There are fears heading the ball helped cause his disease. Like some of his former team mates, he had been suffering from alzheimers. In the last few years he had withdrawn from public appearances and alzheimers robbed him of many of his memories, but he remain one of only two english men to know the joy of scoring in a world cup final. The emotion was like being struck by lightning. It was unbelievable with everybody jumping all over you, it was fantastic. You know martin, well, he lived locally as such. What was he like as a person. The best description, he was very humble. He would talk about you know players and you know some publicity, he wasnt like that. He was very quiet. He was a humble individual. Yes, they enjoyed the world cup and whatever, but it was probably to be honest only as each decade went by and england could never repeat it that the enormity of that team grew.
