Borisjohnson says leaving the eu with no trade deal would still be a good outcome as he proposes changes to what was ratified in the withdrawal agreement. And eastenders is back on our screens for the First Time Since lockdown with body doubles, social distancing and perspex screens. And coming up in sport on bbc news, the footballers sent home for breaking quarantine rules. Mason greenwood and phil foden are told to leave englands training camp. Good evening and welcome to the bbc news at six. For the second day in a row, the number of daily Coronavirus Infections in the uk remains at a level not seen since may. The majority of new infections appear to be among young people. In a blunt warning the health secretary, matt hancock, has warned them dont kill granny and urges them to continue to follow social distancing rules. The latest government figures show there were 2,948 new confirmed coronavirus cases reported across the uk in the latest 24 hour period, slightly lower than yesterday but still far higher than recent months. That means the average number of new cases reported per day in the last week was 2,032. Three deaths were also reported of people whod died within 28 days of a positive covid 19 test. That means on average in the past week, eight deaths were announced every day. That takes the total number across the uk, to 41,554. Our Health Editor hugh pym reports. With uk cases rising significantly over the weekend, more communities are dealing with concerns about covid like the Council District of hertsmere, which includes some of londons affluent commuter belt. A local school sent some pupils home today after positive cases were identified. Hertsmere has moved into the top ten hotspots after a sharp rise in virus infections. A majorfactor according to Health Officials is more cases amongst younger adults. Today i asked some local people for their views on that. I think everyones forgotten about it but are just carrying on like normal because all the shops are open and stop so nobody cares as much as when full lockdown was on. These two students said people needed to behave more responsibly. They should just not be gathering up in the evenings and having small parties because just because theyre not really thinking. Realistically it does spread to your family. It can affect more Vulnerable People so, yeah, i think it is quite worrying that its spreading a lot here. Some young adults have told the bbc they feel they are being blamed unfairly for the spread of the virus. Its very important we dont stigmatise any group of any age and of any background. The Council Leader argued it wasnt about blame but highlighting the data. It is coming from groups of younger people, 17 to 19, that have been getting together in a social way, perhaps not socially distancing in the way they should have done and they are passing it amongst themselves and the knock on effect to our communities can be very worrying. Figures for england show the virus has spread more quickly among younger people. Early in augustjust over 21 of new coronavirus cases were in their 20s. The following week that went up to 25 . The week after, it was 29 and it stayed at about that same level. We must, as a society, all follow the social distancing rules in order to protect ourselves, protect our friends and family and protect the Wider Community from the spread of the disease. Absolutely the numbers have been going up and we have seen in other countries where this leads and it is not a good place. Hes pointed to the example of france, where case numbers have risen steeply since early august. That was followed by higher numbers of hospital patients with the virus. The uk government is warning that could happen here. Up to 300 people who were at a Charity Football match at this club in County Durham at the end of august have been asked to self isolate. 28 people at the event tested positive. The club acknowledged precautions werent strict enough. A reminder of the constant threat of the virus. Hugh pym, bbc news. In the past half an hour scotlands first minister has announced a widening of the restrictions already in place in the Greater Glasgow area. Lorna gordon is in glasgow. Tell us more. There are rising numbers of people testing positive for the virus here in scotland and it is being driven heavily by the situation here in glasgow and surrounding areas. Within the last few minutes, Nicola Sturgeon said those restrictions would be widened to two further areas, renfrewshire and east dunbartonshire. People living in those areas will from midnight tonight join People Living in those areas will from midnight tonightjoin People Living in east renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire and glasgow city in being told they cannot meet socially in other peoples homes, although they can still meet in pubs and restau ra nts a nd they can still meet in pubs and restaurants and outside. It means about a fifth of scotlands population are now facing restrictions. Nicola sturgeon said the new measures were regrettable, but if the government acted quickly it might be possible to stem the rise in transmission. The government has added several greek islands to the list of countries from which you have to self isolate on return to england starting from wednesday. Following criticism from the tourism and airline industries, the transport secretary will lift blanket quarantine travel restrictions for entire countries and will instead allow different restrictions for islands where there are Different Levels of coronavirus to the mainland. So greece remains exempt but some of its islands now arent. Wales introduced similar restrictions last week, if travelling from scotland the whole of greece is on the quarantine list. Heres our transport correspondent tom burridge. The travel quarantine for people arriving into the uk has, for weeks, been a blanket affair entire countries either on the list or not. But now, as the Summer Season draws to a close, the uk government says in certain cases, it will apply the quarantine on a regional basis, but only when islands are involved. For the first time, we have the data and the capacity to add and remove specific islands from quarantine, while still providing maximum protection to the uk public. The Welsh Government made a similar move last week, when it put only zakynthos and five other islands on its quarantine list but not the rest of greece. Now anyone arriving into these seven greek islands into england will also have to self isolate for two weeks. The quarantine applies to the whole of greece if you live in scotland. For now, no change for the ca nary islands, but the infection rate is significantly lower there then in mainland spain, so hope for ben, whos on a holiday booked in tenerife. Its great to hear this news today. Fantastic that theyre considering it. But obviously, we dont know where we stand, we dont know that tenerife will go on that list. We dont know that the infection rate will stay low enough so we can definitely go away. So, its good but still, we have to wait and see whether it remains on the list at the end of next month. But the biggest names in travel are not impressed. Theyve been asking for a regional quarantine approach for months. This is too little and its too late. And we just see the majority of the peak Summer Season hasjust gone by. And i think now, the uk government needs to understand that the gravity of the situation is of such magnitude that they need to present a plan for the whole of the uk aviation, because it simply wont be there in the way that people have come to expect, in terms of choices and competition. The uk government says the quarantines been vital throughout the Holiday Season to protect people at home, but its been messy and has ruined precious trips abroad. Tom burridge, bbc news.
