And theres just theyve just been theres been a lot of tourists that have been very insensitive to the fact that so many of our loved ones have died and we havent even been able to find everyone yet. To japan were typhoon is exposed to head imminently, causing heavy flooding and widespread damage to infrastructure. Authorities are warning of possible mudslides and flooding. Hundreds of flights and Train Services have been suspended. Our reporter, je seung lee, has more. Japans Meteorological Agency says typhoon lan is likely to bring up to 400 millimetres of heavy rainfall in some areas from tuesday to wednesday, as well as ferocious winds of up to 180 kilometres per hour. Now thats Strong Enough to topple a moving truck. These forecasts have led to authorities warning of floods and landslides, as well as rivers swelling up. Major cities injapans central region, as you can see in this map, Including Osaka and nagoya, are being impacted by the storm. And the typhoon is expected to make its way north off the coast of hokkaido island. Now, hundreds of flights and Train Services have been cancelled on tuesday, as well as Universal Studios japan, the major theme park in the city of osaka, as you can see in this map, has been closed for safety reasons. Now, the storm, which is expected to slightly weaken as it approaches japan, comes as thousands of japanese people celebrate bon festival, which is a major holiday injapan, where people commemorate their ancestors and when millions across the Country Travel back home to see their families and spend time with them. So these Travel Disruptions are likely to be a major inconvenience to thousands of people across japan. Now, this is the second storm to hitjapan in recent weeks. Thousands of Police Officers serving in Northern Ireland including their surnames and places of work have fallen into the hands of dissident republican groups who do not support the peace process. The Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed this, saying after last weekss data breach in which details on more than 10,000 employees were mistakenly released online. Sara coburn has the full report. When news of the psni data breach broke six days ago, the forces Chief Constable said he was aware of claims from dissident republican paramilitaries that they had access to it. Today he confirmed the information was in their hands. We are now confident that the Workforce Data set is in the hands of dissident republicans and it is there for our Planning Assumption that they will use this list to generate fear and uncertainty as well as intimidating or targeting officers and staff. The reason why this is so concerning for thousands of people is that every Police Officer in Northern Ireland is a target for violent dissident republican paramilitaries who are against the peace process. The last attack was just a few months ago, when senior detective John Caldwell was shot and seriously injured. After that, the Terror Threat level in Northern Ireland was raised to severe. That is the highest in the uk. And it is in that climate that Police Officers here work every day. Speaking anonymously to the bbc, this psni support worker described the impact of the data leak on his life. It has brought on a level of panic that hasnt been around for a lot of years. It has given my partner issues as well. She is concerned and is extremely panicked about me going to work. Earlier today, sinn fein said extracts of the leaked information were posted on a wall outside a party office in belfast before being removed by staff. Their Policing Spokesperson said he believes dissident republicans were behind that action in a bid to prove they have the information. Police are investigating those claims. The police rightly said that there was a claim that they had this information. I think this is, whoever is involved in this, it is their motive to say, actually, we do have this, and to up the ante in terms of trying to intimidate Police Officers and their staff. We now know that half of Northern Irelands Police Officers have inquired through the Police Federation that represents rank and file officers about potential damages. With more than 10,000 people involved, a Potential Compensation Bill could run into tens of millions of pounds. Today, the federation urged all Police Officers and staff to exercise maximum vigilance. Big changes are pinpointed for changes to nhs cancer scares but people say that more is needed. Two very different Cancer Stories in the same household. Fiona was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in april and she has had surgery and started radiotherapy. But while her husband simon was told he had skin cancer last october, he still hasnt started treatment. I feel grateful that i have had my surgery and im getting through the other side of the cancer journey, but i have a husband who has a lesion on his back that is massive, that has heard nothing. Its like a two tier system. Theres no equality. I have been given leaflets, letters from appointments summarising what we have discussed. Simon hasnt had anything since we have seen the dermatologist a year ago. It might not work for simon, but the plan to streamline waiting time targets is designed to help patients through their personal journeys. Reducing the standards from nine to three, i think, will make things easier to understand for patients and will make the Service Focus on what is more meaningful for patients, so whether or not they have cancer, whether it will be treated in time, and how long the nhs is taking to do that whole process. But in the Bigger Picture, fundamentally, these changes in waiting time targets will not change waiting times on their own. Some Cancer Campaigners say the Bigger Picture is the need to find more resources and develop a new strategy to improve treatment. Everyone wants simpler targets, that will be easier for patients to understand, but the problem is, we are in the worst Cancer Crisis of my lifetime and simply changing targets wont cure patients. We need to treat them faster and quicker. One of the key targets to be maintained is the 62 day standard for starting Cancer Treatment after a referral. More than four in ten patients didnt begin their treatment within that time according to the latest figures, well short of the target. The labour leader keir starmer said the government was moving the goalposts with changes to targets. Ministers said the plan had been put forward by nhs and medical leaders and wasnt something being imposed by the government. It has been a confusing day in the us State Of Georgia. A court in Fulton County is looking into election interference and another indictment against former president donald trump. According to reuters, a Charging Document was posted on the Courts Website and then quickly soon after, the da office said that those reports were inaccurate. So it is still unclear what has happened. The da was expected to ask the grand jury to charge mr trump over efforts. Mrtrump grand jury to charge mr trump over efforts. Mr trump denies any wrongdoing. Sarah smith reports. That is what all the signs are, fresh charges laid against donald trump very soon now and that will be the fourth criminal indictment against the former president. There was briefly a flurry of excitement here a few hours ago when it looked like the charges had appeared on the Court Website it turned out that that was really fake news. So we do not know exactly what he is likely to be accused of but it will relate to Election Fraud and attempts to overturn the result of the president ial election here in the State Of Georgia because this is where mr trump and his allies concentrated a huge amount of their effort after the election claiming, falsely, that hundreds of thousands of fake ballads had been counted in favour ofjoe biden and this is where donald trump phoned a senior election official and asked him to find just enough votes to tip state in his favour. You will remember it was less than a fortnight ago the donald trump appeared in Court In Washington on totally separate charges of Election Fraud and he is, of course, still facing prosecution in florida over retention of classified documents and in new york over hush money payments. So there are a lot of court cases stacking up for him that he is as defiant as ever and on social media he said today that he did not tamper with Election Results here in georgia. The people who tampered with them with the ones who rigged the election, that is what he is claiming. You can go to the bbc website for more, we have a live page with the latest developments. These days, it may seem as though we are constantly being flooded by an endless avalanche of bad news. Well, we feel it here as well in this newsroom as well, which is why this week, we are rolling out a series looking at something a little more positive. Well be chatting with everyday people who are tackling big problems they have seen in their various communities. And today, we have Christina Dean Founder and board chair of re dress. She is on a mission to move the world towards a circularFashion Industry so that we dont pollute the earth with the clothes that we manufacture, buy and wear. I started re dress 16 years ago off the back of being a journalist in writing and research about the Textile Industrys huge negative impact on the planet and also on Public Health. Prior to being a journalist i was a Practising Dentist with a very deep and committed passion to the Public Health so it was passionate research into the Textile Industry and understanding its effects on the environment and peoples Public Health that prompted me to dig deep and start a nonprofit working to raise awareness and solve some of fashions crisis on the environment. What are some big offenders . Ive seen a lot of boxes to recycle clothes in big stores now but what is the Biggest Issue to the environment when it comes to the Fashion Industry . The main problem with the Fashion Industry is overconsumption. Over the last 20 odd years we have seen a massive increase in Fashion Consumption. So much so that today, we are producing and selling over 100 billion garments every year which is a 50 increase since 2006. The problem with Fashion Consumption is that when you consume, you have to produce. As you produce, you inevitably have to create a negative environmental impacts on co2, water pollution, chemical us and land use and specifically waste. It is shocking that around 70 of the clothes that are produced every year will end up in landfill or incineration. The main problems that we have witnessed over the last 20 years are really due to overconsumption and the lack of recycling to put these materials that have been wasted back to use. In terms of recycled clothes, like many things with green energy, is it costly to recycle these clothes and make them into new ones . Or do people really want to buy recycled clothes . Has there been any movement or education to teach people about the different ways they can consume . In terms of Clothing Recycling it is absolutely packed with complexity and in essence the complexity boils down to the Fibre Composition of our clothes because we are covered by a mixture of natural and synthetic fibres so in the waste stream these different fibre types are very difficult to separate. So Clothing Recycling is terribly difficult. From a technological perspective and a Recycling Perspective also from a collection and sourcing and etc. So very complicated. The story now of a lucky escape for 13 year old boy who survived after slipping and falling nearly 100 feet at the grand canyon in arizona. It took rescue crews two hours to pull him to safety, and he was airlifted to hospital in las vegas. Wyre davies has the details. Incredible that this teen is alive to tell the story, just 13 years old, on Summer Vacation with his mom. It was Headline News across the us networks, including abcs good morning america. The boy who survived nine broken vertebrae, a ruptured spleen, a broken hand and a collapsed lung. 13 year old Wyatt Kauffman fell from one of the most popular parts of the grand canyon, bright angel point, an easily accessible but dangerously exposed part of the trail. Taking pictures on my cellphone on my camera and then i went all the way up to the very top of the point. And its flat out there and you can see the entire canyon. Another tourist wanted to take a picture. The teenager stepped to one side, and lost his balance. Once they were getting up and they were done with the picture, and i kind of stood up, i lost my grip, and thats when i started to fall back. Iwas, like, inches away from death. It only takes one moment of inattentiveness or one slip to potentially fall several hundred feet. Unable to reach the area by helicopter, and unaware of the extent of wyatts injuries, the parks Search And Rescue team set up an elaborate abseil or rappel system to bring him to safety. The grand canyon is one of americas most popular destinations, visited recently by president biden, but it can also be unforgiving. Around 12 people lose their lives here every year. Wyatt kauffman was lucky. He fell into the abyss, but lived to tell the tale. Wyre davies, bbc news, washington. A recap of our top story. We just learned that officials in the United States said the death toll in hawaii is up to 99 people. Stay with the bbc because we will have the latest within a day from officials in hawaii in about one hour. Thank you forjoining us on the programme. If you want to keep up programme. Morning cloud gradually broke up and infact, newquay, cornwall, it was warm enough to venture out to the beach into the afternoon. It was a different story across parts of north wales and northern england. In fact, we saw over two inches of rain, 60 millimetres of rain in some places and it was a pretty dismal day. Now that low pressure is gradually drifting its way eastwards off into the north sea, allowing this ridge of High Pressure to build. So a much quieter start to the story for tuesday. There will be some sunny spells as we go through the day. A few scattered showers will tend to develop particularly heavy ones across parts of Southern Scotland and north east england, maybe with the odd rumble of thunder. But certainly with more sunshine and lighter winds, it will feel a little warmer. Top temperatures possibly as high as 24 degrees, 75 fahrenheit. Now, as we go through tuesday evening, well continue to see some clearing skies, some patchy mist and fog will form. Some of it dense in places and quite stubborn to lift away. It will be a relatively mild start to wednesday morning, with temperatures widely into the low to mid teens. High pressure is going to build as we go through the day on wednesday. So once weve got rid of those misty, murky conditions, first thing in the morning, a few scattered showers perhaps across scotland and northeast england, but on the whole, dry, settled and sunny foremost and a little warmer as well. We could see temperatures peaking at 25 celsius. Thats 77 fahrenheit. Warmer still as we go into thursday, a lot of dry, settled, sunny weather once again across england and wales. Some patchy coastal mist and murk may be lingering in the far south west, but temperatures could peak once again widely into the mid 20s. Maybe one or two spots in the south east could see temperatures into the high 20s. And thats because were going to continue to tap into some warmth thats coming up from the near continent, not the extreme heat that they have been seeing, but certainly as we head towards friday, well see an increasing spell of heat and humidity. But at the same time, it comes with a caveat as this weather front pushes in from the west on friday, it could trigger off some sharp and thundery downpours as it continues to track its way steadily east.
