donald trump, Kamala Harris is something of a new entity. Not, you know, unknown. Shes been the Vice President , but this will be the first time that shes been on a full debate stage as the candidate of her party for president of the united states. So its a big deal, and its very likely to attract an immense amount of viewership. Yeah, with so many eyeballs on it, the scrutiny on their performance will be quite extensive. What do you think this debate will hinge on . I think it will hinge on the question of whether Kamala Harris can, in this first debate with donald trump, communicate a message about what she wants to do. This is a real challenge for harris. So far, her campaign has gone very smoothly. Shes been able to present herself as an optimistic positive, even as the convention suggested, a joyful candidate. But in a debate with donald trump, its going to be much more challenging. Trump will be going after her. Theres no doubt of that. And what she has to do is both prosecute donald trump, ie, go after him for things that she thinks hes done wrong, or things that she thinks are negatives on his part, but at the same time, do her best to present a positive image of herself as a potential president of the united states. Its a bit of a tightrope walk, but it is one that harriss aides say shes notjust prepared for, but excited to engage in. And who would you say has more riding on this debate . I think at this point, donald trump does in some senses. And thats because the polling Sincejoe Biden stood down seems to suggest that Kamala Harris is surging. Shes done very well over the last few weeks. If she has a good debate, it is very likely that she locks in her lead. On the other hand, for trump, this is his chance to make a strong comeback, ie to close the gap, perhaps even to reverse fortunes. So hes under a lot of pressure, and theres been a lot of suggestion that he has struggled a bit to figure out how to deal with a new opponent, how to deal with Kamala Harris. And so for him, the challenge is to show that he can do it. The uk Prime Minister sir keir starmer has delivered a major speech in Downing Street vowing to reverse what hes called a Decade Of Decline under the previous conservative government. The pm has warned the budget in october will be painful and asked the country to accept short term pain for the long term good. The tories have dismissed the speech as a performative attempt to distract the public from promises sir keir never had any intention of keeping. Heres a little of what he said. Ill have to turn to the country and make big asks of you as well to accept short term pain for long term good. The difficult trade off for the genuine solution. And i know that after all that you have been through, i know its a really big ask and really difficult to hear. That is not the position we should be in. Its not the position i want to be in, but we have to end the politics of the easy answer that solves nothing. Sir keir starmer is spending the night in berlin ahead of a summit with the german chancellor olaf scholz. He was greeted by the British Ambassador and took a brief tour of the brandenburg gate. On his Agenda Migration and a potential re set of the uks relationship with its former partners in the eu. Our chief Political Correspondent Henry Zeffman sent this update of mr starmer s busy day and what we can expect from him in berlin. For this new government, for this new Prime Minister, their economic inheritance is the Essential Precondition to understanding why they are making decisions, which they concede, mean that some things will get worse before they start to get better. We heard the last conservative government talk about the infamous, there is no money note for 14 years. I wouldnt be surprised to hear labour politicians talking about what they perceive as the conservatives black hole for a similar period of time, and as there is a theme on the economy, so there is a clear theme when it comes to diplomacy. As he landed in berlin for talks with the chancellor, olaf scholz, Just A Little while ago, the Prime Minister talked about wanting to reset relations with europe. Weve heard that before and well hear it again. He also said that he wanted to fix the broken relationships that the uk has with some of the eus main players. Well, no prizes for guessing who he thinks broke those relationships. But on diplomacy, as on the economy, there will come a time where sir keir starmer Will Bejudged on his own decisions. Around the world and across the uk. This is bbc news. The un Secretary General, has told the bbc that The Small Islands in the pacific are facing an enormous environmental injustice. Antonio guterres is in tonga for the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting. His warning came, as the World Meteorological organisation said, the Pacific Islands were facing a Triple Threat of warming waters, a rise in sea levels and growing acidity because of carbon dioxide. A worldwide catastrophe is putting this Pacific Paradise in peril. Global average sea levels are rising at rates unprecedented in the past 3000 years. The reason is clear, Greenhouse Gases overwhelmingly generated by burning fossil fuels are cooking our planet. And the sea is taking the heat, literally. Mr guterres has been meeting with leaders from 18 Pacific Islands, including australia and new zealand. Theyre discussing key decisions on tackling Climate Change in the region, affected by global temperature rises. For more on this, our australia correspondent katy watson joins us now from tonga, where shes been covering the Pacific Island forum summit. Tell us more about what the un report said. There were two reports that basically said the sea level rises are quickening in pace and the people here in the region are facing an ever bigger threat. But what he did do is put the responsibility, squarely on emitters, both countries and companies saying they need to do more. Of the time is now and that, in fact, do more. Of the time is now and that, infact, more do more. Of the time is now and that, in fact, more needs to be done. Yes, you also have got the likes of delegations slightly more on the sidelines, but certainly there is an awful lot of interest in big emitters also saudi arabia here come people who want to invest in the region so there is an awful lot of interest in the region from those who are admitting and the feeling here is very much that much more needs to be done. ~. , much that much more needs to be done. ~. , done. Ahead of mr sullivans arrival, china said it planned to voice its serious concerns over taiwanese independence a red line for beijing. The relationship between the us and china has improved slightly this year following a flurry of diplomatic visits, but many areas of disagreement remain. Its hoped the visit could ease tensions between the superpowers ahead of the us election in november. Ukraine has said its forces are advancing in russias kursk region, taking more territories and russian soliders prisoner. The number of controlled settlements is now a 100 and almost 600 Prisoners Of War have been captured according to the head of ukraines military. Its also warned that the situation on the Eastern Front was difficult with russia transporting more troops and now controlling another village near the strategically important town of pokrovsk. Meanwhile, moscow conducted another missile and drone attack on several regions of ukraine, killing at least seven people. President Volodymyr Zelensky has said newly arrived F I6 Fighterjets provided by the west had been used to shoot down drones. Already in this huge attack of russians, we destroyed already some missiles and drones, using f i6s. I will not share how many but we did it, thanks to partners, that they gave it, gave us f i6s provided to us. But, again, its not enough. We have a small number of f i6s and we need to do wider Training Mission and etc. We have propositions to the united states. It depends on their permission. They have to be positive on it. They have to look at this real real. The kursk region contains a nuclear plant, which isjust 30 miles from the frontline. The site was visited today by the head of the uns Nuclear Watchdog because of anxiety about a nuclear incident. Our russia editor Steve Rosenberg has more on that for rafael grossi, this was urgent. The uns Nuclear Chief had come to inspect a Russian Nuclear plant thats now in a warzone. There is fighting less than 30 miles from here, after the ukrainian incursion into kursk region. Russia claims ukraine tried to attack this facility. The visitor didnt confirm that, but. I was informed about the impact of drones. I was shown some of the remnants of those. This may sound absolute common sense and very simple. Dont attack a Nuclear Power plant. The kursk Nuclear Power plant has no protective dome that would shield it from drone attack or artillery. Its very exposed. And thats very worrying for those next door, who can hear the sounds of war. Sometimes it can be quite loud, lilia says. At first the kids were worried, but i told my daughter, air defences will protect us. Our leadership is to blame, says vladimir. In 2022, we said well destroy the enemy in two days. Instead, they smashed up half of russia. The un is worried, too, by the situation at the zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power plant in russian occupied ukraine. Earlier this month, a fire broke out there in one of the cooling towers. Moscow and kyiv traded accusations over the cause. According to the picture painted by moscow, only one country right now is a threat to nuclear security, and that is ukraine. It is a picture that omits a key detail, this that, in the last two and a half years, only one country has invaded its neighbour and seized a Nuclear Power plant, and that is russia. And, while moscow accuses others of risking a nuclear calamity, it is parading its Nuclear Strength on red square. Our Strategic Nuclear forces are ready for use, reads this new sign a putin quote. And heres another retribution is inevitable. The aggressor will be destroyed. Steve rosenberg, bbc news, moscow. After years of bad blood and barbed comments, one of musics biggest feuds appears to be over with the announcement that Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher are re forming oasis for a series of uk and european concerts next year the first time theyll have played together in public since 2009. Tickets go on sale on saturday in whats expected to be a multi Million Pound pay day for the boys from burnage. Colin patterson reports from manchester. Me and him were, like, telepathic, you know what i mean . I know my brother better than anybody else. This is how oasis announced they were back, the brothers finally confirming a series of huge shows next summer. Always famous for their feuding. We dont like each other, man. Hes swinging this guitar around and he kind of. You know, he nearly took my face off with it. Today s news might help explain why Noel Gallagher had recently been so complimentary about liam. If songs were drinks, right, liams is a shot of tequila, right . And mines half a guinness. Maybe i dont really wanna know. Its exactly 30 years this week since the release of their debut album, definitely maybe. Oasis are being hyped as the best band around at the moment. When they were interviewed by zoe ball, who wore an extraordinary cap. You are being hyped as the best band around at the moment. Is all the hype true . Yeah. It is . Yeah, were the best band about today, on the planet. Its a fact. And, despite splitting up 15 years ago, there a strong argument that they remained the biggest band in britain. Not surprisingly, in manchesters northern quarter, it wasnt hard to find people with opinions on the reunion. When did they make up . How has this happened . Whats your theory . 0h, a money grab. You cant say that i can, its too late, sorry. People are already reserving parking spaces, apparently. And hotels are at £800 already. Everyones over the moon, arent they . Fingers crossed they dont fall out again, you know what i mean . In two minutes. You know what i mean . You know what theyre like, dont you . Eh . And, across the city, there was much excitement at the microdot gallery, a stop on the oasis walking tour. Were very lucky to have the original fireplace from the front cover of definitely maybe. If this can be the catalyst to give people a bit of happiness, you know, who better to drag us out of the doldrums than liam and noel, at the end of the day . This is a posterfor oasiss famous shows at knebworth, and have a look at the ticket price. £22. 50. Its going to be rather more than that when they go on sale on saturday. Its a crazy situation. The band have said they will not be playing glastonbury, there is no word on any new music and no confirmation on which other members of oasis will return. Thanks to those rows, there are plenty of them to choose from. Colin paterson, bbc news, manchester. Thats all for now stay with bbc news. Hello. The weathers looking fairly promising for most of us on wednesday, with some prolonged spells of sunshine, but it wont be dry everywhere. In fact, farfrom it. We are expecting a few showers and in the morning across one or two areas it actually could be pretty wet. Let me show you the big picture. Heres the forecast for wednesday. A couple of Weather Fronts bringing showers into Northern Ireland and western scotland, and this one here also in the north of england, wales and stretching to south western areas. But whether youve got the sunshine or the rain in the morning, its actually going to be quite warm first thing 17 in london, about 15 around merseyside and similar values there for glasgow and edinburgh. So showers reaching Northern Ireland and western scotland. And heres that Weather Front stretching from Northern England through the lakes, into lancashire, wales. Maybe the west midlands, could be some spits and spots further south, too. So for a time some of us will catch some rain here, showers there moving into scotland. And big Temperature Contrasts on wednesday. Eastern england, east anglia and the south east, mid high 20s. Out towards the west, its a lot fresher temperatures of around 18 in belfast and for glasgow. Now this is fresher air thats arriving off the atlantic. In fact, the fresher air will spread right across the country during the course of thursday. So no longer is it going to be so warm in the east and the south east. Temperatures here will be closer to say, around 22 or 3 celsius out in the west around 18 degrees, with that Atlantic Breeze coming in. Just a few showers for scotland. Heres a look at the end of the week. High pressure is building off the atlantic. This azores high. Showers are kept at bay across france, far away. So its a day of light winds and sunny spells. Really a very pleasant day. And for some of us, a perfect summers day. Neither too hot and not particularly cool either. And the temperatures will be around the high teens across western areas, maybe nudging up to 2a in london for the end of the week. So thats friday. How about the weekend . Well, the High Pressure is still with us Weather Fronts are trying to push in, but its a substantial high so its keeping things dry. Maybe the weather going downhill a little bit with a few showers towards the south and towards the west as we head into next week. So heres the outlook, then. Friday and the weekend looking pretty decent for many of us, with spells of sunshine looking quite warm too. And then into september, it does look as though we could catch 1 or 2 showers. Thats it for me. Bye bye. Alibabas big move in hong kong. Well look at what lies ahead for the chinese e commerce giant. Chinese e commerce Giant Alibaba has just upgraded its listing in the city to a primary status matching how its shares are listed in new york. This is expected to help the company attract investments from mainland china. Timing wise this is all happening as alibaba is facing multiple headwinds, including a slowing chinese economy and intense competition from a very crowded e commerce industry. Gary dvorchak from Investment Firm the Blueshirt Group joined me earlier. I think its a fantastic move, and here is what i think is the rationale behind it. When these companies are dual listed, and they are not the only one, there are a number of Chinese Companies that have adr in the us and are traded in hong kong. At the adrs are still the driving force behind their evaluation and as we all know almost all of these companies are having terrible right now. With not
