And a special programme on the oscars at half past one and reaction to the fashion and the moments from the ceremony. Good afternoon. The princess of wales has admitted sometimes editing pictures. It comes after questions about this picture released yesterday of her with her three children. Several News Agencies had withdrawn the photo, over concerns it had been digitally manipulated. In a statement, the princess said like many amateur photographers, i do occasionally experiment with editing. And she apologised for any confusion. Kensington palace says it wont release the original, unedited photograph. Heres helena wilkinson. The photograph of a smiling princess of wales with her three children, which is now at the centre of a royal controversy. It was released to mark mothers day. But some suggest the image has inconsistencies, in particular the alignment in charlottes wrist. In a rare move last night, four major Picture Agencies withdrew the photograph. The Associated Press issued what is knowns a kill notification, it said at closer inspection it appears the source has altered the image. Today, pa media, the uks biggest news agency has also withdrawn the photograph. In the last few hours the princess of wales has responded on social media. She said it is actual lay good photograph in terms of emotion, trying to get three children to smile is difficult. And it is a great photograph from that point of view. Visually. It is when you zoom in and see the technicalities. I think Prince William likes to control the photographs that are going out, because hes determined to stop the paparazzi approach that ruined his mothers life. Hospital for abdominal surgery. Princess catherines surgery, there has been speculation about her health. This photograph was meant to be an informalfamily health. This photograph was meant to be an informal Family Picture and intended to reassure the public, but it appears to have backfired. The princess of wales explanation about the photograph, will it be enough to calm the speculation . So, what made the News Agencies suspicious about the picture in the first place and what were the clues it had been edited in some way . Nick eardly at bbc verify has been investigating. There is always that frenzied speculation about the royals online and there have been a lot of unsubstantiated speculation about the princess of wales health. So this image yesterday was the first time we have seen her officially this year, after that surgery in january. But, a number of people noticed discrepancies in the photograph that are actually obvious. Look at this, princess charlottes sleeve. You can see this bit and this bit doesnt match up. The same is true here, you can see this is the princess of wales zip. It doesnt line up between here and here. And then here is a third example, this hand is a bit blurry. There are other examples too, which are a bit less obvious. But after theseissues are a bit less obvious. But after these issues were widely discussed online, a number of Picture Agencies removed the image. That is not normal and led to that Statement Today from the princess of wales apologising for the confusion caused, saying she experimented with editing. We have spoken to a number of photography experts, a lot before that statement about the issues with this picture. All of them have said it is consistent with amateur editing. Perhaps on an application like photo shop. They say there is no sign of ai being used. So that matches with the explanation from kensington palace. The hope is admitting there were edits will end the debate over this picture. But one final thing that is important, so far we dont have the initial original picture from kensington palace. They have said theyre not going to publish it. So we cant be certain about what changes have been made in the image that we have seen. Thank you. Our correspondent Charlotte Gallagher is at Westminster Abbey this afternoon, where Prince William will be appearing today for a commonwealth event. Charlotte, how embarrassing is all this for the royal family . Id say at best this is embarrassing. The photograph Sparked Thousands Ofjokes and internet memes. Lots of people talking about that. At worst this is a question of trust. And do the public trust what the royal family tell them and show them . If people dont, that is a huge problem for the royals. This has fed into Conspiracy Theories about the health of princess of wales. When the royals released the photograph, they were hoping to reassure about the health of the princess of wales and the situation and what was going on. In fact, its done the opposite. This has been dises a frous for the royal family disastrous for the royal family and questions have been asked about why they allowed this photograph to be relessed when leased when some of edits were obvious. David walsh denies misleading buyers. He says the signs and Sales Agreements make it clear that wyre is a holiday park. The Sales Manager didnt respond. If there are any questions or anything, just give me a ring. Its notjust happening here. There are other Holiday Parks where people have been falsely told they can live full time. I think this is a really big issue because there are so many people that have fallen down this trap. Im not saying ive heard from one or two people that have lost their life savings. Air fryers and Vinyl Record Sales have been recognised by statisticians who calculate the rising Cost Of Living. They are just two items that have returned to the so called basket of goods used by the office for National Statistics to track prices and work out the rate of inflation. But Hand Sanitiser, a must have of the covid years, has now been taken out. Our Cost Of Living correspodnent Colletta Smith joins us from warrington now. Colletta, how are these things calcuated . Well, once a month we report the Inflation Figures, how much prices are going up and down and which particular products that is happening to. The reason we are able to do that is because the uks top stats team has an enormously long list of products that they track each month and once a year they have to update that list and that is what has happened at the moment. They have to make sure it is current and the products are still those people are buying the most of. What we have seen enter the list this year is air fryer is because of the energy crisis, a quick and cheaper way to cook goods than putting the oven on all the time. We are seeing cultural changes, it is notjust my shelves that are heavy with Vinyl Records as current artists are releasing on vinyl as well as people update their back catalogue. We have seen food changes, sunflower seeds, Pumpkin Seeds and gluten free bread making the list for the first time. These are the products that have slipped off the list, the changes since the pandemic. If we look in this basket we are seeing items used for baking, when we were all stuck inside and using these a lot more common now not so much, and of course the Hand Sanitiser that was ubiquitous and everybody was my handbag no longer there. Next week we will hear the latest Inflation Figures and it will be a week beyond that whether we can tell these products have been particularly increasing and by how much then. This is ongoing at the moment and the crux of the matter will be finding out exactly who those 3a people are who have been taken from ear to the mortuary in hull to see exactly what their identity is. Danny savage reporting. The Health Minister in wales during the covid pandemic has said he is embarrassed that his whatsapp messages have been deleted. Vaughan gething, Health Minister until may 2021, says he had tried to recover the messages which were lost after changing phone in 2022. Hes been questioned at the latest hearing of the Covid Inquiry and Hwyel Griffiths has been watching. Hywel, another Government Minister facing questions over how they used whataspp during the pandemic . Yes, absolutely. This is not the first time the inquiry as it goes around the uk trying to scrutinise different decisions made during the pandemic has hit upon the question of missing messages. Vaughan gething was front and centre of the welsh response as Health Minister up until may 2021. The man looking at how the nhs was preparing, the man talking about Infection Control measures in cabinet. However, what he was saying to his colleagues and officials unofficially, there is no record of that. He said he used his whatsapp only really to blow off steam and to keep up morale with colleagues. He said no decisions were made informally in that way, but we have no way of scrutinising that. He says messages were lost injune 2022 when his phone was changed. He had created it with the senate it system but that meant an unfortunate mistake was made. I certainly do regret the fact that all those messages arent available to you because you could see them and satisfy yourself that all of the information there is consistent with all the information in the records you do have in front of you. Its a point of embarrassment and if i had been able to provide all of those records then i dont think this would really be the issue that i understand it is for a number of people. He has also been questioned about how seriously the Welsh Government took this pandemic in the early months before that big, National Lockdown in march 2020. It was less than a month before that it was discussed in cabinet. Vaughan gething says he was taking it seriously. This is a big week for him, he is in the running to become the next leader of welsh labour and the next leader of welsh labour and the next leader of welsh labour and the next First Minister of wales. If he wins the vote, we will find out the result of that on saturday. The mother of murdered teenager brianna ghey, has met a parent of one of her daughters killers. Esther ghey met the mother of 15 year Old Scarlettjenkinson who was jailed for life last month. The two women discussed the dangers of mobile phone use by children and the challenges of parenting. Sally nugent has been speaking to esther ghey. I know that all of these emotions and, like, feelings like hate its only going to impact me. I genuinely dont feel any of those towards scarlett s parents, and. I actually dont feel that towards scarlett, either. Esther ghey talking about one of the teenagers who murdered her daughter. 16 year old brianna was stabbed to death last february. Scarlettjenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe had watched videos of violence and torture online before killing her. Now, just over a year later, esther has metjenkinsons mother. You instigated that meeting, why did you want to meet her . The crime thats been committed has impacted so many other people and, obviously, what theyve gone through is terrible, as well. And theyve lost a child and they havent only lost a child, but theyve also got to live with whats happened now for the rest of their life. Both of us are mothers who are trying to navigate something that nobody should ever have gone through. And i think, for that, i kind of feel. A bit of a connection to her, as well. And how was that meeting . It was emotional. We had a few, like, very personal. We spoke about very personal things, and she was very open with me and she was so respectful, as well. I think that her coming to see me shows a great deal of bravery on her part, as well. Since her daughters death, esther ghey has been campaigning for better Online Safety for children and for mindfulness to be taught to young people in schools. You talk about choosing to make something positive out of the most horrific thing that could possibly happen. If you were able to cooperate or work in some way with scarlettjenkinsons mum, how much do you think you might be able to achieve . I imagine that might be quite a powerful combination. Were working together in a very private way. There is good out there and i think the level of support weve received across the uk, and the kindness that weve received from people as well as scarlett s family, as well, itjust show that there is that hope of unity and for people to be better to one another, as well. Esther is hoping that working with the mother of her daughters killer might help with her campaign to make Society A Safer place for young people. Its a job that goes back centuries, bell ringing. And in yorkshire, one of the uks youngest bellringers has just officially qualified for the role. Her name is alice and shes13 years old and our reporter Heidi Tomlinson has been to see how shes, well, learning the ropes. Trevors going, shes gone. Ringing practice at ripon cathedral. You might not expect to find a Child Holding the ropes but 13 year old Alice Barrett is a fully fledged member of the team. It is definitely more than just, like, pulling a rope, thats what most people think. Its much more complex, both physically and mentally. She has recently become one of the youngest qualified ringers in yorkshire, having spent the last three years in training. I am actually really proud of her. It has taken a long time for her to get from being a very small child to where she is now with the strength and the technique. Just seeing her persevering and carry on all that time and nevergiving up. And it is about 30 up to the bells. Climbing the steep, ancient steps to the belfry is one of alices favourite things to do. Is it exciting to see what you are actually ringing . It is. And, like, the size of them is always really cool to see. Installed almost 100 years ago, the 13 bells at ripon each weigh two thirds of a ton and of course they are dangerously loud close up. When we hear the bells ring, we need to put our ear muffles on. These bells are incredibly loud up here, it is kind ofjet plane volume, 120 decibels up here when the bells are ringing. A majestic sound created by a skilled team. It takes strong arms to handle the bells and a certain height. Standing on a box helps. The younger somebody learns then the quicker they pick up skills, the less afraid they are of the ropes and the bells and the bells ringing and they make progress so much quicker
