To qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Good morning and welcome to the bbc news at 9. Party leaders are preparing to make a final attempt to win the backing of undecided voters on the last day of campaigning ahead of the general election. With 2a hours to go until polls open, in what both borisjohnson and Jeremy Corbyn have described as the most important election for a generation, politicians will appear at rallies in target seats across the uk, to make last ditch bids for support. Our correspondent alex forsyth is on the campaign trail with the Prime Minister. He is the first of those political leaders off the blocks this morning. I think hes already been taking pa rt i think hes already been taking part in one event. Tell us what hes been saying. Yes, theres always a Frenetic Energy to the final day of an Election Campaign and i think this one more than most and mixed in with that as a healthy dose of tension because this still feels very much like an election where its all still to play for in the final 2a hours and the outcome is farfrom certain, so weve final 2a hours and the outcome is far from certain, so weve seen the Prime Minister up and about very early this morning, starting his day in west yorkshire, where he was delivering milk to a family who asked him why he was up so early, in fa ct. Asked him why he was up so early, in fact. There is one pretty clear reason for that. Hes trying to get as many people behind him as possible in the last 2a hours. We are heading out to derbyshire before we go to south wales and then back into england. In essex and london, so into england. In essex and london, so its going to be a full day on the trail and the key message from the trail and the key message from the Prime Minister is the one we have heard time and time again throughout this campaign. He wants to keep the focus on his brexit pledge, his brexit promise. He will continue to target leave supporting areas, hoping he can win those voters around to his cause and he continues to warn about what he sees as the risk of a Jeremy Corbyn led government. The Prime Minister was asked how he was feeling in those final hours and this is what Boris Johnson had to say. There is a real risk again of a Hung Parliament which i think would be absolutely disastrous, economically disastrous, politically disastrous. Two more referendums, one on scotland and one on the european union. We cant afford more drift and dither and delay. I hope people will go for a one nation conservative government tomorrow and take the country forward. Thats what i want. We will return to politics of the moment but first lets go to the hague, where unsung sushi is speaking at the moment. This is day two of the International Court of justice brought by the gambia, accusing her of crimes under the convention on genocide. Lets listen. Approximately 400 fighters of the raw hunger Salvation Army launched simultaneous attacks on police posts rohinga. Near the border of bangladesh. The attacks led to the deaths of nine release officers, more than 100 dead of civilians and the theft of 68 guns and more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition. This was the start of an internal Armed Conflict between us and my arm across Defence Services which last until late 2017. The propositions contained in the application actively concerned in this conflict. In the months following the 9th of october 2016 attacks, it grew in strength. It resulted in threats and intimidation against local villagers in order to gain support and allegiance, executing suspected informers. According to, among others, the International Crisis group, weapons and explosives training was received in afghan and pakistan. In the Early Morning of 25th of august 2017, several thousand fighters launched a coordinated attack on more than 30 police posts and villages and an army base. Most of the attacks took place on a narrow plane framed by densely forested hills to the east and the border of bangladesh to the west. Indications are that objectives were to seize the township nearby. I urge the court to consider the historical significance of this place. When it was made separate in 1937 by the british, the border between burma and india was drawn along the river where we find todays border between bangladesh and myron ma. Myanmar. The historical kingdom had extended to the north than the river, including most of what is today the bangladesh northern district. Members of this Community Felt that the border drawn by the british was too far south. 0thers by the british was too far south. Others that it was too far north. Myanmar is never challenged this border since independence in 1948. Britain did not lose control over what is today the township during world war ii. From september 1942, a number of local muslim families offered fighters to the british irregular setup to collect intelligence initially absorb any japanese advance. Many muslims gave their lives in combat against the japanese. The sacrifices made by muslim fighters motivated a call for the creation of an autonomous muslim space centred on a myanmar. Whether 01 space centred on a myanmar. Whether or not this was encouraged by british officers, britain rejected this call as soon as it had reoccupied burma before independence in 1948. The muslim buddhists entered communal violence in 1942, recurring in 1948 and several times after that. This cycle of violence has negatively affected life here making it the second poorest state in myanmar. Mr president , and members of the court, may i go back to the situation on the morning of 20th of august 2017 . More than 30 Police Station and villages and one military base had been attacked before sunrise in a highly coordinated fashion by an organised armed Group Operating along a densely forested hill range that provides ample opportunities for hiding. Many of the fighters had been recruited from local villagers in the weeks and months preceding the attack. Myanmars Defence Services responded to the attacks of the fighters by the use of ground forces. They were armed and incidence in more than 60 locations. The main clashes occurred in 12 places. Mr president , please allow me to clarify the use of the term clea ra nce clarify the use of the term clearance operation. Its meaning has been distorted. As early as the 19505, been distorted. As early as the 1950s, this term has been used during military operations against the burma communist party. Since then, the military has used this expression in counterinsurgency and Counterterrorism Operations after attacks by insurgents or terrorists. In the myanmar language, it literally means clearing of locality. Simply meaning to clear an area of insurgents or terrorists. It is still not easy to establish clear patterns of events in these 12 locations. Many fighters died. There may have been several hundred casualties in some of the 12 locations. There was some intercommunal violence, buddhist communities feared for their lives and many fled. It may be worth noting that the use of air power in military operations was avoided as far as possible. Studio watching the leader Aung San Suu Kyi speaking there at the International Court for justice at the hague, pretty much 28 years since she accepted the Nobel Peace Prize while under house arrest. Today defending the state, the army that capture under house arrest for so many years, against allegations that myanmar committed genocide against the minority Rohinga Muslim group in the country. Day two of that three day hearing at the hague, we will talk to an International Lawyer about the proceedings very shortly. But now lets return to our main story today, of course, just 24 hours to go until polls open. A little less, in fact. The leaders of all the main critical parties are of course out on a busy day ahead trying to persuade remaining undecided voters to vote for them. 0ur assistant Political Editor norman smith is in westminsterfor us. Weve already heard from the Prime Minister this morning. Tell us about other leaders in what they are doing and saying today, norman. Jeremy corbyn, like Boris Johnson, and saying today, norman. Jeremy corbyn, like borisjohnson, is doing a mad journey around constituencies, starting today in scotland, and then winds its way through five constituencies, back to london this evening and his message is now was a moment for real change. We have arrived at a fork in the road, where people can make a choice for a very different sort of country and he is promising radical change with, as we know, plans to nationalise some Key Industries and to give a much greater role for the state. Looking at the campaign, labour know they are behind. They had a difficult day yesterday with john ashworth, however, they do not believe it is mission impossible. They look at the last election, whenJeremy Corbyn slowly, slowly, seems to be picking up slowly, slowly, seems to be picking up ground in the last few days of the campaign and they believe that is happening again, that Boris Johnson has begun to lose a bit of momentum. Questions of trust have begun to creep more into this campaign. People not convinced that borisjohnson is absolutely trustworthy and, above all, they believe there is an appetite out there for radical change, so this morning we heard from the shadow chancellor, john mcdonnell, saying that there was still a prospect of a labour government. There no doubt about it, and a numberof there no doubt about it, and a number of constituencies, its tough but its interesting because at the beginning of this campaign, like 2017, it was almost as though the commentators and media were saying the labour party was going to be wiped out and youve seen the trend. I dont always believe in polls but ido i dont always believe in polls but i do look at the trend of the trend has been towards us, and we saw last night with a margin of error is now about ensuring that Boris Johnson isnt in government, and i think we are in striking distance of a labour government. The lib dems of course still sticking to that core message that if you want to stop brexit, then vote liberal democrat, but it has been a difficult election for them. They have been caught on that hook of their policy of revoked, which they have struggled with throughout the campaign and still on the eve of the election, they are having to explain and justify why they put forward the idea that they would revoke brexit if there was a live damn government. This was the Home Affairs Spokesman christine jardine. What we said at the time is what we have seen which is for three and half years we have campaigned for a Second Opportunity for people to say whether or not they like the final deal that was brought forward by the conservative government. Now thatis by the conservative government. Now that is not changed and what we said was if we won a majority in the election, that would be such a seismic change in british politics, it would take such a difference for us it would take such a difference for us to win the majority then that would show that there was the will of the people, if you like, had changed, and that there was support for staying within the european union. Meanwhile, in scotland, the snp leader Nicola Sturgeon has written an open letter to voters saying that in scotland, the snp other party to stop brexit and to lock Boris Johnson other party to stop brexit and to lock borisjohnson out of downing street. So, all the parties trying to hone theirfinal street. So, all the parties trying to hone their final message. Street. So, all the parties trying to hone theirfinal message. Many voters will have already made up their minds, perhaps some still are unsure, but what is probably true is that for all of us, this is probably the most seismic election in our lifetime, because we are facing huge change and divergent offers from the main two parties and, lets be honest, its become a contest between the two main parties with Jeremy Corbyn offering a much greater role for the state and Boris Johnson pledging to take britain out of the european union, so a truly huge choice facing voters at this election. Norman, thank you very much. The bbcs opinion poll tracker suggests the conservatives retain a solid lead over labour in the final week of the campaign. A yougov poll published last night suggests the tories are on course for a majority of around 28 seats. Thats 40 seats fewer than the same organisation projected nearly a fortnight ago. The researchers say the wide margin of error means they cannot rule out either a Hung Parliament or a larger conservative majority. The poll is based on interviews with about 100,000 people during the past week. Well, jeremy vine has been taking a closer look at the numbers for us. Lets remember first of all the result of the last general election 2017. Here inside our virtual house of commons, you remember the disastrous bungle by theresa mays conservatives had led them losing David Camerons majority. 326 mps needed for majority in house of commons which is a 650 mps, they got three 108. So fell short. They got a long way back, labour. 262, and the snp, 432 and so on, but the key figure of the night was this one on the wall, which is that the conservatives under theresa may were short by age, so on paper, in this election, 2019, all the conservatives need to do is gain eight seats. Lets bring on the swingometer and see how difficult that would be. It shows you one party in relation to another. If they both stay exactly as they were, last time, than the swing is zero. If you imagine a head to head race, between two parties, the swing shows you where the votes are going. So what sort of swing do the conservatives require . Just to gain eight seats. Lets have a look. Its tiny. Just about half of 1 . A swing into labour territory games the conservatives theres eight seats and, in theory, an overall majority but of course, they would need to not lose any seats either. And that isa not lose any seats either. And that is a bit ofa not lose any seats either. And that is a bit of a task for them. A huge task for labour overall. Lets now show what sort of swing labour would need for an overall majority. Here we see nearly 4 would get labour 45 conservative seats and other seats from other parties, as well, and give them an overall majority in the house of commons. That is a big swing but there is a problem with that particular swing because include scotland, where labour is polling very badly, so what if we say to the swingometer, 0k, show us what sort of swing you would need to get if you are labour and you can find it just to get if you are labour and you can find itjust to england and wales . What kind of swing would you need and here is the answer for you. What kind of swing would you need and here is the answerfor you. It is 6 or thereabouts. An absolutely massive swing, including a seat like rochford in essex where the conservative majority is 5500 which seems unlikely, to say the least. If labour want to be the largest party, they would require a swing of around about 2 , which games the 29 seats on the conservatives and other seats of the parties, as well, so for labour, a mountain to climb, but for the conservatives, not a piece of cake. Jeremy vine. Let us stay on this theme. It is the final day of campaigning in the last chance for the pollsters to give us their best prediction of the result and not long before we find out if they were right. Lets speak to bbcs head of out if they statistics robert cuffe. Good morning. Tell us where we are with the polls. The broad story is there has been a lot of squeeze but not necessarily that much change because if you look at the way the numbers have transpired over the course of the campaign, on screen, both labour and the conservatives have increased their vote share at the expense of their vote share at the expense of the brexit party and the liberal democrats, but they have both been moving up in parallel, both gaining about five points, so although theyve squeeze the other party, the difference in first and second place, conservative and labour, have been Holding Steady in and around the ten point range, so there hasnt been much change in that throughout the campaign. Thats interesting given where we were at the start of the campaign with talks of other parties making serious inroads but then tactical voting is coming into play, so lets see. How will that translate into seats, actual seats in westminster . Yougov have been putting up models, taking the National Trends and applying them to each constituency, so for example old people may be more likely to vote conservatives sales the bigger conservative vote in constituencies where there are more older people and what they have shown in the modelling they have done is probably a majority for the conservatives but they wouldnt rule out a Hung Parliament, so you can see here the range of positive seat numbers, the conservatives, 311 57. Thats a best estimate, 339. Thats a majority of about 28. Similar ranges for each of the other parties but as you can see from that horizontal majority line, the conservatives includes a majority, seismic one, but also a Hung Parliament. Basically, with polling starting tomorrow, there a wide range of possibilities. Absolutely, there are 87 seats within five points of each other. All about modelling assumes the polling is right and we still have a people who told the voters i dont know. We still have the people who told pollsters i might not vote. 0r who may not turn out but may find it too cold or too rainy, so things can change between now and tomorrow and all of these descriptions are always possible what could happen but not a guarantee. And everything to push forfor the guarantee. And everything to push for for the politicians on the campaign trail today. Robert, thank you very much. And of course, its polling day is tomorrow, but if you still havent made up your mind, check out our how should i vote . Guide to the election to see what the parties are promising. Thats on our website bbc. Co. Uk news or on the bbc news app. Myanmars leader Aung San Suu Kyi has started giving evidence in the hague lets listen in. Myanmar is accused of genocide. The cases brought by the gambia representing muslim nations relating to the rohinga Minority Group in the country. She has just to the rohinga Minority Group in the country. She hasjust said to the rohinga Minority Group in the country. She has just said that the country. She has just said that the country was dealing with an Armed Conflict. Myanmar could have done more since the 1980s to emphasise the shared heritage and deeper layers of unity among the diverse peoples of our country. Cycles of intercommunal violence, going back to the 1940s, should be counted not just by practical measures aimed at Sustainable Development and rule of law, but also by nourishing a spiritual mindset of unity. It is a moral responsibility of leaders to guard the aspirations of people for harmony and peace. The third United Nations secretary general had understood this. He wrote in his memoirs, published in 1974, allah i believe the mark of a truly educated and imaginative person faces the 21st ce ntu ry and imaginative person faces the 21st century is that he feels himself to be a planet treats encouraging this added layer of identity, a sense of planetary citizenship, is a fundamental importance for peaceful relations between nations, as well as between ethnic and religious groups. A commitment to broadening the mindset must go hand in hand with practical steps to improve lives. Even before the events of 2016 17, muslim, buddhist and other communities faced what the kofi in an Advisory Commission described as complex challenges of low development and poverty rooted in enduring social conflict between the communities. The myanmar government is committed to addressing these challenges. Together with our partners, we are now striving to ensure that all communities enjoy the same fundamental rights to expedite citizenship verification and application, a mobile team is already in operation. All children born, regardless of religious background, are issued with birth certificates. Arrangements have been made to enable more muslim youth to attend classes at universities across myanmar, whether support of international partners, scholarships will also be made available to stu d e nts will also be made available to students all communities living there. The government has started a social cohesion model project to promote social harmony among all communities. Interfaith forums have been encouraged. These are the sum steps a re been encouraged. These are the sum steps are taken to improve security, livelihoods, access to education and health, citizenship and social cohesion for all communities. Three camps have been closed already and a camps have been closed already and a camp closure strategy has been adopted. Myanmar is also committed to the voluntary safe and dignified repatriation of displaced persons under the Framework Agreement reached between bangladesh and myanmar. Mr president , how can there be an ongoing genocide or genocidal intent when these steps are being taken . To conclude, mr president , and members of the court, today we suffer an internal Armed Conflict between the Buddhist Army and myanmar mag bass Defence Services. Mustangs are not party to have conflict, but it may, like other civilians in the conflict area, be affected by security measures that are in place. We played the court to refrain from taking any action to aggravate the ongoing conflict, Armed Conflict and peace and security. Right now, in the north, an army base is under attack by a group of more than 400 fighters and some 200 insurgents have surrounded a military column. Since we gained independence in 1948, the people have not known the security of Sustainable Development that is a fruit of peace and prosperity. 0ur greatest challenge is to address the roots of distrust and fear, prejudice and hatred that undermine the foundations of our union. We shall adhere steadfastly to our commitment to nonviolence, human rights, National Reconciliation and rule of law. As we go forward to build a Democratic Federal union to which our people have aspired for generations past. We look to justice asa generations past. We look to justice as a champion of the reconciliation and harmony that will assure the security and rights of our people. Mr president , and members of the court, i thank you for your kind attention and i ask that you now call upon Professor William chambers to continue the solutions. Call upon Professor William chambers to continue the solutionslj call upon Professor William chambers to continue the solutions. I thank the donald Aung San Suu Kyi addressing the International Court ofjustice in the hague, saying that if war crimes we re the hague, saying that if war crimes were committed by myanmar, it is possible they do not fall under the 1948 Genocide Convention. That is why myanmar is before the court, accused by the gambia, representing other muslim nations of committing crimes under the Genocide Convention against the Rohinga Muslim minority, and Aung San Suu Kyi also saying to the court that it is not helpful for the International Legal system to take over from domestic courts. Well, lets get a ta ke domestic courts. Well, lets get a take on whats been happening there. Im joined by take on whats been happening there. Imjoined by an take on whats been happening there. Im joined by an International Lawyer. Good to have you with us today. First of all, just to remind everyone, this is not Aung San Suu Kyi or any individual on trial as it were, this is looking at whether the state of myanmar was responsible for any crimes under the Genocide Convention . Good morning, thank you for having me. Yes, exactly, thats the point. These proceedings are very different. They are not of International Criminal trial. There isa International Criminal trial. There is a separate case which is moving forward slowly and the International Criminal court which looks at individuals who are responsible, but as you said, this Court Proceeding is very much focused on the state responsibility of myanmar and i would also add that this is a preliminary sort of step. This is the first step in what will be a very long case Going Forward and at this point right now, there is a very specific legal point that needs to be addressed, can the court provide provisional measures, an injunction, so its not a hearing about the merits of the case, though it might sound like it, but its a very, very initial preliminary step. So what are those provisional measures referred to and what is the threshold which has to be reached for the court to say, yes, these measures be introduced . For the court to say, yes, these measures be introduced . Yes, there isa measures be introduced . Yes, there is a set of requirements under article 41 of the statute for the indication of measures, which usually involve making an initial case that there is a jurisdiction underlying that there are rights which have been violated, that there are measures which can be put forward by the courts, and in this case, from the hearings yesterday, the gambia has asked for very specific provisional measures, a list of six, which includes the cessation of alleged genocide, but also ask very interestingly for access to the un and fact finding missions, given that there was evidence an evidential basis in myanmar at this point, so the point yesterday the gambia made was that it once the court to give very specific measures and a specific order, as well as for the court to comply, to ensure that a few months later, myanmar comes back to the court and reports on the implementation of provisional measures, which is unusual and has not happened before, so a very strong argument to be put forward by gambia. 0k, thank you very much for your time this morning. Despite hopes of an ambitious declaration at the Climate Conference in madrid negotiators face the realities of politics and entrenched positions later as ministers take centre stage. This year, in addition to the regular chapters of melting ice caps, coastal flooding, and major changes to ecosystems, the spotlight has been turned on the how Climate Change is affecting the worlds indigenous communties. Climate activist Greta Thunberg addressed leaders at the summit this morning and said in order to recognise the climate emergency, leaders need to change their behaviour. I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel around the world. And my experience is that the lack of awareness is the same everywhere. Not the least amongst those elected to lead us. There is no sense of urgency whatsoever. 0ur leaders are not behaving as if we were in an emergency. In an emergency, you change your behaviour. If there is a child standing in the middle of the road and cars are coming at full speed, you dont look away because it is too uncomfortable. You immediately run out and rescue that child. And without that sense of urgency, how can we, the people, understand that we are facing a real crisis . And if the people are not fully aware of what is going on, they will not put pressure on the people in power to act. And without pressure from the people, our leaders can get away with basically not doing anything. Which is where we are now. And around and around it goes. Greta thunberg. Lets go live to madrid now to talk to our environment correspondent, matt mcgrath. She is a force of nature, isnt she, and i wonder what impact she can have their when you consider these entrenched political positions, as she calls for change . Indeed. It was a very impassioned speech from her. A year ago she spoke to this conference in poland, and she was hardly no now she is probably the worlds most famous climate activist. She said she wasnt going to give any easy sound bites, she talked a lot about the science, the politics and she accused governments of essentially not living up to the expectations are not living up to the promises theyve made. She was very clear that it would take the people of the world is waking up to this problem, waking up to the urgency of this problem because she recognised many governments made too many promises and didnt live up to them. As a reference the fact here at the negotiations as people around here negotiators a lot of them stayed away from her speech, there were a lot of people there but they were essentially the converted. Many of the key negotiators from some of the countries that want to slow down on going further were not there. And in terms of those indigenous communities we mentioned in the introduction, there is a frustration from them that they feel they are being made to suffer because other larger, more industrialised nations are not doing enough to tackle Climate Change. Thats right. We had a number of Indigenous Leaders coming here from ecuador, peru, saying their governments owe so much money to china that the only way to pay it is to sell them oil and they are digging that oil from pay it is to sell them oil and they are digging that oilfrom parts of the amazon and they were impassioned about that. Greta thunberg tweeted about that. Greta thunberg tweeted about that. Greta thunberg tweeted about that and the brazilian president retorted calling her a brat so there was a spat about that. But i guess it shows in some respects the needs of developing and Indigenous People to make their impassioned pleas, the question is by the end of this week with that amount to something in what might come out of this particular process . Lets watch that closely, thank you very much, matt. Time now for the morning briefing, where we bring you up to speed on the stories people are watching, reading and sharing. Lets take a look at what is trending on social media. No surprise that the top hashtag trending on twitter in the uk is ge2019 as the final day of campaigning in the election race is under way. Tomorrows general election will be the first time the public has gone to the polls in december since the 1920s. Breakfastsjon kay has been to nottingham to find out how you feel about mixing your Christmas Shopping with a visit to the ballot box. 0ne one more shopping day until the election. And at nottinghams christmas market, decisions to be made. It is a bit like voting. You look at what is on offer, you weigh things up, and hope youve made the right choice. I pay a lot for university. We meet nadia looking for presence but thinking of the ballot box. Its time to be growing up, time to make a decision, time to make a choice. She is 18. Have you made your choice because you made your choice . Im not going to chop that say. Sorta. Ive been looking into it, doing my research, ive been a grown up for the first time so, yes, i think i been a grown up for the first time so, yes, ithink i might been a grown up for the first time so, yes, i think i might know. Been a grown up for the first time so, yes, i thinki might know. Is this your first election voting . So, yes, i thinki might know. Is this your first election voting7m is, yes. It is a bit nervous because i dont really know what im doing but i hope i learn. It sounds like youre taking this seriously. A lot of people my age are taking it seriously this year. We want to get involved and prove we can get involved. Whatever the weather on polling day, itll still be freezing here. Junior training night at nottinghams ice rink. This surprised winter election has been tough going, hard fought, and many voters have told us they feel exhausted by a blizzard of misinformation. Give me some words to describe this Election Campaign, what has it been like . Farcical. Embarrassing. Hockey dad lee tells me its embarrassing. Hockey dad lee tells me its left him cold. The campaign to dirty, too demeaning. As this election made you more cynical about politics than you were before it started a month ago . Yes, i studied Government Politics as a kid at school, i did it at gcse level. So i looked deeply into it so i take a keen interest. But politics now isnt what it was when i was studying it, that is for sure. It is a real. It is a real mudslinging match. What is tougher, the politics are what they are doing out there . What they are doing out there now, i couldnt do it but i couldnt run the country either. But with time running out it seems lots of voters are still undecided. In the city centre, we find this mum late night shopping. Whats harder, choosing who to vote for or choosing something for your husband . Choosing who to vote for, probably she would love to buy house next year so what the parties say on the economy is key. When you say something, mean it rather than just saying it to get people behind you. If you are giving our politicians a mark out of ten for the way they have behaved during this campaign, what would you give them . I would give them six. Its been the worst one ive ever known. It is terrible. What has made it bad . The lies and the insinuations and everything else. Gary and christine are not feeling much festive election chair, either. Youre going to vote, right . Definitely. Weve got four granddaughters and i said you must vote. Doesnt matter, Emmeline Pankhurst tied herself to them railings. You vote. Some of us could be voting in horrible Winter Weather tomorrow. But today it is the campaigns final flurry. Jon kay, bbc news, nottingham. Lets ta ke lets take a look now at what youre reading and watching on the bbc news app. Number one on the most ready is the news of a deadly gun battle in jersey city. A Police Officer and five other people have died in what was a series of shoot outs injersey city. Two other Police Officers also wounded during the incident which happened after two gunmen barricaded themselves in a shop. At number two just coming on in the last short while, news that little paulsjohn lennon airport is currently shut as ofa lennon airport is currently shut as of a few minutes ago. A number of flights cancelled after a private plane came off the runway. More details in that story. Number four, exercising and if you put labels on food to suggest that it may take half an hour to exercise off consuming a certain type of food, itll make some food less tempting, so we will do more on that story in a few minutes. Looking down at the most watched, this lovely story from eastleigh near southampton, two hairdressers, Wendy Cummings and hayley moore, they were chatting to their customers, lots of them expressing concerns they are going to be priced out of taking their children to see santa so wendy and hayley got together, they asked the landlord of a local parade of shops if he would allow an empty shop to be set up as a grotto, a more affordable grotto, so children could get their visit to santa in this christmas season. What a lovely story. That is number one on the most watched. Thats it for todays morning briefing. Sport now. And a full round up from the bbc sport centre. Ican i can tell you it was a great night for the english teams in the Champions League last night as both liverpool and chelsea made it through to the knockout stages of the competition with victories. Holders liverpool progressed as Group Stage Winners after beating red bull salzburg 20. An exquisite goal, that one there, from mo salah, securing the win for them. Jurgen klopp was full of praise for his team. I love it i really love it that my team is so smart that they listen and they put a shift in like that. Salzburg was unbelievably strong. Especially in the first half. But we as well. So, we were ready for that fight. Chelsea held on against lille to squeeze through with a 21 victory at stamford bridge. Tammy abraham on the scoresheet again, his 13th goal this season in all competitions. Today was a perfect example for me where we can get better. That is a good achievement for the group that we are in the next eight but once you get to the next stage, and how cut throat it will be, the opposition we are up against, we cannot afford to miss chances or to give chances away. Tottenham and Manchester City both play tonight. City are away to Dinamo Zagreb having secured top spot in their group. Spurs will finish second and theres regardless of their result away to bayern munich. The german champions hammered them 72 in london before Jose Mourinho champions hammered them 72 in london beforeJose Mourinho took over. Has he sat through that match with the players . I watch it. I watch it he sat through that match with the players . Iwatch it. Iwatch it a couple of times, me and my staff, the analysts, we tried to go through every detail of that match but not one single image for the boys. Not at all. We are going to focus more on us than on bayern munich. We will try to develop our model of play. Of course, with different bodies and different faces and different players. Interesting. Nine others are missing, presumed dead. Police say its too dangerous for rescue teams to return to white island to try to recover the victims bodies. A volcanologist at new zealands geological agency, graham leonard, said monitoring equipment on the island was registering increasing seismic activity. As of 11am, our expert estimates a risk or a chance of 40 60 of another eruption, like monday, in the next 24 hours. That is up slightly from 30 50 yesterday. Monitoring parameters are escalating now and since then. Tremor on the island, seismic signals, are escalating at the moment. This co m pa res to escalating at the moment. This compares to a 0. 1 0. 2 chance of eruption that we estimated back on the 29th of october. In summary, yesterday there was a high risk of an eruption. The bbcs sydney correspondent, Shaimaa Khalil sent this update from new zealand. Using ans director for Civil Defence has said that while recovering the bodies from the island is top priority, the science tells us it is still too risky to go. There has been increased volcanic activity on the island and you can see thick plumes of smoke over the volcano in the distance. We also heard from volcanologists who said there is a higher risk of an eruption within the next 24 hours. Police have also acknowledged the need forfamilies police have also acknowledged the need for families for those bodies to be recovered but said it is still too dangerous for rescuers to go in. We also know the postmortem process has started in identifying those who have been confirmed dead. We also heard from senior dr who said the burns that are currently being treated across hospitals across the country have been complicated by the fa ct country have been complicated by the fact victims were exposed to chemicals and gases after the eruption. He said burns units need extra skin for crafts and he said they need 1. 2 million square centimetres of extra skin for replacement which is being ordered in from abroad. We also know an Australian Citizen is being transferred back to sydney for treatment and that families of victims have started arriving in new zealand. At this point, all eyes are on that island and the possibility ofa on that island and the possibility of a Recovery Mission that has become too complicated and possibly too dangerous. 0nline and mobile shopping has become a regular habit for many uk shoppers. In a 2017 study, we came out on top for online household spending, above norway, the us, and australia. While some retailers have changed their Business Strategy to keep up with the trend, others are falling behind. In a survey of 7,500 people, the Consumers Association which . Asked shoppers to rate the most Popular Online shops based on their experiences. So which ones came out on top . Harry rose, editor of which . Joins me now. Who did well . 0r less so . Who did well . Or less so . There is a real split between large established retailers, the likes of Sports Direct and homebase, w smith, who find themselves at the bottom of our survey. Examples of retailers not doing more than basic online shopping, frustrating customers. At the top of the civic and specialist retailers, offering real expertise, great selections of products, so liz earle, richer sounds, and wax photo and video doing very well this year. What are the top gripes from customers . Funnily enough, it is things like products not being available. You find a product you want, it isnt available, your frustration is clear. All too often thatis frustration is clear. All too often that is happening with some of these larger retailers. The specialists are impressing people on the other hand with information, advice on their website, with Customer Service and essentially websites that are easy to navigate and find what you want. There is a hugely different customer expense between those two groups of stores. Lesson for the larger retailers is look at the specialist, look at what they doing, they are providing great Customer Service, products in stock, it isnt rocket science. Youre talking about lessons but does naming and shaming effectively work . Is there any evidence of course the store is doing well they will advertise that fa ct, doing well they will advertise that fact, why shouldnt they but the ones not doing so well, are they taking it on board and changing anything . It doesnt look like so. Similar Companies Come down the bottom of the survey year after year. It is right we should name and shame those companies and we should try and prompt them to improve. Ultimately consumers should look to the top of the table and think and actually, i dont need to put up with this kind of frustration and this annoyance. 0nline shopping is increasingly the norm. Lets reward those retailers offering a good experience and great ranges of products. Is there any evidence people are rejecting some of these online forums and actually returning to the bricks and mortar high street to the bricks and mortar high street to do their shopping . Funnily enough, there are similar themes and play on the high street. We are seeing companies, shops that offer specialist range of products, good Customer Service, knowledgeable staff succeeding on the high street, perhaps one of those larger retailers were not offering anything you couldnt easily do online and couldnt shop around for online and get a better price struggling on the high street and online. So, in terms of that battle between the Customer Experience online and on the high street, what is your assessment of where we are at in terms of delivering customer satisfaction, not only the in store expense all the online store expense but actually things like the product, value for money and so on . It is difficult for retailers to be successful in both bricks and mortar and online, it has been harderfor them than ever. Because there is more competition, there is more choice, people can vote with their feet and shop elsewhere. So it is right retailers are feeling the pressure. That is good for consumers and we should continue to hold them to account. Harry, thank you very much for coming on to talk to us about that survey, the editor of which . Magazine. Coming up shortly, the weather with simon king and then Victoria Derbyshire is at ten p 10am. When you reach for that bar of chocolate, have you ever thought how much exercise it would take to run off the calories . Researchers think if that information was on the labels, it might lead to more of us making healthier choices, and bring down obesity levels. 0ur health correspondent, Dominic Hughes has the details. Food already carries information about calories, fat, sugar and salt content. But researchers say the Current System is poorly understood and its not having an impact on rising levels of obesity. So, what about labelling that tells you the type and amount of exercise youd need to burn off all those calories . We know that the public consistently underestimate the amount of calories. If you ask them how many calories are in the food, they often underestimate how many are in it. So we would like to see physical activity calorie equivalent labelling because it actually gives meaning in terms of context to the exercise or physical activity required to burn that food. As a rough guide, lets put together a lunchtime meal deal. A chicken and bacon sandwich, roughly 445 calories, would require 42 minutes of slow running. A chocolate bar, 229 calories, would need 22 minutes of running. Wash that down with a medium mocha coffee, thats 290 calories and 28 minutes of running. All up, thats more than 1. 5 hours of running. Researchers say such a labelling system could save 200 calories per person per day. This research is limited by a shortage of studies that look at our people would change their habits in real life. But even small reductions in the calories we consume can make a big impact across the whole population. And experts say this is a simple, cheap measure that could make a real difference to the obesity crisis. Dominic hughes, bbc news. Good morning.
