212. The Gaza Health Ministry says around 4,400 gazans mainly civilians have been killed since then in israeli air strikes. That include 55 people overnight. Israels military has warned civilians in gaza to keep moving south for their own safety, as it prepares to increase pressure on hamas there. Hamas governs gaza and is labelled a Terrorist Origanisation by the uk, us and other western governments. Meanwhile, overnight the Israeli Defense forces said one of its aircraft targeted a mosque in the palestinian city ofjenin, in the west bank. Israel says the mosque was used by a hamas cell as a base to plan and execute attacks against civilians. The uns humanitarian chief says talks have been taking place to allow a second aid convoy into gaza later after two weeks in which israel stopped supplies of food, water and medicine entering gaza. On saturday, agreement was reached to allow 20 lorries carrying supplies to cross the rafah border from egypt. But as Greg Mackenzie reports aid agencies say so much more is needed. The rafah crossing that connects egypt to the Southern Gaza strip opened yesterday for the First Time Since hamas launched its assault on israel, to allow 20 trucks to carry aid in. Today, the uns humanitarian chief says a second convoy of 20 to 30 trucks could enter the region, delivering much needed aid, but admits the un and israel are having tough but fair discussions about how trucks will be inspected. Meanwhile, israel has confirmed increased attacks in gaza and is urging civilians still in the north to move south. Translation for your own safety, move southward. We will continue to attack in the area of gaza city and increase attacks. We are supervising the humanitarian aid that is entered to unwra from egypt to ensure that the water and medicine are distributed in this humanitarian area we have set. Reporters mr president , mr president asked last night whether he was taking steps to delay an imminent invasion of gaza, mr biden said he was taking to israel. Their duty to respect International Law. Both the us and uk governments are still working to free those american and british citizens still trapped in gaza. 0vernight, israeli aircraft struck a compound beneath a mosque in the occupied west bank that the military said was being used to organise attacks. Greg mckenzie, bbc news. Syria says an israeli airstrike on Damascus Airport has killed at least two people. Syrian state media say the International Airport in aleppo was also hit by israeli missiles. State media say the International Airport in aleppo was also hit by israeli missiles. Flights to and from damascus and aleppo airports were diverted to latakia International Airport, according to the ministry of transportation. Its the second time the airports have been targeted in simultaneous attacks since the conflict between israel and hamas began earlier this month. Military activity is ramping up across the region with warnings of increased bombardment in gaza, heightened tension in the north of israel and reports of israeli airstrikes in syria. Earlier, i wasjoined here injeruslaem by our middle east correspondent yolande knell. If you look at the gaza strip, the situation is we still have tanks and troops massed around the edge. We have seen Israeli Military commanders going around and rallying the troops and giving indications they are getting ready for a Ground Offensive. We had the Israeli Military Chief Of Staff staying to one infantry brigade, we are going into gaza, saying that quite clearly. The chief Military Spokesman talking about the intensification of a Military Bombardment ahead of the next phase to make it Saferfor Bombardment ahead of the next phase to make it safer for israeli troops so we have seen evidence of that going on overnight with Health Ministry officials in the gaza strip controlled of course, the Health Ministry by hamas, more than 55 people have been killed. We know there are hundreds of thousands of palestinians in gaza who have not heeded the israeli Evacuation Order to move to the south from the north of the gaza strip and there has been a fresh warning from the Israeli Military that they should heed the evacuation warning, they should go south, people have been saying they are unwilling to labour they did not feel it would be safe to leave and in the bombardment we saw overnight there are places in the south of gaza strip for the people have been told to move and they have been hit by deadly israeli airstrikes. We are talking about a widening of the conflict and we have seen worrying developments in the past 24 hours especially and if we look to the occupied west bank, territory separate from the gaza strip stopped in the past two weeks 90 palestinians have been killed by Israeli Security forces and by Israeli Security forces and by israeli settlers. 0vernight, there was an Israeli Military strike, error strike in the west bank on the jenin refugee camp, flashpoint for violence, the Israeli Military saying it was targeting in its word a terrorist cell, hamas Planning Fresh Attacks on israel. There were reports from Palestinian Health officials that at least one person was killed and several injured and thatis was killed and several injured and that is ratcheting up tensions. Im that is ratcheting up tensions. Im sorry. Looking at the north of the country we have seen more areas of Northern Israel evacuated with rising concerns that there could be more than the exchange of fire that we have seen in recent days with hezbollah which is armed and trained by iran in Southern Lebanon and linked to israeli airstrikes over the main airports in syria. That has happened in the past, so could you explain . We happened in the past, so could you exlain . ~. , happened in the past, so could you exlain . ~. , explain . We have seen the people civen an explain . We have seen the people given an evacuation explain . We have seen the people given an Evacuation Order explain . We have seen the people given an Evacuation Order close i explain . We have seen the people given an Evacuation Order close to| given an Evacuation Order close to the border with syria and lebanon and dozens of other communities have been told they should leave their homes and head south. This is reflective of the rate that is that hezbollah could get more involved in what is happening despite a lot of International Warnings trying to put pressure on hezbollah not to get more involved. There have been comments from senior figures that they are ready to do so. We have seenin they are ready to do so. We have seen in the past few hours continuing exchanges of fire across the border. And then of course in syria there are Palestinian Militants that are present there and we know that in the past, israel has claimed that there have been weapons transferred to hezbollah through the main airports inside syria. Its not the first time we hear reports that israel has struck those airports. Theres been no comment from the Israeli Military on that but it really raises concerns that there could be new front is opening up in this war. Ii could be new front is opening up in this war. ,. , ~ could be new front is opening up in this war. ,. , ~. , could be new front is opening up in this war. ,. , this war. If we look at israeli civilians being this war. If we look at israeli civilians being moved this war. If we look at israeli | civilians being moved around this war. If we look at israeli civilians being moved around from the south and the north, the Israeli Government says for their safety. We look at the palestinian civilian suffering in the gaza strip, we have talked about the aerial bombardment is that israel has launched, the siege was tightened, no food, water or medicine getting in, 20 trucks allowed in the first convoy yesterday. What news of the un putting on enormous pressure on israel and egypt to allow more convoys to enter . We israel and egypt to allow more convoys to enter . Israel and egypt to allow more convoys to enter . We have had a statement convoys to enter . We have had a statement from convoys to enter . We have had a statement from five convoys to enter . We have had a statement from five un convoys to enter . We have had a statement from five un agenciesj statement from five un agencies basically saying the situation was desperate inside the gaza strip before this recent outbreak of violence. Now they say it is catastrophic and the world must do more. All eyes are on the crossing at rafah because that is not the only crossing controlled by israel but israel says it wants proof that initial aid allowed in, food, medicines and water, no fuel which is a Crucial Point because that would be needed to pump away Sewage Thatis would be needed to pump away sewage that is accumulated, to pump water out for hospitals to be able to run the generators, israel wants to see that none of that aid that has been allowed in is going to benefit hamas it says before it gets approval for more aid to enter. 0ur correspondent Rushdi Abualouf is in the Southern Gazan city of khan yunis, where most of the supplies have been kept in warehouses while they are checked by United Nations aid officials. Earlier, he was at the rafah crossing and told us what he saw at the border. We just left rafah crossing back in khan yunis, the place where most of the like all of the trucks that brought today are now in warehouse for the un, drop in the ocean everybody here is describing this aid, but its hope that open for 2. 3 million people. A window of hope opened today after transferring those 20 trucks that are carrying essential medical kit, including portable Operation Room that should be placed somewhere here in this hospital soon. The meeting in the un, in the un is to make sure two things. One thing is to make the priority for this very small amount of aid. Second is that to make sure that hamas is not involved in distributing or taking any of these. We understand from very early in the morning from a senior hamas source that hamas has agreed to some form of not intervening in this. They say the crossing is open from our side and we are not going to intervene. The un will handle the distribution of the. What they have today, a very small amount of of medicine and food and probably some medical equipment, but very big hope after that. Egypt want sustained sustainable humanitarian corridor to feed those people who need in this area, especially the people in the southern part of gaza city. We are talking about two thirds of the population in this area. We understand that more than 4,500 trucks in the. On the other side of the border in egypt waiting for that meeting to finish and for the mechanism to to be clear. 0nce everybody is happy with the outcome of that meeting and the outcome of the first shipment, i think tomorrow or after tomorrow, its a matter of time we can see more and more goods and food are delivered. But for now we are certain to say that nothing has been distributed. All of the 20 trucks that were loaded back to back on the no mans land between egypt and gaza now in warehouse for day one. We have to say that today was relatively less fighting, less air strike and less hamas rockets into israel. And there is no official ceasefire. We try to ask hamas about it. They said we are not aware of any ceasefire, but we notice after covering two weeks of this war that today is different, today, less fighting today, less fire. Live now to Lieutenant Colonel peter lerner, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense forces. We have heard that 28 trucks allowed in yesterday was a drop in the ocean, there are calls for a humanitarian ceasefire, will israel comply with that . 20 aid trucks. We are fighting against a Terrorist Army that conducted the most critical Pedal Massacre against its release in the history of our country so our efforts continue to be to destroy the hamas capability at the same time as we try to differentiate between the civilian population, noncombatants and the terrorists planning, abducting, conducting attacks and continuing to fight us. I would say, yes, we are trying to find the balance of the humanitarian needs, we are engaging with the International Humanitarian organisations on the ground and we are listening very carefully to what the needs are and of course we acknowledge the huge influx of population from north to south is putting a huge stress on society in Southern Gaza but it would say we need to continue to fight hamas, we need to continue to fight hamas, we need to continue to fight hamas, we need to destroy them and make sure they can never ever be a threat to israel again. They can never ever be a threat to israel again israel again. You had the United States president israel again. You had the United States president here israel again. You had the United States president here in israel again. You had the United States president here in israel l israel again. You had the united i states president here in israel this week and he emphasised that israel should have the right to defend itself following those unprecedented attacks, the massacre on israeli soil but he also pointed out in public to israel not all palestinians belong to hamas and that israel has International Obligations so under International Humanitarian law to protect civilians as much as possible. According to the Gaza Health Ministry 4400 people have died so far in the last two weeks in the gaza strip, the majority of those civilian, a huge proportion of those children because of course you know inside gaza 50 of the population is under the age of 18. How can that be acceptable . Mil under the age of 18. How can that be acceptable . Acceptable . All of that Information Ou have acceptable . All of that information you have just acceptable . All of that information you have just quoted acceptable . All of that information you have just quoted hamas you havejust quoted hamas Propaganda Machine is questionable to begin with. The humanitarian and civilian strife in gaza is of concern to us and i would say its probably more concerning to us than it is to hamas. Hamas are responsible for what is going on in gaza today, they embarked on a work against our people and they will pay the price. We are listening to our friends, we are listening to the United States and the United Nations andindeed United States and the United Nations and indeed we understand and realise that our role is to differentiate between the civilians, the noncombatants and the terrorists that have conducted these atrocities from the mastermind of the massacre all the way down to the individual terrorists that perpetrated the crimes and atrocities against our people. The people of gaza are paying for the failed leadership of hamas, they have their the people of gaza. 0ur hamas, they have their the people of gaza. Our primary responsibility is to insure and secure the people of israel. We cannot live in a situation where we are afraid that someone will come over into our bedrooms and butcher our babies. That is unacceptable and that will not happen. Unfortunately, we need to try and be persistent that hamas can never wield this sort of death against our heads. We know what will happen if we do not destroy and dismantle hamas. We are not willing to raise a white flag to terrorism. We cannot bow our heads to these Terrorist Organisation because if we do they will chop it off. International allies have emphasised over and over again that there is a deep understanding and empathy for the trauma of a thrill, National Trauma and personal trauma that it has suffered two weeks ago, the threat to safety and the right of israel to defend itself but looking at International Law, while there is at International Law, while there is a right to defend yourself there is also an obligation to respect the rules of law, taking care of the civilian population. You say you are listening to the United Nations, they are calling for a humanitarian ceasefire and are saying they Gaza Civilians are suffering disproportionately as aid agencies talk about collective punishment which is illegal under International Law. So would there be a humanitarian corridor at least that israel could guarantee but the civilians that it has sent from other parts of gaza to the south . Irate other parts of gaza to the south . We have other parts of gaza to the south . Have sent people from the north of gaza to the south of gaza to exactly differentiate between them and the terrorists to get them out of harms way and indeed the south of gaza is safer than the north of gaza precisely because of our operations. I would say we need to keep in mind that we operate, we operate on the basis of the laws of Armed Conflict and we are operating within that realm. It is a huge challenge for any military in the world. And what they will be people that will criticise. And wish that we do not conduct the strike and hope that maybe we hope hamas will not do this again this is a reality that cannot be permitted on the one we conduct our operations we are putting huge emphasis on trying to avert the humanitarian crisis that you describe. Unfortunately, israel does not govern the gaza strip, we do not it. It is hamas that governs the gaza strip and they have 20 years. They have been pouring. Building this Terrorist Army. find they have been pouring. Building this Terrorist Army. This Terrorist Army. And yet israel has this Terrorist Army. And yet israel has huge this Terrorist Army. And yet israel has huge control this Terrorist Army. And yet israel has huge control over. This Terrorist Army. And yet i israel has huge control over the gaza strip as we see at the moment because it has sealed its crossings into gaza. The only available entry for these eight tracks into the gaza strip is to be checked. No, you are warm. The old trucks cannot get in without the say so of israel, brokered byjoe biden this week so can you say more trucks will be going into gaza today with aid agency seeing the initial 20 were a drop in the ocean and Water Supplies are desperately needed by civilians . We are listening to the desperation but i can say as well is under no obligation to serve the needs of this terrorist government hamas. They cover the gaza strip. What they cover the gaza strip. What about the civilians . They cover the gaza strip. What about the civilians . Are they cover the gaza strip. What about the civilians . Are you they cover the gaza strip. What. About the civilians . Are you asking hamas that about the civilians . Are you asking hamas that question . About the civilians . Are you asking hamas that question . It about the civilians . Are you asking hamas that question . It is about the civilians . Are you asking hamas that question . It is not about the civilians . Are you asking hamas that question . It is not a i hamas that question . It is not a question you need to ask us. We are fighting this organisation but should and murdered and raped and abducted thousands and hundreds of people. There are 204 people this morning as we speak from the comfort of our studios and offices being held, god knows where, against double and we cannot let this Terrorist Organisation called the people of israel hostage, hold 204 people of israel hostage, hold 204 people hostage and also hold the people hostage and also hold the people of gaza hostage. It has to change. The paragon has to change, the world needs to understand, the International Community needs to support this change as well. Peter, can i ask you support this change as well. Peter, can i ask you are support this change as well. Peter, can i ask you are hostages, support this change as well. Peter, can i ask you are hostages, israel | can i ask you are hostages, israel has updated and increased the figures, two hostages released other day but 212 people were actually taken hostage and taken into the gaza strip. Israel also says it is increasing aerial bombardment in order to prepare for the next phase of its operation which is widely expected to be a Ground Offensive. That is another delicate balancing act for us all. Your desire to destroy her mass, your declared intention, but also the safety of those hostages currently held inside the gaza strip . Those hostages currently held inside the gaza strip . Today we know of 204 eole the gaza strip . Today we know of 204 eo le that the gaza strip . Today we know of 204 people that hamas the gaza strip . Today we know of 204 people that hamas is the gaza strip . Today we know of 204 people that hamas is Holding People that hamas is holding hostage. Theyre still about 100 people unaccounted for so that number can still go up. Families torn to pieces in anxiety and fright for that letter once and indeed they are at the top of our priority is to bring them home as soon as possible in good health. Israel has demanded the International Community and the red cross have access to the hostages and we demand that they be released immediately. Hamas is responsible for the well being but will do everything we can to bring them home safely. Will do everything we can to bring them home safel. ~. Them home safely. Meanwhile everyone looks when the them home safely. Meanwhile everyone looks when the ground them home safely. Meanwhile everyone looks when the Ground Offensive them home safely. Meanwhile everyone looks when the Ground Offensive may i looks when the Ground Offensive may start. Spokesperson for the Israel Defence forces, thank you so much for your time today. The father of the freed american hostage who was seized at gunpoint by hamas, has told the bbc that his daughter is doing well, after being held for nearly two weeks in gaza. ff mother and daughter, judith and natalie raanan, are the first hostages to be freed since hamass deadly attack on southern israel earlier this month. Originally from illinois, they were in israel visiting family. Hamas says they were released for humanitarian reasons. 0ur north america corrrespodent, nomia iqbal, is in chicago where she has been talking to family and neighbours of the released hostages. This is a very Close Community here in evanston, a suburb of chicago. Where natalie and judith are from. Their local rabbi lives here whos been leading prayers, hoping for their safe return. Earlier, i spoke to yuri ranaan, natalies father. He said he had a two minute conversation with his daughter in which she said she was doing well. He said to me she will probably need some time to get over whats happened. But he described her as a tough girl. Now, according to hamas, the mother and daughter were released on humanitarian grounds. We know that the us and the uk have been working with the qatari government to get its citizens out. President biden did Speak Withjudith and natalie on the phone from the oval office. Hey, judith. Hello, President Biden. Im so glad youre home. Well, not home. But im glad youre out. Yuri ranaan did say to me that he hopes that natalie will be back here in chicago next week for her 18th birthday, but that its been really difficult for the community to fully celebrate their return because there are extended members of the ranaan family who are still unaccounted for in gaza. Israel warns it will intensify the attacks on gaza, before an expected Ground Offensive into the palestinian territory. In the occupied west bank, the Israeli Military is said to have struck a hamas cell sheltering in a mosque. The uns humanitarian chief is pessimistic that a second convoy of aid will be allowed Into Gaza On Sunday despite further talks. Ukraine says six postal workers die in a Russian Missile attack on kharkiv. 16 other people were injured. A woman dies in derbyshire. Israel has warned its going to step up its bombardment of the gaza strip ahead of an expected Ground Offensive against hamas. Israels military has warned civilians in gaza to keep moving south for their own safety, as it prepares to increase pressure on hamas there. Hamas governs gaza and is labelled a Terrorist Origanisation by the uk, us and other western governments. Meanwhile overnight the Israeli Defence forces said one of its aircraft targeted a mosque in the palestinain city ofjenin, in the west bank. Israel says the mosque was used by a hamas cell as a base to plan and execute attacks against civilians. Live now to hugh lovett, Senior Research fellow at the European Council on foreign affairs. Thank affairs. You forjoining us. We have spoken thank you forjoining us. We have spoken so much in recent days about deep concern in the International Community about the situation in gaza, the massacre in israel but also the threat of escalating conflict as a result across the region. We hear about the United States, the role of iran, we did not hear much about the European Union . Good morning. The question, where is the European Union . Safe to say the response has been a bit of a mess so We Saw European leaders coming together for once We Saw European leaders coming togetherfor once in a We Saw European leaders coming together for once in a strong show of support for israel and its right to self defence but since then we have started to see these usual splits rematch amongst the Member States. Alternative yes, the eu say they support israels right to self defence but what extent she just wont retaliate against not just wont retaliate against not just hamas but gaza is facing Member States dry to emphasise the need for this response to be proportionate and in line with International Law and in line with International Law and other Member States much more vocalin and other Member States much more vocal in support of an appropriate retaliation and that is on top of institutional divisions amongst leaders of these institutions with the European Commission and the European Council and we saw that play out in washington when President Biden had separate meetings with two president s of the European Union so there is a lot of dissidence at the moment, i am afraid. There was that summit in cairo where leaders were there, representations from countries and the president of the European Council. The Commission Chief was definitely absent. This may sound like semantics, but the eu is a big player in some way, because of the huge amount of aid that it brings to this region, and in fact because of the plight in gaza, it has tripled its unitarian aid for palestinians. It has tripled its unitarian aid for palestinians. Has tripled its unitarian aid for palestinians. , palestinians. It is a big player. It is a big humanitarian palestinians. It is a big player. It is a big humanitarian player, palestinians. It is a big player. It is a big humanitarian player, it. Is a big humanitarian player, it provides supplies and funding for palestinian humanitarian needs and the authority. It does have that. The problem is how can it be a political player, and one of the requirements is for a state to speak with one voice. That is something the eu has struggled to do, but these divisions are becoming more problematic and public. When you see the president of the European Commission being contradicted by her colleague. This really dilutes not just a european message, but your s own potential to really admit to what is happening and to encourage a diplomatic resolution. In what is happening and to encourage a diplomatic resolution. Diplomatic resolution. In parliament this week, echoing diplomatic resolution. In parliament this week, echoing calls diplomatic resolution. In parliament this week, echoing calls for diplomatic resolution. In parliament this week, echoing calls for the this week, echoing calls for the United Nations, seva needs to be a humanitarian ceasefire, that aid needs to get those suffering civilians inside gaza. 0ne needs to get those suffering civilians inside gaza. One thing that does united European Union member state is deep concern about the conflict, possible spreading conflict in the wider region and the impact it can have inside their own countries, adding cases like belgium or france, they say it is already having tragic consequences. It is ruite having tragic consequences. It is quite clear having tragic consequences. It is quite clear from having tragic consequences. It is quite clear from a having tragic consequences. It 3 quite clear from a european perspective, this is notjust about the horrendous events that happened in israel and happening now in gaza. Its about the impact of this conflict on the broader region and the European Unions own interests. This often happens when we see the escalation in gaza, that this conflict is imported back to europe. That emphasises the need for the European Union leaders to step up their own measures. There needs to be a more coherent response to provide one common message to israel, to hamas and regional players on the urgent need for not just restraints, but a ceasefire and de escalation. Just restraints, but a ceasefire and deescalation just restraints, but a ceasefire and deescalation. Deep concerns being exressed deescalation. Deep concerns being expressed inside deescalation. Deep concerns being expressed inside jewish deescalation. Deep concerns being. Expressed inside jewish communities across expressed insidejewish communities across europe, worried they could be targeted and some politicians on the far right seemingly staring at it. Concerning times there. Thank you very much indeed. 0n the bbc, Victoria Derbyshire has spoken to the former is ready prime minister. She asked him what israels current goals were. The objective is for the citizens of israel to be able to return to their homes in the south and to have the hostages released. Thats our goal. And we want to be able to live with the security and peace, the families here in the town of sderot and Tens Of Thousands of other families to know that never again will they be under rockets, terror attacks, etc, from gaza. The implication of that is that we need to demilitarise gaza, and thats the stated goal of the government. 0k. We are we are planning a counteroffensive against this hamas type organisation. So we saw two us hostages released. And i wonder, does a Ground Incursion into gaza make it less likely you will get the rest of the hostages out . Well, theres no option but to eradicate hamas. And if anyone has a better idea how to eradicate the hamas crisis, let me know. Thats what im asking you, is does it make it harder to get the hostages out . The hostages is one of the objectives. The other objective is to eradicate hamas. So this sort of thing can never happen again. We thought that we can contain and live side by side with this hamas state, that was a mistake across the board and were going to fix it. Writing in the British Press this morning, the uk prime minister, rishi sunak, says Palestinian People in gaza are suffering terribly at the moment. 0ur Foreign Secretary says that the 28 trucks that went in to gaza from egypt was a good start. Will more aid be allowed in . Look, the world can come and help the gazans. Thats none of our business. The Israeli Government is allowing that sort of aid in. But my approach is humanitarian. For humanitarian, it has to be reciprocal. And we right now have hundreds of israeli citizens, including five month old babies, held hostage. So if were focused on humanitarian, it has to be reciprocal. Israels former president. Dr Hanan Ashrawi is a veteran palestinian politician whos spent Decades Campainging for palestinian liberation. She told Victoria Derbyshire what she thought about whats been happening in the gaza strip. Absolutely. It is more than catastrophic. There is really a genocide in the making, the people are not just besieged and bombed and homes demolished and more than half of the people, 1. 2 million, are now homeless, displaced and terrified. Theres no water, theres no electricity, theres no food, theres no medicine, no medical supplies and no fuel. So theyre worried that the hospitals will run out of fuel to run the generators. They have about 13,500 injured. And how can they treat them . How can they deal with them . The hospitals have been bombed, schools have been bombed, homes have been bombed and shelled and universities have been bombed. And so its incredible. This is total devastation. Its beyond catastrophe. I dont know what it is. Theres a deliberate attempt at the total destruction of all requirements of normal life. Israel, the Israeli Government would absolutely reject that. As you know, they say they target they are targeting hamas and their military structures. They say they do not target civilians and that they have a right to defend themselves in the wake of the hamas massacre on israeli people. If you call that a massacre, you should see all the massacres that happened to the palestinians. If you use the logic of revenge, then certainly since the creation of the state of israel, we have been subject as palestinians to a series of massacres. What have the actions of hamas meant for the chances of of any resolution to this long Running Conflict . Well, weve tried several times, the plo, the national programme. Everybody tried to have a negotiated settlement and it didnt work because israel insisted on continuing with its occupation. Continued, continued with its land grab. Its home demolitions, its assassinations and killing of people. And thats what really prevented any kind of peace agreement. I wonder if perhaps if all the hostages or the rest of the hostages held in gaza were released immediately and unconditionally, that might help. Now, look, we dont like to see any hostages, any civilian hostages taken. We as palestinians have been held hostage since 1967. 80,000 palestinians have been killed. 1 million have been imprisoned. We consider all our prisoners hostages. She was speaking there to my colleague Victoria Derbyshire. Irate colleague Victoria Derbyshire. We have been hearing there about the humanitarian situation for civilians inside gaza. For more on the aid situation, i spoke to lucia elmi, the unicef special representative for the state of palestine. We had the first delivery yesterday. Together with other un agencys, unwra, who, wfp and unicef, but its a drop in the ocean. We were able to bring in some water, but it is really not sufficient. So we need a sustained, predictable daily influx of humanitarian aid to be delivered to all children wherever they are. As you said, there are so many children suffering the siege and the aerial bombardment in gaza. 50 of the population under the age of 18 there and were told 50,000 pregnant women. Thats correct. There is over1 million of children in gaza. Were very concerned about the situation. We have a team on the ground who has continued to support the communities and trying to deliver so much needed support that they need in humanitarian aid. We have a report from the hospital in the north that they cannot simply move. They receive the orders to move, but hospital cannot move. And we have a report of our colleagues and the Health Workers that had hundreds of children in the incubators where we have been working until a few weeks ago. They can simply not move. Children are in a terrible risk. There is no more electricity. They need to be to be protected. So absolutely water is electricity is food is medicine. But first and foremost, children needs protection and the hostility needs to pause and the hostility needs to end. And humanitarian. International humanitarian law needs to be respected by all parties. She was talking about the humanitarian suffering on the grounds. Thats it from me for the time being injerusalem. Back to Gareth Barlow in the studio in london. The governor of Ukraines Kharkiv region says six people have died in a Russian Missile strike on a postal distribution centre. More than a dozen people were injured. 0ur correspondent in kyiv, jenny hill, updated us on the situation. The regional Authorities Say that there were more than 20 people working at the postal facility when a Missile Struckjust before 10. 30 last night. The dead have been taken away. They say the wounded are now being treated in hospital. The Authorities Say that the victims were aged between the ages of 19 and 42. Weve not yet heard anything from russia. The authorities in kharkiv say this was an sse 300 missile and the ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky, has condemned the attack on what he says was an ordinary civilian facility. Of course, russia has repeatedly denied deliberately targeting civilians, but that is exactly what the authorities in kharkiv are saying theyve done overnight. And more widely, jenny, were hearing reports that ukraines air Defence Systems have destroyed russian launched drones and Russian Missiles. This is according to ukraines airforce. What is the broader status of the conflict and that Counter Offensive on the ukrainian side . Yeah, youre quite right. 0vernight, the Ukrainian Airforce Have said that russia launched nine Cruise Missiles at ukraine. They say they were able, with their air defences to destroy one of those Cruise Missiles as well as six attack drones. More broadly speaking, particularly in the kharkiv region, people are well used to being under constant attack by russian forces. If you look back at this month alone in the region, in the city itself, a small boy and his grandmother were killed in an attack on a block of flats in recent days. Shortly before that, more than 50 people were killed in a strike on a Grocery Store and cafe. People here constantly feel the pressure and the counteroffensive, as you say, is ongoing, but it is making very slow progress. Territorial gains have been very limited, although we did actually have some exchanges with some front line troops who told us that just in the last couple of days, a bit further down in the south, they were managing to get across the dnipro river into russian occupied territory and establish a foothold there. Now, that might not sound like very much. And when you considerjust how vast this front line is, perhaps it doesnt sound terribly significant. But ukrainian troops are doing their very best to fight back in. What they told us are extremely challenging circumstances. A woman awoman in a woman in her 80s has died. We are absolutely fuming, weve been let down and we need answers tributes have been paid to bobby charlton. He played almost all his career with manchester united, who said he was a giant of the game it admired for his sportsmanship. Commentator maybe a shot from charlton. I its worth trying. A great goal scorer and the scorer of great goals. Charlton transcended generations and even football itself. His fellow world cup winner, geoff hurst, described him as a great colleague and friend. He will be missed by all of the country beyond sport alone. A true gentleman, said david beckham, a national hero. It isntjust a sad day for football, but Everything Bobby represented. He was a player who won all there was to win, but he wasnt defined by his success. His legacy on the game in this country is is enormous. But what hell always have, i think, is the love and affection of all the people, even the youngsters. Now everyones heard of bobby charlton. The affection no more fond than at old trafford, where this morning a book of condolence will open to pay tribute, where his impact will be forever felt, where his memory will live on. Even for those too young to have seen him play properfun. Through my grandad, my dad, greatest player to ever lived. Hes done so much for the club over the years. Hesjust been there for us for all the time. He just comes to every game. Yeah. Im sorry. Im speechless. To me, hes just a symbol of everything united stand for. England manager Gareth Southgate said the privilege of meeting him allowed me to understand the personal pride and emotion in having represented england and simply confirmed in my mind his standing as one of the gentlemen of the game. A sentiment echoed by a former england captain. When you consider what hes achieved in the game. He was a giant of our game, world cups and won the lot and if there was anyone that could have been arrogant it could have been him. But he certainly wasnt any of that. He was so nice and humble and kind. What he was a few that have come since have been able to replicate or surpass, his name, will be forever engraved in this game. His memory will not be forgotten.
