As things are going to turn colder. Low pressure in charge at the moment, you can see low pressure in charge at the moment, you can see areas low pressure in charge at the moment, you can see areas of cloud spiralling around it, those lumps of cloud bringing showers or longer spells of rain, as you can see from the radar picture the quite widely scattered across many parts of the uk, not too many across the midlands, east anglia, expect a fair amount of dry weather through here and sunshine this afternoon. For eastern scotland some persistent rain piling in, we could see travel problems, perhaps even localised flooding and that rain in scotland being blown in on a brisk east or north east breeze, breezy for western coast as well, lighter winds further east and temperature wise this afternoon we are looking at highs of 10 13d. This evening and overnight the showers continue in many areas, tending to become fewer and further between as the night wears on and this persistent rain across eastern scotland sinks into northern england, tending to ease away to some extent. Temperatures through the night six or 7 degrees, not especially cold and not as cold as some not especially cold and not as cold as some of the nights we will see later this week. As we go through tomorrow the area of low pressure at sliding away eastwards, follow the white lines, up to the north, that shows where the air will be coming from, we start to tap into some colder air which is pushing down all the way from the arctic. As we go through tomorrow a bit of a split in fortunes, across england and wales often cloudy, rain increasing confined to central and eastern parts, more sunshine per Northern Ireland and scotland, some showers, showers could be wintry over the highest ground of scotland because as you see, the temperatures by tomorrow afternoon eight or 9 degrees at best. As we go through tuesday night watch the colour drain from the map, cold spots the countryside could well get to freezing or below, you might be starting wednesday morning with some frost, a fair amount of brightness and sunshine around through the morning but as you see, here comes the next area of low pressure. Outbreaks of rain pushing from the west, is that bumps into the cold airover west, is that bumps into the cold air over the highest hills of the pennines to be scotland could see wintry nyssa mixing in, chilly day on wednesday, 6 iod at best. Heading towards the end of the week, temperatures not recovering, more outbreaks of rain but not all the time. Thank you. A reminder of our top story. Health leaders in england warn politicians not to use the nhs as a political weapon during the election thats all from the bbc news at, so its goodbye from me, and on bbc one we nowjoin the bbcs news teams where you are. Have a very good afternoon. Good afternoon. Im ben crouche with the latest from the bbc sport centre. Lewis hamilton says hes struggling to comprehend the possibilty of matching Michael Schumachers all time record of f1 titles. Its after the briton won his sixth driver championship at the us grand prix now one behind schumachers all time record of seven. The likes of nico rosberg, Nigel Mansell and Jackie Stewart have all congratulated hamilton, whilst the man himself was quick to praise his Mercedes Team with whom hes won five of his six world titles. It has been, i think, the toughest championship that we have had to try and win. You also have to remember, we won the championship last year. It is not easy to stay in the league, it is not easy to stay hungry and try and raise the bar that you have created as a team. Raising the bar yourself, usually someone else does it, if you look at the olympics, someone else raises the bar in terms of a time, and someone else knows what to target. We are creating our own new targets each year and that is a really hard thing for us to do. Some, like former red bull driver mark webber, have called on hamilton to be knighted. Jolyon palmer spent the best part of two seasons racing against hamilton and feels hes still not as widely revered as he should be. He has almost been too dominant this year to get the plaudits he should get. If he won it with a dramatic race in the abu dhabi finale, he would get a lot more praise than he actually gets from winning races early on and winning it with two races to go. It has become a bit boring to the outsider, that is just how good he is. It is a tough one for him, but this year, number six, next year, number seven, tying with Michael Schumacher for the all time greatest achievement. That is the one that will be a big one in 12 months. After breaking his ankle during evertons 1 1 draw with tottenham in the premier league yesterday, andrew gomes is due to undergo surgery today. He was stretchered off midway throuh the first half, and even though cenk tosen scored a stoppage time equaliser at goodison park for everton cancelling out dele allis opener the incident had clearly affected the majority of players at the full time whistle. Gomes manager marco silva has backed him to come back stronger. Shame on you was the response from Mario Balotelli on social media after being the target of racist abuse during a top flight match in italy yesterday. The former liverpool and Manchester City striker threatened to walk of the pitch after kicking the ball into the stands in anger at his treatment whilst playing for brescia against hellas verona. As per uefa protocal, the referee stopped play. After being persuaded to play on, balotelli scored a consolation in brescias 2 1 defeat. Hes out with englands t20 squad in new zealand at the minute but dawid malan will return to the country as a yorkshire player. Hes ended a 13 year year spell at middlesex, having stood down as captain at the end of the summer with the team third bottom of the county Championship Division two. The batsman says hes excited by the prospect of joining another great club. After falling short in the Rugby World Cup final on saturday, england have landed back in the country in the last few minutes at heathrow airport. We will shortly see them coming into the country. We will hopefully bring you those pictures on bbc news very shortly. Thats all the sport for now. You can find more on all those stories on the bbc sport website including detailed reaction and analysis to Lewis Hamiltons world championship. Thats bbc. Co. Uk sport. More in afternoon live after 2pm with jane dougall. Thank you very much indeed. More now on Health Bosses warning politicians to not use the nhs as a political weapon during the general Election Campaign. Nhs providers has urged the main parties to not make empty promises over future funding for the health service. Chris hopson is the ceo of nhs providers, and he spoke to the bbc earlier about the kind of promises they are talking about. I know both the secretary of state for health and the shadow sector of state for health, and they both want the best for the nhs, but when we get into the heat of general elections, all kinds of things can happen. Let me give you one example, this channel and the rest of the bbc for the last two or three years has been absolutely clear that we are facing a social care crisis. What happened in the 2015 general election . It all revolved around a death tax. In 2017, it all revolved around a dementia tax, and what we didnt have was a long term sustainable solution that we need for our social care system. I am saying that i think general election debates and campaigns provide the opportunity for an evidence based mature, sensible discussion about what the long term needs of our health and care service are, and that we really need to have a proper debate, rather than one thatjust skims across the top and is based on bash the other side with cheap slogans. That was the chief executive officer of nhs providers. The shadow chancellorjohn mcdonnell has been meeting nhs staff at unison hq in london today. He told reporters the nhs shouldnt be weaponised, after Health Services leaders warned politicial parties against doing just that during the general Election Campaign. Mr mcdonnell said we have to have an honest debate on the issue. Everything we do, i will make sure that we have the adequate Staffing Levels in the nhs, and that does me in welcoming nhs experts, medical experts here, medical providers here, rather than turning them away. That is the first thing. The second thing as well, we have to recognise that the Political Climate, some of the language that has been used by politicians has meant the Political Climate has meant some people now are being discriminated against and abused. We have to follow the advice of archbishop welby and say, let us now all be careful about the language that we use and stop dividing our country. We have to start uniting it again. On the issues around bursaries and others, we have made it very clear, we have a fully funded nhs, meaning we will restore the bursaries, so that people can access the training that they need, but more desperately, we need for them to have when they go into post. The conservatives have been repeatedly clear that the nhs is not for sale and is off the table in any trade deal with mr trump. Why shouldnt voters take them at their word . Listening to these nhs staff this morning, they do not trust that assurance and neither do i. We have had evidence before in the dispatches programme, the negotiations have been going on already to sell off our nhs to donald trump. None of us will let that happen and that is why it will be a key element of our labour policy that the nhs is not for sale, we will not enter into those trade deals. But of course, the nhs is made up of smaller contracts to keep the nhs going, for example, providing scanners and equipment, so there are trade deals that still continue to be done. How can we be clear, how can the public be clear that some of it is going to continue to be privatised, but the main ideology is not going to change . The key aspect for us is we believe that provision is best provided by the nhs itself. We will make sure that when those privatised contracts come to an end, that service will be brought back in house, it is a simple as that. But lets be absolutely clear, what was going on with regard to donald trump, it was the pharmaceutical companies from the us that were trying to charge us and rip us off in terms of the charges for the basic drugs that we need. The cost could have been 500 million a week. That is unacceptable and we will never allow that to happen under labour. Charlotte pickles is the director for the independent london based think tank, reform an independent body for Public Services. What do you make of this warning of the nhs being weaponised in the Election Campaign . Is that a sensible warning . Some people might say, actually, if there is a bidding war about how much the rival parties wa nt to war about how much the rival parties want to spend on the nhs, maybe that is not a bad thing for the nhs, they might end up with more money. |j think the word weapon isa slightly unhelpful here. We are in a Political Campaign and we would expect if each of the parties to lay out what they will be. We would expect them to be declaring investment protecting the nhs, we know how the public feels about the nhs, there is a deep love for it. I think the word weapon icing is unhelpful. When we heard in your clip earlier, where he is correct, we need to have a realistic conversation about what is possible, what the challenges are and what the opportunities are to improve the service that we get. We need to have a realistic conversation, you say, are you suggesting that what some of the Political Parties are saying is not realistic . I think perhaps some of what they are saying could be refined, lets put it that way. We just heard from the shadow chancellor there, he was saying about wanting to strip out the private sector from the nhs and wanting to prevent any level of privatisation, but privatisation is not on the table. If we were going to have a more realistic conversation, we might ask him whether he wants to nationalise gp surgeries or pharmacies or dentists, because of course, most of those are provided by private individuals who are indeed private sector entities. Equally, on the other side, when we have the Prime Minister stand up and say there will be a0 new hospitals, but actually, the funding is only available for six, i think we could be more realistic there. And as all of this because the nhs is so loved by the people of this country and it is such a high priority for voters. Again in an election after election, they put it right near the top of that their list of priorities. The parties know they need to address this issue. You are right, tracker after tracker shows that the nhs and health care more broadly is the number one priority. At the moment, it is number one behind brexit, but asa it is number one behind brexit, but as a domestic policy and Public Services policy, yes, it is the number one for people. That makes it very challenging for politicians, because if you are standing up asking for peoples votes, you need to make yourself as attractive as possible. That makes having this slightly more down to earth conversation about it is possible with the nhs more challenging, but of course, that is exactly why our politicians need to stand up and have that mature, down to earth debate about where the money will come from, actually, whether there isa come from, actually, whether there is a vital role for private third sector organisations within our nhs, rather than either throwing out splurging numbers, in terms of how much investment there can be, or quite frankly, a dogmatic approach to who can be involved in its delivery. Thank you, charlotte, for joining us. The leader of plaid cymru, adam price, says hes consulting his members about an Electoral Alliance with other remain supporting parties. Launching his party electon campaign, mr price said plaid was the party with the highest ambition for wales. In calling the third election in just four years, the westminster parties certainly have given the people the worst Christmas Present ever. Political culture that is more toxic than any time in our history, a poisoned chalice of a choice between two divided parties led by one leader who is resolutely dishonest on brexit and another who has sadly proven honestly clueless. And both of them, as we have seen in recent days, advised by public schoolboys who seem to see politics as some schoolboys who seem to see politics as some kind of pathological game. So lets not make this election about them, but about us. Not about their ambition for power, but our ambition for wales. Not about the fortu nes ambition for wales. Not about the fortunes of the westminster parties and leaders, but our peoples future, there are lives and their dreams. We are here launching the election, let this election be our bridge to that better future. We believe passionately that the brightest and best future for our country is as a prosperous, self confident and independent nation. More and more people are coming to that conclusion in wales, and who can blame them when you look at westminster and they push me, poolewe, labour conservative duopoly that have wales, ruined wales, generation after generation. Poole u. There has to be a better way to stop there is no party with a higher ambition for wales. There is no party who always puts the country first. There is no party who believes above all else that the solutions to our problems are in our hands. That pen so that we all held in a few short weeks could be the beginning of notjust a new politics, but a new wales, a new hope for all of us. It is us, the people of wales, that hold the key to our nations future. Europe, it is us. Transforming our economy, its us. A caring country, it is us. Ending poverty, hunger and homelessness, it is us. A healthier wales, a greener wales, a prosperous wales, a greener wales, a prosperous wales, a greener wales, a prosperous wales, a confident wales, an independent wales, it is us. And. Applause and yes, in a sense, it is us or them, the future of the past, a powerful sense, a new sense of self belief, or more of the same, the failed policies and failed politics of westminster. The people of wales and the party of wales united will be an unstoppably positive force that will change our country for good. A fuse that will light up even the dark nights of this election. That was the leader of plaid cymru, adam price. The headlines on bbc news Health Bosses warn politicians not to use the nhs as a political weapon in the general election, but say a bidding war has already begun. Motherca re announces plans to put its uk Retail Business into administration, putting around two and a half thousand jobs at risk. Mps will elect a new speaker of the house of commons today, following the retirement ofjohn bercow. Mcdonalds has fired its chief executive Steve Easterbrook after he had a relationship with an employee. Mr eastbrook was appointed chief executive of mcdonalds in 2015. According to the company, the relationship was consensual but it said that it violated company policy. Hes apologised for what he says was a mistake. Ruby dinsmore is an employment lawyer at the firm slater and gordon. She told my colleaguejoanna gosling that a decision like this is not that unusual. Ultimately, it comes down to the policy that was in place, that prohibited this type of relationship. And it is there for a number of reasons. This type of thing does comes up more and more, it has always come up, there has always been inappropriate relationships in the workplace. In the current climate, it has a bigger impact, and companies are very keen to be seen not only to have a policy managing this type of situation, but also to be seen to be enforcing it at all levels, so no one, effectively, you know, it applies to everyone. It sends a strong message when it is a person at the top breaching this policy. It also says a lot that he is breaching the policy in the first place, so it begs the question as to whether more needs to be done, rather than just policy. And then selectively applying it to people. There is a lot more to be done to educate people why these policies need to be put in place and also, the effect of if they do breach them, what they could potentially run the risk of being dismissed. Tell us more behind the reasoning of this policy is. There are a number of reasons. Some people may view them as being an invasion of privacy, that you can have a relationship with anyone if it is consensual and that should be accepted. But there is a balance with businesses that they have their own interests to protect as well. It may look like they are stepping into peoples private lives, it has an impact on business. During the relationship, there is the potential for conflict of interest if the person puts the relationship before the business interest, particularly if they are at a senior level. And after the relationship, if it ended on a sour note, there are also implications for the business, particularly where there is a potential risk afterwards of litigation or a claim for Sexual Harassment. How widespread are policies like this . Increasingly so. It has always been the case, a lot of firms have put in some kind of guidance on relationships at work. It is not always an outright ban, but sometimes there is a notification clause that says, if youre in a relationship, you need to let us know, and the company can take that into consideration and make sure it is not impacting on any decision making. In the last few years, we have to mention metoo, and a lot of businesses look at this type of situation, so more and more policies are being put into place and businesses are keen to be seen to be addressing the potential litigation, a litigation risk of metoo, but that there is a potential scope for Sexual Harassment and that there is a fine line between a consensual relationship and an inappropriate relationship, and it is the inappropriate relationships that a lot of companies are aware of and are trying to manage. That was the employment lawyer talking to joanna earlier. For the past three months, oil slicks have been washing up along the brazilian coastline, affecting more than 1200 miles of beaches. Now, the countrys president , jair bolsonaro, has said the worst is yet to come. Gareth barlow has more. Its become a familiar sight on brazils beaches, pristine sands tarnished by oil and tar. For months, workers and volunteers have removed tonnes of black sludge, and now the president is warning the worst is yet to come. Its painstaking work, but vital for the environment, and brazils tourist sector. The authorities suspect a greek tanker that sailed from venezuela is to blame. Translation oceanographic calculations of previous activity were made, and according to the modelling, it is believed that only one ship could have left that oil spill. On sunday, hundreds of people hugged the sea to show that brazils beaches are still open. The worry is there could be more oil about to wash ashore. Gareth barlow, bbc news. You may not have heard of it but saudi aramco is the worlds most profitable company. The state owned oil producer is to list its shares or float on the riyadh stock exchange, in what could be the worlds biggest initial public offering. Our Business Correspondent Katie Prescott reports. Saudi arabia produces a tenth of the worlds oil. Managing that makes this very Unusual Company the most profitable in the world. This flotation has been years in the pipeline. We are the leading company when it comes to energy. We have the highest number of reserves, very well managed reserves. We are one of the. When it comes to conventional production, we are a major player when it comes to gas. In terms of sharing it with the rest of the world and doing all of this analysis and comparison will be a positive outcome for the company and we are looking forward to that. The aim is to diversify the saudi economy away from a dependence on oil, and its changing aramcos image, previously shrouded in mystery. They recently made Financial Results public for the first time. Even divorced women will be able to buy shares. But attacks like these on the companys oil fields show the risks of investing in this volatile region, not to mention in fossil fuels as the world looks to renewables. While we probably havent hit peak oil yet, with the advent of electric cars, we will probably get to a period over the next few decades where oil use will start to come down. The big question now is how much the compa nys worth. Crown Prince Mohammed bin salman has said he believes it could be 2 trillion, double the value of apple. Now he just has to convince investors its worth the risk. Katie prescott, bbc news. Simon will be here from tpn. The defeated England Rugby team, sadly, are expected any minute now back in the uk, so we will have full coverage of that. Lets have a look at the weather first with louise. Most of us will be glad to see the back of october, it has been u nsettled. Back of october, it has been unsettled. But the start of november has been wet and windy so far, through the middle of the week, it will turn colder with drier interlude before more rain returns. For the time being, unsettled out there, low pressure in the driving seat and spiralling a bit like a catherine wheel around that low is several frontal systems producing rain. So far today, sunny spells and scattered showers across england and wales with more persistent rain in eastern scotland, leading to localised flooding. On top of that, some localised flooding. On top of that, some gusty wind across eastern scotla nd some gusty wind across eastern scotland as well, so for the rest of the afternoon, it does look as though the temperatures will sit around 10 12, 11 12 further south. That rain in scotland will drift its way across the borders and weaken as it pushes into north east england. Most of the showers elsewhere will die back towards exposed coasts. Fewer showers around, temperatures will hold up around 6 7, some clearer interludes in between. We are going to start off Tuesday Morning with bits and pieces of light rain around, but that area of low pressure i am pleased to say is easing away. That means this is a north easterly flow and it will turn a little colder from the north over the next few days. You will really notice the difference when youre out and about. We start on tuesday, still some outbreaks of light rain across north east england, stretching down through wales, the midlands, but weakening all the time. Behind it, clearerspells, some time. Behind it, clearerspells, some sunshine coming through, but still a northerly wind driving in some still a northerly wind driving in some showers on exposed coasts. Maybe some patchy fog, but elsewhere, the frost and fog will lift and we will see some decent spells of sunshine across eastern england.
