That is just part of the as we have a transient ridge of High Pressure a cross as we have a transient ridge of High Pressure across us at policy announcements coming thick as we have a transient ridge of High Pressure across us at the moment. Where is out towards the west we and fast in this Election Campaign have another clutch of weather with a month to go now. Always good fronts coming our way. They will also later bring in some rain. So to talk to you, jonathan. Jonathan first thing this morning, clear skies means a cold start, especially talking about the words of david scotla nd skies means a cold start, especially scotland and Northern England, where gauke, formerjustice secretary, he we have the frost. Coming further will be talking to us on breakfast at 830 this morning. South, weve also got some clear we will also be speaking to michael skies, variable amounts of cloud, govein we will also be speaking to michael gove in the next few minutes. 100 soldiers will be deployed but a peppering of showers dashed to South Yorkshire today to help across the north and east of western the recovery effort in areas hit by flooding. Scotland. Some of them coming in the government has announced across Northern Ireland and the a support package including compensation for small irish sea. But later the cloud and medium sized businesses which arent covered by insurance. Thickens and we start to see the it follows the evacuation of more arrival of some rain coming in from than 1000 properties. Earlier, lincolnshire farmer the south west. Just fringing into henry ward told us he probably wont be able to plant crops the south west. Just fringing into the south west. Just fringing into the south and east of Northern Ireland, into wales and the south west. Now, wherever you see for at least a year. Bright colours on the charts, that is indicating that we are looking at some heavy bursts of rain. As we we are expected to just stand the head onto the evening and overnight, still some clear skies to be found, cost of this on the chin and be used and in scotland, Northern England, asa cost of this on the chin and be used as a free of charge floodplain and once again under those clear skies, the devastation because it caused you once again will see a widespread frost. Rain continues to push across to not only financial for farmers, losing crops but also the wildlife, some southern frost. Rain continues to push across some southern areas. Frost. Rain continues to push across some southern areas. Showers along the south coast and the channel islands, and to the north of that, the soil, contaminated soil now, all one or two showers as well. But again, there is the odd burst of our ditches and drains are going to green in this line of rain. So again be filled up with silt, it is absolutely horrendous. Some heavy bursts to look out for. Meanwhile, hundreds of residents have been evacuated from the village of fishlake tomorrow, if we pick up on that following severe flood warnings rain, you can see how it starts to for the river don. Brea kfasts tim muffett pivot and then starts to move is there for us this morning, tim. Northwards, heading westwards as well. Merging at times with this second band of rain. This of course people are really having a tough time, good morning. Good morning looks like it is going to fall in areas where we have already had some britain up people talk about flooding issues, but itjust takes communities coming together. It that and afraid to move a little bit sounds a bit of a cliche. But look further south and that will change. North of it, though, we have some clear skies, some showers. It is at the amount of donations and food that has been given. Blankets, cold enough for some of those showers to be wintry in nature on clothes, all sorts of things. There the tops of the hills, and isa clothes, all sorts of things. There is a lot of anger here but also a temperatures below par for this stage in november. The other thing determination to try and get through this as best as possible. You are you will notice is the wind picking up, coming from a cold direction, the churchwarden here, what is your namely from the north or the message this morning . You have so north east. That will make it feel a many donations will stop a bit colder. Into friday, we still have the weather front that is phenomenal response around the plaguing us on thursday. Moving country which we should be eternally grateful. Wonderful kindness from north we have some of the rain from many places. You have so much stuff and you are dealing with angry it heading down across wales and the residents as well. The blame game doesnt get anybody anywhere. What we are doing is constructively, we south west, and then another system now have five pumps in operation and comes in from the south east. But move away from there into north west two more coming in shortly and england, scotland, Northern Ireland, weve got something drier and another six working elsewhere. The brighter. But still no heat wave in prospect, and still quite breezy, as authorities have come together and well. Into saturday, it still remains unsettled, with a fair bit have got that situation in a state of cloud. Still some rain coming out of cloud. Still some rain coming out of that cloud. Some brighter skies where it will finally come under here and there, but temperature wise, well, things a control. Water levels in the village little bit better. We are looking at are control. Water levels in the village a re slowly control. Water levels in the village are slowly subsiding that there is an immense amount to deal with and nine and ten, but still it is going that people are getting to face to be cold whichever way you look at it. Thank you very much, carol. And realities. They come and find their ruined homes and we are doing their best to help them. Boris johnson the Prime Minister pledged more money for councils yesterday to help i hear it. Thank you very much, carol. And iheara rumour, it. Thank you very much, carol. And i heara rumour, and you can it. Thank you very much, carol. And i hear a rumour, and you can confirm whether this is true or not, that residents and businesses was not you might be singing a bit of karaoke later. Yes, not on Jeremy Corbyn describes the response brea kfast. Karaoke later. Yes, not on breakfast. You say not on breakfast, by the government as woeful. So a but we will be listening in. lot of anger and clearing up to do as well. Thank you, tim. Breakfast. You say not on breakfast, but we will be listening in. I hope not. As you well know, i cant sing. Meanwhile, the italian city of venice has also been hit i cant hold a note. This will be a by severe flooding after the highest tide in more than 50 years. Saint marks square was under disaster. In my view it doesnt a metre of water last night. Matter, as long as you do it with tourists were seen wading enthusiasm, it is going to be great. Through waterlogged streets. The mayor warned the floods would leave permanent damage just bust out some massive shakes, to the city. We will look forward to that. Thank you very much and we will see you in half an hour, thank you very much our lead story this morning. Indeed. After 14 year old Molly Russell took her own life, her father, ian, made headlines around the world when he spoke out about her death and lobbied instagram former cabinet minister david gauke to remove harmful content. Says he thinks breixt he has travelled to the us to learn is the key issue in this election more about a Texting Service but that the conservative party has which connects people in crisis got it badly wrong and the last with volunteer counsellors. Few months have been the project has now launched uncomfortable. In a scathing attack, in the uk, and it has won mr gauke claims a conservative the support of the duke government would put and duchess of cambridge. Prosperity at risk by pursuing Angus Crawford reports. A very hard brexit. Were joined now from westminster by michael gove. Thank you forjoining us. I know you will be familiar with david gaukes comments but for people watching us this morning, he says a conservative majority at the next election would bea majority at the next election would be a bad outcome for the country. Helping young people, improving Mental Health, a joint mission for this is one of your former colleagues. How damaging is this the duke and duchess of cambridge. Right at the start of an election one shared by ian russell, Whose Campaign . Well, david is a good daughter, molly, took her own life friend but i think on this issue he has it per slice precisely wrong. Two years ago. Here, meeting at an the only way in which we can get brexit done and move on with the event for the charity shout. But people s priorities in policing, education, et cetera, is by making what is shout . It connects volunteer sure we do have counsellors with people in crisis, majority government. We want to get Parliament Working for the british all by text, across the uk. Launched people and that means we need a working majority and the only way in which we can make sure the division six months ago, it has trained 1500 and paralysis we have seen in volunteers, who have had 145,000 parliament over the last few months and is by giving borisjohnson that conversations with people in crisis. Strong majority in parliament which thats 6 million texts. And this is will ensure that we can get this where it all began, new york. Brexit deal through and then get on with investing where the country needs it. Let me put this point to recently, ian russell came to meet the services founder. Here, it is you. He says the party will pursue a called crisis text line. I would ha rd you. He says the party will pursue a hard brexit, putting prosperity at love to be put out of business. My risk. Dream, iam i respectfully disagree again. What love to be put out of business. My dream, i am not for profit. Crisis we are proposing is a good brexit deal which will work for the whole text line, we are not for profit, we United Kingdom which will allow us are an ngo, we offer the public to have a relationship based on free good. My dream would be to go out of trade and friendly cooperation with the eu and also enable us to business on sunday because people dont need us anymore. Right now i conclude trade deals with other am unfortunately in a growth countries as well which will be good business. Pain pain seems to be a for British Consumers in helping to keep prices down and also good for Growth Business in both of our countries. Well, theres a lot of British Companies in making sure that we can export more and so that more people can have well paid jobs you, its fantastic. From the prince and job security. One of his points as well. Esport does he talks specifically about this refusal to in london, very important message. Thank you to all of you, all the extend he talks specifically volunteers. You are all wonderful and we are very proud of you. Thank you. And for ian, a chance to ask about his refusal to extend beyond questions. It is shocking how many january. That is true. So we will people are so young and having really ha rd people are so young and having really hard Mental Health problems like suicidal feelings, and really hard Mental Health problems like suicidalfeelings, and people who are like 12, it is just crazy how young it is. Have you talk to end up on World Trade Organisation someone as young as. Yes, i have terms and he goes on to say that had some. Those are the hardest one, think. Sometimes there are texts which they thank you so much for being there and listening because there was no one else to talk to at would be devastating to many sectors. Again, i think would be devastating to many that point. And that is an sectors. Again, ithink that would be devastating to many sectors. Again, i think that david, for whom i have a lot of respect, is incredibly rewarding experience. Wrong in that regard. We are going well, i get nervous before every to get a good deal with the european shift, but to me thatjust union and we will get it by the end well, i get nervous before every shift, but to me that just shows that i actually am caring about what of 2020. One of the problems we have im about to do. It has certainly had is that parliament has engaged in endless dither and delay on this. That is because we havent had an Strong Enough majority which has crossed my mind to think that, had been capable of Getting Parliament shout existed, instead of turning to working and making sure that we not the dark places of the internet, only can secure a good brexit deal but also focus on issues that matter molly may well have reached out to shout, and you never know, she may still be with us today. So theres so much to so many people. There are ultimately, and i know david an element of sadness, but you to appreciates this, only two choices of people we can have prime say, there is an element of minister. We can only have Boris Johnson who can deliver brexit or positivity, as well, because this is Jeremy Corbyn and ifJeremy Corbyn here now, and it is helping people. Isa Jeremy Corbyn and ifJeremy Corbyn wave it all around, yay harnessing is a Prime Minister, we have the prospect of not one but two the power of people who want to do good for those who need it most. If you have been affected by any of the issues covered in that report additional referendums next year. And would like details of organisations which offer advice one on our position in europe and and support, go online one or whether or not scotland to bbc. Co. Uk actionline, should say part of the united or you can call for free at any time to hear recorded information kingdom. And that will create division, paralysis, it will suck on 0800 066 066. All the oxygen out of our political system and that is no way to go for a great country like ours. When you go to a great country like ours. When you gotoa a great country like ours. When you go to a doorstep and you knock on the door and somebody says to you, one of the loyal conservative mps that he was, david gauke, is telling people that it would be a bad outcome for the country was not how are you going to counter that . Well, i would make the point that david is we have a lovely mix for you today, a good friend but i disagree with matt damon and Christian Bale coming him. I would actually point out there has been a very there have up matt damon and Christian Bale coming up later. They are not actually been some very powerful voices from within the labour party. Four former here. They will be here but not here, if you know what i mean. We labour mps have made it clear that have a series of not mps anymore, they couldnt countenance suggesting to anybody that they should vote but those who would like your vote labour because jeremy from various parties on the way over to anybody that they should vote labour becauseJeremy Corbyn has an extreme position on national the course of the programme. And if security. His position on economics you are a big fan of strictly, we would undermine the prosperity. We are talking to the labour party a have karim and amy, who will be on little bit later so thank you. The sofa, talking about going to well you asked me because what i blackpool this weekend. Time now to get the news, would say to anyone on the doorstep travel and weather where you are. Andi would say to anyone on the doorstep good morning, im alice salfield. And i would point out that while david has a very particular view which respect, nevertheless, there a Record Number of people in london are being forced to use food banks, area which respect, nevertheless, there with more than a third of emergency are a huge number of significant parcels given to children. The trussell trust, which runs labourfigures a network of food banks, are a huge number of significant said this april to september was one labour figures who have are a huge number of significant labourfigures who have been are a huge number of significant labour figures who have been warning us about the danger ofjeremy of its busiest ever periods, corbyn. I would also say to anyone with 22 more people on the doorstep, look, do you want using them than last year. The charity is calling for changes to get brexit done or not . The overwhelming response i have had to benefits to make sure everyone when i have talked to voters in my can afford the basics. Own constituency in surrey and across the United Kingdom, is that people want to get Parliament Working again and the only way to do thatis working again and the only way to do that is with a working conservative majority. Can i also ask you about something which of course i know you Oxford Street will get its biggest will feel strongly about as former transformation in 50 years. Along with the surrounding area, environment secretary, this flooding it will have almost £3 billion and what is going on. Before i talk invested into it from both the public and private sectors. To you, let us hear from once crossrail is completed, and what is going on. Before i talk to you, let us hearfrom people and what is going on. Before i talk to you, let us hear from people who have been directly affected by it. It is predicted there will be 60 million new visitors. We have people are getting a bit angry and emotional. And a bit upset. Why did every year your donations help raise it happen . How did it happen . It millions for children in need, should never have happened in my and this week, we want to show opinion. Let us pick out pick up, you how some of that money is spent. Snow camp supports hundreds of young people from deprived areas why did it happen and how did it through skiing, and it can even lead to them becoming instructors. Happen . My heart goes out to what we want to do from here, we just want to bring our skis nice and eve ryo ne happen . My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected and of course there is an increasing straight. Snow camp has helped me to risk of flooding as a consequence of Climate Change and that is why we need to do two things, we need to invest in flood defences which this kind of find myself, held me to government has been doing and there is more that we need to do and will learn things about myself. I didnt do. We also need to talk about the long term. We need to make sure that know about myself, now that i know i we have the right approach on the environment and the Prime Minister can help myself to build and make later today will be making a speech myself a better person going forward. They have just helped me to in which he outlines some of the steps in which we can take in order kind of discover what i want to do to make sure that we have a zero and who i want to carbon future. Steps like ensuring on friday night, we will that. Let usjust talk about. Be broadcasting live from the Postal Museum during children in need, so make sure you tune in then. Other means in which we can ensure lets take a look at the travel situation now, that adverse events which are often starting off well with a good service on the tubes. Generated by Climate Change can effectively be prevented. To talk this is borough high street. About the future but let us it is closed for emergency repairs specifically talk about this right to a burst watermain. Bus routes are on diversion. Now because some people are saying that this should be called a in surbiton, there is another burst national emergency. Is it a national watermain, closing lamberts road. One of the Railway Lines emergency . It is certainly an towards waterloo has flooded, emergency . It is certainly an causing some cancellations emergency and deserves a national for south western railway. Response and that is what we have and in wandsworth, the a3 west hill had to stop have army units and an is closed out of town from the a205 upper richmond road to sutherland grove, and that is for gas works. Now the weather, with kate. Raf from hampshire which has been destroyed deployed from help. We have had cabinet ministers visiting good morning. Its another chilly the areas to talk to victims and it start out there this morning. Is also the case that the government have made money available to local authorities to deal with this particular crisis and the Environment Agency has scrambled as well in order to make sure that temperature is largely above zero, flood Emergency Centres have been activated. Just to be clear because i understand if it is actually called a national emergency, funding will be released so are you calling though, and it should be a largely it that and will that extra funding dry day as well, with plenty of be released . Extra funding is being sunny spells. Now, to start with, released. Sorry again. We are you might feel a spot of rain, but you might feel a spot of rain, but you will barely notice it. It will listening to every local authority clear, and then we have these lovely that has been affected was not let sunny spells. Now, the wind is not us know what you need and we will quite as brisk as it has been for make good. We are staying to loose the last few days. Temperature still we are saying to local businesses chilly, though, and were looking at a maximum somewhere between seven that money will be available and and nine celsius. Youll notice this band of cloud just sneaking in also individual households, £500, in towards the end of the afternoon down towards the south west. That order to help them through what we continues into the evening and bring some wet weather overnight. Some heavy rain from midnight. The met Office Actually has a yellow weather all recognise is an incredibly warnings in place for this heavy rain. Its going to continue through difficult time. It is heartbreaking to dawn tomorrow morning. Minimum to see anyones home flooded and you temperature between three and five celsius, so a wet start for we re thursday. That rain moves away to see anyones home flooded and you were talking earlier to a farmer in north. We could see some showers, lincolnshire who i know has, as a though, in its wake, and the result of this flooding, potentially temperature remains constant. It stays rather unsettled right the way through to the weekend, but the lost a years worker crops. What we temperature is going to feel rather cool right the way into the first wa nt to lost a years worker crops. What we pa rt want to do is to make sure that we cool right the way into the first part of next week. Thats all for now. Im back with the latest effectively help all those affected in half an hour. And that means that government is now, though, its back to louise and dan. See you soon. Providing money, it is providing boots on the ground, it is also making sure we invest in flood defences for the future. Just picking up on that point. Hello this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. Its 6 30. Well bring you all the latest news he also said he had not been and sport in a moment, but also on breakfast this morning. Contacted he also said he had not been co nta cted by he also said he had not been contacted by the Environment Agency, we are not the worst drivers in the for example. So other systems world. No, not the worst but the actually working . From what he says, worst drivers on that set. Matt damon and Christian Bale tell it would appear not. The Environment Agency does fantastic work and its us about getting behind the wheel staff on for new film le mans 66 radio 2 presenter, Rylan Clark Neal is taking on a 24 hour karaoke challenge staff the agency does fantastic work and its for bbc children in need. Staff the ground have been co ordinating a response. I will well catch up with rylan talk to the chief executive of the as he nears the end of his Marathon Agency a bit later and make sure the sing a long. Sir matt busby led Manchester United to five League Titles and was also manager during the m unich air disaster. Now a new documentary looks back at his life and career. Well hear from former players and the films director. Good morning, heres support is there. I know he and his a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. Tea m support is there. I know he and his team are dedicated Public Servants who want to do anything to help those affected. Lets go back to the money that you say you are going to give businesses and people affected as well. We have seen pictures over the last few days, and indeed on brea kfast the last few days, and indeed on breakfast this morning, of people whose note comic homes have been flooded. £500, do you think that is enough when your home has been flooded . Well, it is a start, and it is certainly the case also that the formerjustice secretary, local government can apply to david gauke, has launched Central Government for additional a blistering attack funds. And it is up to local on the conservative party, government to decide how that money saying a tory majority can be spent. So local authorities in the general election would be bad for the country. Mr gauke, whos announced hes standing as an independent, said the conservatives would pursue can be spent. So local authorities a very hard brexit putting can help individuals and businesses who have been affected by these events. Ok, michael gove, thank you prosperity at risk. Mr gauke was one of 21 mps kicked very much for your time here on out of the conservative party brea kfast very much for your time here on breakfast this morning. Thank you, louise, thank you. Let us know what in september after backing a plan you think about that and any other to prevent a no deal brexit. Interview we do on the programme. We will speak to labours john 100 Army Soldiers will be deployed interview we do on the programme. We will speak to laboursjohn ashworth and to the liberal democrats and to South Yorkshire today to help the recovery effort in areas hit by flooding. Also david gauke, the formerjustice the government has announced secretary. Michael gove has said a support package including compensation for small and medium sized businesses that a conservative majority in this which arent covered by insurance. General election coming up would be it follows the evacuation of more bad for the country. That is a former cabinet minister saying that. Than 1000 properties. We will be speaking to him injust over an hours time. Carol is also with us this morning, meanwhile, the italian city of venice has also been hit by severe flooding after the highest tide in more than 50 years. And can bring us up to date with the saint marks square was under weather. Good morning, carol. Good morning, everyone. I have a lovely a metre of water last night. Tourists were seen wading picture from one of our weather through waterlogged streets. Watchers, and many of us seeing a the mayor warned the floods lovely sunrise this morning. It is a would leave permanent damage to the city. Cold start, a widespread frost across scotland and also Northern England in particular. Temperatures authorities in australia have warned down to 5. Many of us seeing some that massive bushfires raging in two states will continue to pose a threat, despite conditions sunny spells today, but there is easing. Around 130 fires are still burning more rain on the way. What is in New South Wales and queensland. Fifty houses were destroyed happening is yesterdays france or damaged yesterday. Moved away. We have a transient meterologists say ridge of High Pressure across us this year so far has been among the driest and hottest ever which has kept things fairly settled through the night, and this next clutch of fronts coming our way will recorded in australia. Introduce rain later on. So a lot of hes been singing for 24 hours clear skies to start the day, which is one of the reasons that average to raise money for children in need has fallen away so much, and we have a peppering of showers around our and this morning presenter Rylan Clark Neal is still going coastlines. Not many of them getting strong despite being up all night. Too far inland. Through the day they lets take a look. Will be replaced in the west by some rain coming across southern parts of Northern Ireland, in through wales in South West England. And whenever you see a bright green or yellow in the charts, that indicates we are looking at some heavier bursts of rain as well. I cold feel wherever you are. Now, through this evening and overnight, this band of rain continues to edge in. You can see yes, that is about as good as my how it pivots, so we will have the karaoke. He has been excellent, though. Carol will be joining karaoke. He has been excellent, rain extending through parts of South West England, wales, parts of though. Carol will bejoining in the midlands, in through london and about 7 50 i think. Maybe he is down towards kent. South of that we are not immune to some showers across southern coastal counties and holding back a little bit. He has been allowed to go to the toilet and eat but he hasnt been able to the channel islands. North of that, sleep. The ka ry oke challenge on bbc radio 2 started yesterday morning at 9am and since then rylan has performed duets with stars like beverley knight, rick astley and steps. When we mentioned that carol was going to sing, i will describe your face, sally. You looked a little bit shocked. To be fair, carol did tell us shocked. To be fair, carol did tell us only 20 minutes ago that she is they will be one or two showers not the greatest singer. She is well which could well prove to be wintry on the hills, but many of us again known. She can do almost anything in having clear skies. Now, with less ofa having clear skies. Now, with less of a breeze across scotland and Northern England, once again we are the world, carol, but singing is not looking at a widespread frost. And one of those. A snazzy outfit, where there has been showers, you could also see some ice on untreated surfaces. Thursday morning we have this rain band across southern distraction techniques. It willjust areas. You can see another one ca role distraction techniques. It willjust coming in hot on its heels, and it carole being fabulous. Looks like that rain is going to pivot a little bit further north. So again, it could land in areas where we really do not want to see any more rain. These black circles england manager Gareth Southgates compared the row indicate gusts of wind. So it will between two of his squad, be quite a windy day tomorrow, and Raheem Sterling and joe gomez, the wind coming from a cold to a family disagreement. Direction, namely from the north of the north east. So that is going to exacerbate the cold feel. The temperatures are below par anyway for this stage in november. We are looking at roughly five or six more or less across the board. By the time we get to friday, a weather he has been criticised for going a front will be draped across parts of bit farfor dropping he has been criticised for going a bit far for dropping Raheem Stirling but we dont know what has been going on in this private room in englands training. Southgate has Northern England, wales, heading basically said, i will hand it, down towards the south west. They will be a lot of cloud behind it, handle it, i am the manager. Some dampness here and there. Ahead of it we will be looking at some hes dropped sterling for englands next game after an incident sunny skies in scotland and Northern Ireland, of it we will be looking at some sunny skies in scotland and Northern Ireland, but then we have got in the team hotel. Another system coming in from the south east, and that is also going to introduce some rain. Temperature wise, six in the north gomez had a scratch underneath his to about seven or eight in the south. Carol, thank you very much. Right eye at training yesterday but southgate didnt confirm we will see you in half an hour. Thank you. Tackling Youth Violence whether that was caused by sterling. And gang related crime the two had an earlier confrontation is the election pledge being made during liverpools win over by the liberal democrats today. The party says it will invest £500 Manchester City on sunday. Million in Youth Services aimed at combating knife crime. Liberal democrat leaderjo swinson says the party would adopt a Public Health approach to i love all of my players. We are dealing with violence. We arejoined now from edinburgh like a by the partys Home Affairs Spokesperson christine jardine. I love all of my players. We are likeafamily i love all of my players. We are like a family and all families have thank you very much for coming on and having a word with us this disagreements and the most important morning on the programme. Yesterday we heard about £5 billion of flood thing for any family is that you communicate through those disagreements and you work through defences, £500 million for youth them, so i dont expect, as a services today. Where, can you tell manager, to never have to deal with us, is that money coming from . Well, that money will be fully costed, our things that are either unexpected or difficult. Programme manifesto when it comes there were no goals out will be quite clear about where between Northern Ireland and wales this money is coming from, and that women in their European Championship qualifier. It is affordable. And we are hopeful englands women beat the Czech Republic in a friendly that the office of budget and manager phil neville says responsibility will look at it, and the hard work starts now. The lionesses form has been poor and they went behind before we will ask all the parties to do goals from beth england and beth mead turned it around. The czechs equalised but Leah WilliamsonsFirst International goal snatched a late their homework and check their homework to make sure they have got it right. Were quite confident victory in the snow. About that. If i could just say how heartbreaking it is to see these these players very rarely let me scenes of flooding across the again, and to know that this is something which affects peoples lives, it is much more than just damage to bricks down as a manager. I am proud of and mortar. You lose the memories, their work over the last 12 months. You lose when everything is destroyed, and very often you lose now wejust everything. I have seen this, and my their work over the last 12 months. Now we just have to knuckle down. Stop talking, keep working hard and constituency is somewhere where we deliver better performances. Had flash flooding, and people came to see me afterwards who had had andy murray feels he has a chance of beating the best players lots of damage to their house. That is why this £5 billion flood in the world again as he continues his comeback after hip surgery. Prevention scheme is important, murray had an eventful october winning his first tour title in more because it is important to stop the than two years and then becoming flooding before it happens, to have a father for the third time. He says hes excited the access to the european funding about his future but now thinks that that we have at the moment, that winning isnt everything. Brexit would cut us off from. It is important that we stop it happening, that we work to tackle climate what i have learned in the last couple of years, i dont really, change, rather than. People that we work to tackle Climate Change, ratherthan. People have to put their lives together really care about rankings, i dont really care about rankings, i dont afterwards. In terms of that £500 really care about winning tennis competitions, it is nice and its brilliant to that but actually, i really enjoy playing tennis. Like, i love it. Million for Youth Services, which you are talking about today, how murray will have been keeping does that money make a difference . An eye on how a couple of his old rivals were getting we have spoken to so many people on this sofa, on this programme, on at the atp tour finals in london. Talking about for example the issue of knife crime, and they all say and there was a surprise for Novak Djokovic last night. That money doesnt actually make a difference. So what will that money he was beaten ina pulsating do, and how will you address an three set match by austrian dominic thiem. Issue like that . I dont actually agree with that, because i think it the 26 year old came back from a set is where you spend the money and how down to win and book a place you spend the money, and thats in the semis. Whats important. You spend the money, and thats whats important. You can say that you dont agree with it, but we have spoken on this programme a few months ago to the mother of a son Roger Federer had a better day. Who was stabbed and killed in he needed to beat Matteo Berettini birmingham, and that is exactly the point that she made. It is young to stay in with a chance of reaching the semis, and he did just that lives that we need to protect, and we need to stop young people getting winning in straight sets. Great britains sophie hahn involved or being scared to walk the broke her own world record as she took the gold medal streets of their own towns at the in the t38100 metres at the world para athletics moment, because of the violence that championships in dubai. Hahn, whos also the Paralympic Champion in this event, they might encounter. And we have stormed to her sixth world gold medal over sprint distances. Seen how this can be done. It was she said that all her donein seen how this can be done. It was done in glasgow. Where the Violence Reduction unit, strathclyde police, managed to turn the situation around hard work had paid off. So that Violent Crime was halved. In i feel a the number of admissions to accident ifeel a bit i feel a bit mean for showing you this next thing. And emergency fell by 62 . The number of admissions with knife look away now if youre wounds. That is what we need across a yeovil town fan the country, to protect our young or you know courtney duffus. People. And they did that in glasgow by doing what we are proposing now, during yeovils 4 1 fa which is a youth action plan, which cup defeat to hartlepool last night treats the problem notjust by poor courtney managed to miss this chance from right on the goalline. Shall we look at it again . Oh, dear. Punishing people afterwards, but by looking at the causes, why young people are getting involved in crime orare people are getting involved in crime or are being victims of crime. And i always feel really mean sharing investing in education, in social programmes, in health, and looking those but very popular this morning in the newsroom. Courtney just a at the cause of the problem, trying moment to contemplate. It bubbles to fix what is wrong, getting young over the grass, bounces up. I have been a victim of wobbling before. People away from drugs, from violence, by giving them alternatives, by investing in Youth Services. And thats the key. Its bobbling. Have you played one game stopping the problem happening, its not punishing people afterwards. Community police should be involved, but it is stopping it happening. How of football your whole life . Yes. Is that different from the current government policy . I know you are already praising what is happening that is terrible, isnt it . Does that count in your backyard . In scotland, but sajid javid in october 2018 was speaking specifically about the Public Health approach to these issues, and that it is great fun. I have played in has been government policy since the back garden, of course, i have. July. What is the difference . The difference is that what we have had more than 1,000 acres of farmland with the home secretary, priti patel in lincolnshire has been submerged, after a breach in the banks of the barlings eau, a river near lincoln. The flooding is more than two metres has been talking about being deep in some places and has turned Rolling Fields into open water. Terrified of setting the police henry wards farm has been cut off against communities. That is the by the floodwater and he joins us worst possible thing to do. What we need to be doing is building now from our lincoln newsroom. Bridges, investing in more police officers, police officers, yes, but doing it in such a way that people are not terrified of them. People dont think they are going to be thank you so much for coming on stopped and searched without suspicion. And people see the today and telling us a little bit about this. We will see some of the Community Police as part of the community, and there to help them. Shots of your farm and the aerial it isa community, and there to help them. It is a different approach, it is a footage is staggering. Give us an idea of how bad the waterlogging has been and what state the property is different state of mind. It is about in at the moment. Take you for seeing young people as, you know, are part of the community that we need to protect and help and talking to me this morning. Yes, it support, rather than this constant, you know, making people frightened is just horrendous. Of the police, separating the police talking to me this morning. Yes, it isjust horrendous. First talking to me this morning. Yes, it is just horrendous. First and foremost, i would like to say our from the community. And we need to sympathies go out to people who have ta ke from the community. And we need to take a much more holistic approach been afflicted affected by to the problem, and much more flooding all around the area and Residential Property and people s inclusive approach, and work lives and property must be protected overfamily lives and property must be protected over family that make farmland together on it. What i hearfrom the however, the riverbank they burst home office every week, or have been its banks on saturday morning and hearing before the election with this government, is not an approach the hole in the riverbank hasnt which is conducive to solving the been filled in yet so the water problem. It is conducive to creating levels still rising. There is well over 1000 acres of land under over a bad atmosphere, a broken relationship between police and communities. In that doesnt help 610 over 1000 acres of land under over 6 10 feet of water and it is just any of us. Thank you very much for your time this morning on the staggering. I went across it in a boat yesterday which was so surreal. The Financial Impact of this is programme. Still to come on breakfast radio 2 going to be unprecedented. We can presenter Rylan Clark Neal is taking on a 24 hour karaoke challenge for bbc children in need. We will catch up with rylan see these pictures now. As we as he nears the end understand, this is a new farm that of his marathon singalong. You are due to be moving into. It looks as though the farmhouse itself, is that flooded as well . Is itself, is that flooded as well . Is it safe on an island in the middle . Father had the foresight to build i was watching yesterday, it was going great guns. He had rick that higher than the riverbanks just in case an event like this ever astley, and steps, and carol is happened. It is marooned in the yard going on shortly. We understand is marooned like an island as well carol is going to do the next but the water isnt actually in the house but we cant get to and from weather forecast, i carol is going to do the next weatherforecast, i think, carol is going to do the next weatherforecast, ithink, and carol is going to do the next weather forecast, i think, and then she is going to sing with rylan, the yard apart from via a boat. Which is very exciting for us. House but we cant get to and from the yard apart from via a boatm in terms of the river damage this has caused. We probably wont be able to plant any crops for 12 months. There is a poultry farm next door and they have chickens fled he does look a bit tired, doesnt chicken sheds flooded. They have had to move their chickens out. Another farm has had to make build make he . You have to admire his resilience, endurance. We will get ship dams and that was without any financial help from the environment an official update and find out exactly. Doing anything for that agency. The cost of that, long is tiring. Ridiculous. We havent heard from time now to get the news, the Environment Agency and whose responsibility this is and we dont know when or what is going to travel and weather where you are. Happen. Were you building this farm in an area that was prone to good morning, im alice salfield. A Record Number of people in london flooding . Or is this a strange are being forced to use food banks, occurrence . It has flooded before in with more than a third that area. It is not a managed flood of emergency parcels given to those with children. The trussell trust, which runs a network of food banks, said this april to september was one floodplain. There is one only a of its busiest ever periods, quarter of a mile away. You are with 22 more people seeing pictures on the tv and that using them than last year. The charity is calling for changes isa seeing pictures on the tv and that is a managed floodplain by the to benefits to make sure everyone can afford the basics. Environment agency. The problem is, we believe the Environment Agency keeps these riverbanks very weak so Oxford Street is set they do burst and protect the to get its biggest transformation in 50 years, with nearly £3 residents of lincoln at a cost to billion of investment. The new west end company, which represents businesses in the area, says pedestrians us. We are expected to withstand the will be prioritised with the hope of reducing pollution cost of this on the chin and be used asa cost of this on the chin and be used as a free of charge floodplain and and congestion. The devastation is causing not only lets take a look at the travel situation now. Financial, losing crops but also the all good on the tubes wildlife, the soil, contain a man so far this morning. Contaminated soil, all of our but in northolt, it is slow just off the a40 around the polish war memorial roundabout. Ditches and drains filled up with it is because of temporary traffic silt, it is absolutely horrendous. Lights on west end road let me read to you and our viewers for water works. What our Environment Agency has said in bricket wood, the roundabout in response to this. We carry out at the a405 north orbital road regular maintenance. The river is closed because of a diesel spillage, with no access to or from the m25 clockwise. Topped over which damaged the banks. We know the devastating impact that flooding can have which is why and borough high street is closed protecting people continue to be our for emergency repairs to a burst watermain. Bus routes are on diversion. Top priority but you fundamentally 00 43 49,604 4294966103 13 29,430 feel that it now, every year your donations help raise millions for children in need, and this week, we want to show you how some of that money is spent. What we want to do from here just have to bring our skis nice and straight. Snow camp supports hundreds of young people from deprived areas through skiing, and it can even lead to them becoming instructors. Snow camp has helped me to kind of find myself, it helped me to learn things about myself i didnt know about myself. And now that i know, i can help myself to build, and make myself a better person going forward. Theyve just helped me to kind of discover what i wanted to do, and who i want to be. On friday night, we will be broadcasting live from the Postal Museum during children in need, so make sure you tune in then. Now the weather, with kate. Good morning. Its another chilly start out there this morning. Temperatures largely above zero, though, and it should be a largely dry day as well, with plenty of sunny spells. Now, to start with, you might feel a spot of rain, but youll barely notice it. It will clear, and then we have these lovely sunny spells. Now, the winds not quite as brisk as it has been for the last few days. Temperature still chilly, though, and were looking at a maximum somewhere between seven and nine celsius. Youll notice this band of cloud just sneaking in towards the end of the afternoon down towards the south west. That continues into the evening and brings some wet weather overnight, some heavy rain. From midnight, the met Office Actually has a yellow weather warning in place for this heavy rain. Its going to continue through to dawn tomorrow morning. Minimum temperature between three and five celsius, so a wet start for thursday. That rain moves away north. We could see some showers, though, in its wake, and the temperature remains constant. It stays rather unsettled right the way through to the weekend, but the temperature is going to feel rather cool right the way into the first part of next week. Thats all for now. Hello, this is breakfast with dan walker and Louise Minchin. Heres a summary of this mornings main stories from bbc news. The formerjustice secretary, david gauke, has launched a blistering attack on the conservative party, saying a tory majority in the general election would be bad for the country. Mr gauke was one of 21 mps kicked out of the party in september, after backing a plan to prevent the uk leaving the eu with no deal. Hes announced hes standing as an independent, and says a conservative majority after the election would lead to a very hard brexit. And in all likelihood, at the end of 2020, we will leave the implementation period without a deal with the European Union on wto terms, in effect, on no deal terms. And that, i believe, would be the disastrous for the prosperity of the country. Whole sectors would become unviable. Agricultural sector, manufacturing industries, will be in a very, very difficult position if we go down that route. In the last half an hour, michael gove told us he respectfully disagrees with his former cabinet colleague. I think on this issue, he has got it precisely wrong. The only way in which we can get brexit done and move on with the peoples priorities in policing, education, the nhs, is by making sure that we do have a functioning majority government. 100 Army Soldiers will be deployed to South Yorkshire today to help the recovery effort in areas hit by flooding. The government has announced a support package including compensation for small and medium sized businesses which arent covered by insurance. It follows the evacuation of more than 1000 properties. Meanwhile, the italian city of venice has also been hit by severe flooding after the highest tide in more than 50 years. Saint marks square was under a metre of water last night. Tourists were seen wading through waterlogged streets. The mayor warned the floods would leave permanent damage to the city. I told you she would be good at it. That is our very own Carol Kirkwood in the midst of a weather producing morning. It is the ka ry oke challenge. Our very own Carol Kirkwood singing. We missed the high note. Well done, carol. When she has been spun all the way round with our weather forecast, we will see been spun all the way round with our weatherforecast, we will see her then. Shejust weatherforecast, we will see her then. She just told weatherforecast, we will see her then. Shejust told us weatherforecast, we will see her then. She just told us she would give it a summer. Huge admiration we would be able to speak to ryler soon. We are talking about the second day the big story so far from sport. Southgate gave it best confidence press co nfe re nce southgate gave it best confidence press conference yesterday which is quite refreshing because of these happen in football clubs all the time. But, he decidedjust happen in football clubs all the time. But, he decided just to talk about it was not really refreshing. England manager Gareth Southgates compared the row between two of his squad, Raheem Sterling and joe gomez, to a family disagreement. Hes dropped sterling for englands next game after an incident in the team hotel. Gomez had a scratch underneath his right eye at training yesterday but southgate didnt confirm whether that was caused by sterling. The two had an earlier confrontation during liverpools win over Manchester City on sunday. I love all of my players. We are like a family and all families have disagreements and the most important thing for any family is that you communicate through those disagreements and you work through them, so i dont expect, as a manager, to never have to deal with things that are either unexpected or difficult. There were no goals between Northern Ireland and wales women in their European Championship qualifier. Leah williamson scored in the snow to give england a much needed 3 2 victory over the Czech Republic and only their second win in six games since the world cup. Andy murray feels he has a chance of beating the best players in the world again as he continues his comeback after hip surgery. Murray had an eventful october winning his first tour title in more than two years and then becoming a father for the third time. He says hes excited about his future but now thinks that winning isnt everything. What i have learned in the last couple of years, i dont really, really care about rankings, i dont really care about winning tennis competitions, it is nice and its brilliant to that but actually, i really enjoy playing tennis. Like, i love it. Murray will have been keeping an eye on how a couple of his old rivals were getting on at the atp tour finals in london. And there was a surprise for Novak Djokovic last night. He was beaten in a pulsating three set match by austrian dominic thiem. The 26 year old came back from a set down to win and book a place in the semis. He is playing brilliantly. Andy murray has given away the name of his third child. Little little boy, baron. It is a Murray Family name. It is nothing to do with trump. He even said he is not sure if you like that but it is a tradition. There you go, teddy baron murray. It is 37 minutes past seven. The nhs would receive a funding boost of £26 billion pounds if labour wins the general election. The party says its rescue plan will recruit thousands of staff, rebuild crumbling facilities and provide modern state of the art equipment. Were joined from westminster by laboursjonathan ashworth. The government reset that funding settle m e nt the government reset that funding settlement so we are building upon that with around an extra 6 billion. It means an extra 6 billion but in catch cash terms, it is an extra £40 billion for the nhs and we think thatis £40 billion for the nhs and we think that is so vital when we have a 4. 5 Million People on waiting list. Over 600,000 people waiting beyond 18 weeks. Elderly people languishing on trolleys in corridors and young people denied their Mental Healthcare they desperately need. We think this rescue plan is urgent and needed to bring the waiting list down after yea rs needed to bring the waiting list down after years of tory cutbacks in our Health Service. Could we just be clear then, the extra money, the headline figure you have been talking about is 26 billion but actually, 20 billion was already announced by theresa may so you are talking about an extra. We match that. The reason i refer to cash terms is when you have the tories on your programme, they will terms is when you have the tories on yuf programme, they will be terms is when you have the tories on your programme, they will be using the cash terms figure. You shouldnt really use cash terms figures but so everybody has the facts, it is 40 billion on cash terms for our nhs. Because you are being clear with me about the figure, 40 billion, but how much of it is actually extra . About the figure, 40 billion, but how much of it is actually extra . M is over 6 billion on top of what the government announced last year which we are matching and we are going, we are going significantly further than that because when the government announced their plans, lots of Health Expert said that this isnt enough to really improve the quality of care because when you have so had so many years of cut acts, over 15,000 bed lot had so many years of cut acts, over 15,000 bed lot had lost under the tories, you are going to need more investment to bring those waiting lists down, to give our a es. It is disgraceful. This money is england only for w have mentioned various things but what is the most important from your point of view . That make you have mentioned. Festival, there is more money to improve performance was not after yea rs of improve performance was not after years of cuts and we have seen waiting lists got to 4. 5 million, many people waiting longer for treatment was not that is just i was just reading treatment was not that is just i wasjust reading a treatment was not that is just i was just reading a story about people in alton waiting for 12 months for treatment was not imagined waiting over 12 months of treatment, totally disgraceful. More money to bring waiting lists down and more money to give Mental Health services the biggest boost they have ever seen. I think we are facing a Mental Health crisis in this country. It is one of the biggest reasons for people taking time off work because of anxiety and depression, we have huge levels of antidepressants to prescribed in this country so were going to put Real Investment in Mental Health services to turn around and make sure everybody has the support they need. So many young people are turned away from getting support at the moment because the system is under such strain. And i just. The moment because the system is under such strain. And ijust. If imay. Under such strain. And ijust. If i may. Third area is more money to recruit more doctors and more nurses because we need more staff in our nhs as well. The conservatives are claiming that your plans will actually cost the nhs over 6 billion because of the extra funding because of your plans which you have talked about to introduce a four day week. What is your response to that . Hopeless nonsense from matt hancock. I laughed out loud, i couldnt believe how ridiculous it was. But you have announced plans for introducing a four day week, you are looking at that . In ten years time when we have raised politics in the economy and they will be a big review to see if weather changes around automation and things like that mean that workers across the year can reduce their hours, the idea it will be a four day week in the nhs on december the 13th was just nonsense. It was laughable, i couldnt believe it. I literally couldnt believe it. I literally could not believe it when that press release came out, we all laughed out loud in the office. Let us look at your plans then. You say you are going to look at these plans for a four day week. With the nhs in the future, you are saying it is in the future, you are saying it is in the future, be part of that plan . Know, there is not a four day bull week coming into the nhs was up were going to recruit more doctors was not 5000 more Family Doctors are so there are more gp appointments. Over 20,000 more nurses and midwives and health visitors. Big investment in Mental Health services, big investment in cancer services, more state of the art equipment so we can have a faster cancer diagnosis. What the tories are saying is absolute nonsense. Thank you for being clear but i just want to go nonsense. Thank you for being clear but ijust want to go back on that one point so the nhs is not part, right now, or not ever part of a four day week plan . Right now, or not ever part of a fourday week plan . No. So why then talk about a four day week when the nhs is not part of it . John mcdonnell want to see if there is ways in which in ten years time people s working hours can be reduced though there will be a commission and a review in ten years time looking at that. The idea that the nhs is going to go to a four day week on december the 13th if labour get in isjust. It isjust for the birds, it is nonsense. If labour get in on december the 13th, we will be bringing forward a rescue plan for the nhs, be putting more money into the nhs, be putting more money into the nhs, be putting more money into the nhs, so after years of cutbacks under the tories, we will be putting more money into recruiting more doctors, more nurses, rebuilding our crumbling hospitals, investing in state of the art equipment so we get better cancer care and bringing the waiting list down. That is what labour will do for the nhs. And finally on that plan for a four day week because it just finally on that plan for a four day week because itjust seems confusing to be talking about. I mean, that is part of the thing you are looking at but then you look at it but also ruling out large parts of the economy for example. What do you mean . So you are rolling it out being part of the nhs . John mcdonnell is setting up a commission for which in ten years time we can look at which look at ways in which people s average working week, we can change their working hours but the idea that the nhs is going to go to a four day week on friday december the 13th is just nonsense. Labour government will be put in place which will help the nhs waiting lists go down and get people the best cancer care and beth best Mental Health support they need. You have talked about funding and extra staff needed and we all know that nurses, doctors, they need training. This is going to take a lot of time. Where are you going to find them from as well . After years of cut backs, we are so desperately short of staff in the nhs and that is why we need to put money and now to start training more nurses, midwives, training more Family Doctors. That is what we will do. Yes, that will take time, but we have got to do it. We also need to allow the nhs to continue to recruit internationally. The tories are talking about putting in place essentially attacks on nurses who wa nt to essentially attacks on nurses who want to come and care for our sick and elderly from the eu. That is the last thing we should be doing, taxing nurses who want to come here from the eu to work in our nhs. We have got to have a better regime for International Recruitment as well. Fresh from singing a bit of dead or alive with rylan, you told us you couldnt sing alive with rylan, you told us you couldnt sing i cant, as you may just have witnessed rylan is such a superstar. He has been going for hours now, and he is doing so well, raising money for children in need. But i cant sing, so moving swiftly on. Today is a chilly start to the on. Today is a chilly start to the day if you havent ventured outside. We have a widespread frost across parts of scotland and also Northern England. Not only will it be a cold start, it will also be a cold day. Many of us starting off on a dry note. There are some scattered showers, but later on we do have some rain on the way. Now, yesterdays low pressure has moved away. We have a transient ridge of High Pressure, and this next area of low pressure with its attendant fronts is coming away later, bringing in that rain. A cold and frosty stars, a lot of clear skies around. Some sunshine to start the day, a peppering of showers more especially around our coastlines. Not many of them getting too far inland, and later we have the rain sweeping in from the south west across parts of southern Northern Ireland in through wales and also in through South West England. Now, wherever you see greens and yellows on the charts, that is where we are likely to see the heaviest bursts of rain. Temperature wise, 4 9, 11 in the channel islands, so a little bit below where we should be at this stage in november. Through this evening and overnight, our band of rain continues to come in. It pivots, so what it is going to do is bring rain across South West England, wales, the midlands, the london area and down towards kent. South of that there will be showers along the south coast and the channel islands. North of that, there will be one or two showers, some of those could be wintry on the hills. Under clear skies, with not much breeze across scotland and Northern England, we are looking at a widespread frost. More of a breeze across Northern Ireland, so you should avoid that. As you head on through tomorrow we have a weather front across southern england, and what it looks like it is going to do is pivot northwoods, joining forces with this other rain band. Again, there were greens in this colour band, so it means we could see some heavy bursts. The other thing is it is falling on areas where we have already had issues with flooding. But if this rain slides just a little bit further south, we could avoid that. The other thing i want to talk about tomorrow is gusty winds. The winds coming from a chilly direction, namely from the north or the north east, so that is really going to exacerbate the cool feel. And anyway, the temperatures are on the low side for this stage in november. We are looking at six in the to about eight as we pushed down to the south. Friday, our fronts which are in the south move a little bit further north, getting on towards parts of Northern England, heading down towards wales and the south west. To the back of that there will be a lot of cloud before there will be a lot of cloud before the next system comes in from the south east. Ahead of it, there will still be a fair bit of cloud at times for scotland and Northern Ireland, but here you are more likely to see some brighter skies, and temperatures still in the low side, six to about eight. By saturday, we still have a system which has been coming in from the south east, draped across parts of england and east wales, weakening all the time. The rain and it will be lighter. Behind it we could see some bright skies. Ahead of it, still a fair bit of cloud around, with limited brightness, and temperatures by then 10 degrees in plymouth but only six in aberdeen and lerwick. Thank you, carol. We cant let you get cant let you and lerwick. Thank you, carol. We cant let you get away with just one appearance on bbc breakfast, singing live. This is Carol Kirkwood spending a bit of you spin me round. The figure is nearly £350,000 already, and you we re is nearly £350,000 already, and you were brilliant. Magnificent work, carol. Just keep thinking, it was for charity, it is for charity, and a are very Worthy Charity at that, children in need. will try not to let us play it again for you. I will do my best. will try not to let us play it again for you. I will do my best. I think ryla n for you. I will do my best. I think rylan has another hour and a half to go. Apparently he was just drinking honey yesterday to try and coat the vocal cords. Royal mail workers voted overwhelmingly for strike action last month. Today we find out if the ballot was legal, and if the walkout is still going ahead. Ben has got more. Potentially really significant, isnt it . Yes, we will find out later if it is going ahead. It would be the First National postal workers strike in a decade, but it could also disrupt the royal mail at the busiest time of the year black friday and the run up to christmas, plus there is the election, and all those flyers, adverts and postal votes. So what is the strike about . Royal mail and the Communication Workers Union agreed a pay rise and new pension arrangements last year, but the union says the deal isnt being honoured. Royal mail disagrees, but the firm itself is undergoing a radical shakeup. Royal mail wants to shift the focus from letters to parcels and its parcelforce business. That is where the growth is, given that we are sending fewer letters but ordering more online. But the union is worried this could split the firm in two, and they are also concerned by new technology. Tracking devices help us keep an eye on when our deliveries are due, but royal mail staff say they also let the firm spy on them. Royal mail disputes that, and so that led to a ballot of the 110,000 Union Members. 97. 1 backed a strike. That has got us to where we are today. So what happens today . The royal mail said they were very disappointed that the strike had been called, and applied for an injunction to stop it. Royal mail says some Union Members were forced to vote for the strike and describe the ballot as null and void. They are also worried about the impact on christmas deliveries. They have made their case to the court. So has the union. Today thejudge reveals his decision. Obviously there are a lot of ifs and buts in this, but what could it mean . The union hasnt announced dates for a strike yet, but any walkout could affect postal votes for the general election, and all the cards, letters and parcels we might be sending or receiving in the run up to christmas. There is concern about those deliveries. There is not much goodwill on either side. I dont think we will see either side back down. The union boss has previously told us the reasons for the strike are bigger than any disruption. We do need to have the maximum impact, but we are here to defend the service, and we have to take every opportunity. This is about the long term future of this industry. And you know, ive said before, we will do whatever it takes to defend the service and our members jobs. So there are no no go areas for us. Royal mail has said, if a strike does go ahead, they will still prioritise postal election material. Particularly postal votes, of course. Even so, if this case goes against the company today, we could be on track for one of the most significant walkouts in the recent history of the postal service. As we said, the first time in a decade it has happened. Clearly the timing of all of this is really bad, the union adamant they are in the right, royal mail adamant they are in the right. Still to come on breakfast matt damon and Christian Bale tell us about their new film, le mans 66, and the consequences of roles they have played, missed out on or turned down, including titanic. I dont think i came anywhere close to it. Oh, you went for it, though . Yeah. I think everybody did. I mean, you know, youve got to try to get work. Yeah. Theres nothing wrong with that. It would have been a different film. Thats another person who i only get roles because they passed on it. Who, leo . Thats the total truth. If he wants a role. I think every role that comes your way probably has someone elses fingerprints on it, at some point, you know what i mean . Just me, particularly. Youre not talking about actors in general, just me. Well, titanic was james cameron, and the interesting one thats made headlines recently is the fact. Avatar. Absolutely, yeah. You were offered 10 . Do you know, people have now done the maths . 250 million. That would come in handy. I do like the fact that i am allowed to say with pride i am the dumbest actor of all time. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. All good on the tubes so far this morning. But in northolt, it is slow just off the a40 around the polish war memorial roundabout. It is because of temporary traffic lights on west end road for water works. In bricket wood, the roundabout at the a405 north orbital road is closed because of a diesel spillage, with no access to or from the m25 clockwise. And borough high street is closed for emergency repairs to a burst watermain. Bus routes are on diversion. More details in 15 minutes. Its wednesday 13th november. Our top story. The formerjustice secretary, david gauke, has launched a blistering attack on the conservative party, saying a tory majority in the general election would be bad for the country. Our Political CorrespondentJonathan Blake joins us from westminster. There has been reaction to his comments already, we will speak to him later, but we have spoken to michael gove who says he respect him, he is a friend, but. Yes, david gauke, one of the former cabinet ministers, former conservative mps thrown out of the party a few months ago by Boris Johnson for voting in favour of keeping the option of a no deal brexit of the table. He has confirmed that he will stand as an independent mp, turning his back on the party and describing a conservative majority is wrong for the country. He will encourage people to vote for liberal democrats and other candidates to try and stop the tories winning a majority and getting into government. He says borisjohnson has boxed himself in with his brexit deal and the implementation period running up until the end of 2020 will not be long enough to negotiate a free trade deal with the european we have heard from michael gove this morning who has said that whilst he has a great deal of respect for david gauke, on this issue, he is wrong. I think on this issue, he has it precisely wrong. The only way in which we can get brexit done and move on with the peoples priorities, investment in the nhs, policing and education is making sure we have a majority functioning government. We will be speaking to david gauke at 8 30am to get his response to that. Labour has been outlining plans for the nhs and talking about a four day working week . Labours focuses on the Health Service today, they say they will match what the government has promised to increase the nhs budget in england by, by 2023, and add a further £6 billion worth of funding. The party says it is needed to cut waiting times and add more gp training places, and improve Mental Health services for young people. The conservatives have come back saying, if you factor in labours plans for a shorter working week, this money will not amount to an increase because extra staff will be needed, that was denied byjohn ashworth, the Shadow Health secretary, earlier on. That is nonsense , secretary, earlier on. That is nonsense, what the tories are saying is nonsense. Thank you for being clear, i want to go back in at one point, the nhs is not part right now or not ever part of a four day week plan . No. The partys plans for the nhs will form a main Battle Ground of the Election Campaign in the coming weeks, expect big promises and big amounts of money when we see the parties manifesto in the next week or so. The Prime Minister will bring it back to brexit later on, or try to at least, and a ram home his co re try to at least, and a ram home his core message, talking about attempting to end the brexit groundhoggery. Promises coming thick and fast in the Election Campaign with a month to go. 100 soldiers will be deployed to South Yorkshire today to help the recovery effort in areas hit by flooding. The government has announced a support package including compensation for small and medium sized businesses which arent covered by insurance. It follows the evacuation of more than 1000 properties. Earlier, lincolnshire farmer henry ward told us he probably wont be able to plant crops for at least a year. Were expected to just stand the cost of this on the chin and be used as a free of charge flood plain and the devastation its caused to not only financial to us, farmers, losing harvest and crops, all the rest of it, but to the wildlife, to the soil, contaminated soil now, all our ditches and drains are going to be filled up with silt, its just absolutely horrendous. Meanwhile, the italian city of venice has also been hit by severe flooding after the highest tide in more than 50 years. Saint marks square was under a metre of water last night. Tourists were seen wading through waterlogged streets. The mayor warned the floods would leave permanent damage to the city. Authorities in australia have warned that massive bushfires raging in two states will continue to pose a threat, despite conditions easing. You will see full coverage of that on the bbc news channel throughout the day as well. One thing which lots of people have been talking about today is a story covered in the daily mail, about a city worker who has been fined £1500 for having a go at somebody who was eating a boiled egg on a train. That was it 6am. This is opened up the debate about acceptable train food, people saying crisps should be banned. You cant ban crisps on a train, may be in the theatre they are noisy and they smell. Any sort of fish based items have been, too smelly for a packed train. Thats a lot of an aggressive tirade, that is what they went for, that led to that fine. I thought an egg would be ok. Down on one. Its all right. Lets have a look at that picture. It looks like an american. I dont know why i say american, but like an american train station, its very impressive but it is rod stewarts 124 foot Model Railway. Apparently inspired by a view from his childhood home, he loves his ra i lwa ys childhood home, he loves his railways and his very particular about it. Thats the dream still plenty to come on the dream still plenty to come on the programme this morning. After 14 year old Molly Russell took her own life, herfather, ian, made headlines around the world when he spoke out about her death and lobbied instagram to remove harmful content. Hes travelled to the us to learn more about a Texting Service which connects people in crisis with volunteer counsellors. The project has now launched in the uk and its won the support of the duke and duchess of cambridge. Angus crawford reports. Helping young people, improving Mental Health. Ajoint mission for the duke and duchess of cambridge, one shared by ian russell, whose daughter molly took her own life two years ago, here meeting at an event for the charity shout. But what is shout . It connects volunteer counsellors with people in crisis, all by text, across the uk. Launched six months ago, it has trained 1,500 volunteers, who have had 145,000 conversations with people in crisis. Thats six million texts. And this is where it all began new york. Recently, ian russell came to meet the services founder. Here, it is called crisis text line. I would love to be put out of business. My dream im not for profit. Crisis text line, we are not for profit, we are an ngo, we are for the public good. My dream would be to go out of business some day because people dont need us any more. Right now, im unfortunately in a Growth Business. Pain pain seems to be a Growth Business in both of our countries. Well, theres a lot of you, its fantastic. From the prince in london, a very important message. Thank you to all of you, all the volunteers. You are all wonderful and we are very proud of you. Thank you. And for ian, a chance to ask questions. Its shocking how many people are so young and having really hard Mental Health problems, like suicidal feelings. And people who are, like, 12 its just crazy how young it is. Have you talk to someone as young as. Yes, ive had some. Those are the hardest ones, i think. Sometimes there are texts which say thank you so much for being there and listening, because there was no one else to talk to at that point, and that is an incredibly rewarding experience. Well, i get nervous before every shift. But to me, that just shows that i actually am caring about what im about to do. It has certainly crossed my mind to think that, had shout existed, instead of turning to the dark places of the internet, molly may well have reached out to shout, and you never know, she may still be with us today. So theres an element of sadness. But you have to say, there is an element of positivity, as well, because this is here now, and it is helping people. Wave it all around, yay harnessing the power of people who want to do good for those who need it most. If youve been affected by any of the issues covered in that report and would like details of organisations which offer advice and support, go online to bbc. Co. Uk actionline or you can call for free, at any time, to hear recorded information on 0800 066 066. The Prime Minister has promised £2,500 to businesses and £500 to households affected by flooding, after chairing an emergency cobra meeting yesterday. But how will that help residents in the heavily flooded village of fishla ke . Around 700 people there were told to evacuate over the weekend after several threat to life flood warnings were issued for the river don, as ian white reports. This is why the police have closed the roads into fishlake. You wouldnt want to take your car down here. There is only one way to get around fishlake to see what has happened to this place and that is in a tractor, thanks to amy for taking us round. This road really is like a river and i do not exaggerate. Just look how deep the water is. And look at all the devastation to all the properties nearby. At one roadblock, it was a chance for local people to discuss their plight. Everything from sandbags to getting hold of waders. Its got that bad, weve had to go and try and find some waders because weve been waist deep in water. People are getting a bit angry and a bit emotional. And a bit upset. And then people try and realise, theyre trying to get on with their lives, how difficult it is. Pam webb has lost her home and her business to the floods, and her insurance wont pay out. If this isnt a national emergency, when fire crews and other Emergency Services say this is unprecedented, to what they have responded to, what im absolutely going to gun for is who is responsible for this. Because why did it happen, how did it happen . It should never have happened in my opinion. The situation here remains an emergency. With water levelling out and spreading to other properties and roads. Ian white, bbc news, fishlake. That gives you a really clear picture of conditions there. Tim is in ka ry oke this morning. You see those pictures of what residents have been going tim is in fishlake this morning. What have people been going through this morning . Talking about communities coming together, they are certainly doing that, look at the donations, clothes, blankets, food, cleaning products, all brought to St Cuthberts Church in fishlake, the communities coming together but it is still hugely affected, this village. Many houses still flooded. Peter is the churchwarden, how hard has been for the community . Extraordinarily hard, devastating, the village in one sense, part of it is trashed, you could say. Some houses were 0k is trashed, you could say. Some houses were ok but the majority were very severely damaged. Your heart goes out to these people as they come back to see their homes and see the level of damage. Its going to bea the level of damage. Its going to be a very difficult day for many. Do you feel neglected and abandoned by the authorities . There is a report around that the authorities abandoned us. To put it into context, there was very little the authorities could do with an overwhelming amount of rain which came ina overwhelming amount of rain which came in a very short amount of time. More can always be done but we are very grateful for what has been done, we have seven pumps around this, another two coming into operation shortly, the situation is gradually coming under control. We need more than anything else from all of the authorities, more and good mobile phone signal so we can coordinate the relief effort. Thank you so much and best of luck with the effort. Grant, you are basically stuck in your house for three days . Yes, three days and three nights. I heard a commotion at about 9 30pm, 10 30pm, and i heard a commotion at about 9 30pm, 10 30pm, and i could see the water rushing in. We could just get as much as we could upstairs and we we re as much as we could upstairs and we were stranded upstairs the three days and three nights, no electricity and no way of anybody communicating with us. We managed to wade out and got to the church to get a couple of bags of food and water and i dont know what we would have done 5 it hadnt have people out ile out of the been bringing in things, out of the goodness of their hearts, they havent had any wages for it. They havent had any wages for it. They have even been doing medicine runs for the people needing have even been doing medicine runs forthe people needing medicine. From what i have heard Doncaster Council have said they cannot come in because there is a threat to life, but other people have made it in like these Charity Organisations that have come in to help people. I think we have been let down a little bit by Doncaster Council, to be honest. So you know have power back on your house and there was a subsiding . Yes, its definitely dropped. The worry is that on thursday there is due to be a lot more rain. We have never had a flood here for 100 years. Local farmland has been flooded like everywhere else. I think there will be some questions that need to be answered, why they have improved the flood defences are fed up the river at sheffield and left us wide open, it has forced the water to come down here and flood us. Somebody needs to be held accountable. Thank you so much, we appreciate you coming in this morning best of luck and i hope the house gets dried out. Appreciate it. The number of donations it is extraordinary but many people here wa nt extraordinary but many people here want questions answered when the water does subside, but more rain is forecast in the coming days. Thank you, tim. It has been a horrible few days but its amazing seeing people come together. Looking at the pictures they didnt even have time to to take their cars at. Carol now has the weather. Its cold out. Yes, it is cold and frosty, but not just Northern England has frosts. Scotla nd just Northern England has frosts. Scotland has as well and tipped to solo this morning. Many of us have beautiful and temperatures are low this morning. Many of us have got a beautiful start but there will be some rain coming in. Dry where thing, showers scattered around coastline, a few
