In the Rugby World Cup as they trail the springboks, 6 12 at half time. England prop Kyle Sinckler was taken off in the third minute with a head injury. England fans on the edge of their seats as their team tries to secure their first world cup victory since 2003. And here in tokyo, england fans and local supporters are worried. Eddie joness team down to south africa at half time in the world rugby cup final. The government halts fracking for gas in england until there is evidence the controversial process is safe. President trump ridicules former democratic president ial hopeful, beto orourke, saying his rival quit like a dog. And the travel show explores a hidden city, in the arabian desert, untouched for thousands of years. Thats in half an hour, here on bbc news. Good morning. Its half time in the Rugby World Cup final and england are trailing south africa by six points 12. Its been a tough first half for england who are hoping to win the tournament for the First Time Since 2003. Millions of people are following the game on radio and television, and pubs and rugby clubs around the country have opened early. Some lucky fans have travelled to japan for the game spending to japan for the game, spending thousands of pounds on flights, hotels and crucially match tickets. Wyre davies is injapan, with fans in tokyo, about 20 miles north of the International Stadium in yokohama. Half time, people are worried . Indeed, this is the official fan zonein indeed, this is the official fan zone in tokyo. To give you a flavour, it is sold out, and this is the capital, tokyo, and these mainly england fans are rugby mad but very worried at the minute. Everybody knew it would be a war of attrition. Two massive packs of forwards against each other and as you said, the prop forward Kyle Sinckler went off as early as the third minute after getting a concussion in an attempted tackle. Two more injuries for the south africans. There have been uncharacteristic mistakes by many england players. George ford has made mistakes and knock ons from in may. South africa have missed a penalty goal. 12 6 at half time. And even though they are making good noise here, the england fans, mainly england fans here, are very worried indeed. What about the japanese fans . Are they coming down on one side or the other . Yes, they are mainly england fans, they are mainly japanese fans. This has been a successful world cup injapan. They followed their own team until being knocked out in the quarterfinals but most of these fans, some of them have st george flags. They are largely supporting england. England is managed by eddiejones and he used to be the manager ofjapan and isa used to be the manager ofjapan and is a popularfigure injapan. Particularly in tokyo. Everybody here is backing england. At the minute, the game is not going englands way. Thanks. John watson is in the bbc sport centre and can bring us up to date. Bring it up to date on the match itself. We knew it would be a tough contest between the sides and so it has proved. South africa have taken a stranglehold in the first half but it has come down to the boot of pollard, four penalties giving south africa the advantage and they have dominated the set piece, the scrum and line out, which has been strong so and line out, which has been strong so farfor and line out, which has been strong so far for england. South africa have dominated that. Eddiejones will have an important torque to make at half time to get england back into the match. If they are to win the world cup they will have to do what no other team has managed before, come from behind at half time to win the contest. We know how good south africa are and it was interesting to hear what Warren Gatland said in the lead up, saying england might have peaked too soonin saying england might have peaked too soon in the match against new zealand. Eddie jones dismiss soon in the match against new zealand. Eddiejones dismiss that and said to Warren Gatland, you enjoy the third place play off. It will be a concern how south africa have suffocated the life out of england, limiting too few opportunities. And the expansive by opportunities. And the expansive rugby they have played, they have been strong and controlled in every area, but they have not demonstrated the free flowing rugby and the strong and dominant set piece that has underpinned that. South africa have dominated those this time. The next a0 minutes crucial for england and interesting to see what eddie jones will say, as well as the captain, 0wen farrell. We have heard about the staring team torquay would have given. He will have to gather his Team Together now. It is a game plan that might need to be adjusted because south africa have been dominant in the first half. And a huge amount of pressure on the players. How much of it is a question of nerves and keeping your head . Interesting to hear eddiejones. All week he has said it is just another game. That is trying to instill a relaxed nature among players. But they will be aware they have not reached a World Cup Final since 2007 and a lot has been made of trying to emulate the achievements of that tea m emulate the achievements of that team in 2003. The likes of anthony watson, george ford, they have used a psychologist through the tournament to work on the mental side of the game. As well as the physical side. Because that plays a big part, certainly when it comes down to decisive moments, a World Cup Final. You could be the best professional, best player of your generation, but you may never get the chance to represent your country ina the chance to represent your country in a world cup. For many it could be a first World Cup Final, it could be a first World Cup Final, it could be a last. They know it will be a crucial a0 minutes ahead of them. I am sure nerves are playing a part but the way eddiejones has really led the team throughout the tournament has been exceptional. No stone unturned. Worth pointing out the team with 20 minutes late to the stadium this morning and you wonder if that had an impact. This is something eddiejones if that had an impact. This is something eddie jones has if that had an impact. This is something eddiejones has prepared the team for. He has been known to turn up late for Team Meetings to keep the team on their toes, so he will hope the preparations of the past four years will help get the tea m past four years will help get the team over the line. They will need to do something. When eddiejones took over he said he wanted to change the lives of players. They say they are one much from doing that. They will have to do it the ha rd that. They will have to do it the hard way and come from behind against south africa, who have won this trophy twice before. You were saying how difficult it is to come from behind after half time. Is that just to come from behind after half time. Is thatjust historically always difficult . No team has ever come back to win a Rugby World Cup having trailed at half time in the final. Worth pointing out, no team in the history of the tournament has ever lost a pool game and gone on to win the world cup so south africa will have to do that this time around in light of the defeat against new zealand in the group stage. They also will have to do it the hard way, as will england. That significant advantage, and they will be boosted by the fact they have managed to stifle the england game plan and the penalties from pollard making all the difference. The teams arejust making all the difference. The teams are just returning making all the difference. The teams arejust returning for making all the difference. The teams are just returning for the second half and interesting to see how england will come out. They will wa nt to england will come out. They will want to start strongly because they will not want south africa eking out any more points and putting further daylight between the teams because the more points on the board, the scoreboard pressure can really tell, especially when you consider the players, in such a physical contest, will tire in the latter stages of the match. Those substitutes, finishes as eddiejones calls them, will play a crucial part in the second half. But england with plenty of work to do. Thanks. 0ur correspondent milton nkosi is with south africa fans in johannesburg. How is it there . Are they feeling optimistic . Yes, listen to this. These crowds are feeling and not just optimistic, they are bullish. They think the springboks will win this world cup. They believe the 12 year cycle superstition is in the air. The springboks won the world cup twice, in 1995, air. The springboks won the world cup twice, in1995, 12 years air. The springboks won the world cup twice, in 1995, 12 years later, they won it in 2007. And guess what . It is 12 years later again. They are hoping history will repeat itself. I am joined by nadia, what are your feelings . We are definitely in the lead, we are going to win. We are wearing green and gold. We are going to win the world cup. We are going to win the world cup. We are going to take it we are totally bringing it home. Everyone is out supporting the boys. Big up to our president who is there, giving support today. We need to bring this cutback. I have this from 2007, 2015, and i will take another t shirt for 2019. We are bringing it back. Fantastic. Fantastic. Do you want to tell us what do you think, since you have just walked into the shot, what do you think about the squad today . Good, so far. What do you think will be the result . South africa has this. Prediction . I have no idea. Thank you very much. Well, that is the mood. This man illustrates what is going on here. South africans are confident they will win this and there is a story behind the south african captain who comes from a humble background and in 2007, he watched the final in a tavern because his home did not have a television. Today his father is in japan, flying out from the country for the first time. It looks great where you are. We will be back to you soon. Lets cross to harpenden rugby club. Chi chi izundu is there. What is the mood there . I am hoping you get to hear me because as you can see, quite a number of fans have packed out the rugby club. Four of the 31 players trained here at this clu b the 31 players trained here at this club and they have packed out the clu b to club and they have packed out the club to watch england play this final match. They are hoping england do them justice and take home the world cup. Hopefully, you can still hear me. There is a lot of hope. You just missed everybody erupting in swing low, what the fans like to sing when they are on tour. You can see how excited fans are to be here at the club. Thanks very much. Very noisy where you are but thanks for trying in harpenden. England suffered an early blow when prop Kyle Sinckler was stretchered off after just three minutes with a suspected head injury. He credits much of his success to a teacher who helped him set up a school team and realise his ambition. And that teacher, anastasia long, joins us now from salford. It must have been painful watching the first few minutes. It was awful, really ha rd to the first few minutes. It was awful, really hard to see. It is a gusting end to a players world cup at whatever stage in the tournament but to happen in the first minutes of the final, he will be devastated. He managed to walk off the pitch himself which was a massive relief i am sure. It is a good sign but u nfortu nately, am sure. It is a good sign but unfortunately, the position of his arms when it happened showed he was clearly knocked out which means he will not return to the field so it was obvious it was his world cup over. How much of these serious injuries are a worry to players and family . I know from watching my children play, it is one thing pa rents a re children play, it is one thing parents are terrified of. Rugby is leading the way in sport in terms of management of players and certainly age group level. The laws of the game are varied. The level of contact they do and management and the way the game is refereed is adapted so it is a progression into the sport. There is a lot of Research Going in to protect the players so now more than ever is probably one of the safest times for people to be involved in rugby because of the awareness and knowledge of coaches and match officials and people involved in the game is at the highest level. I think in contrast it is probably the safest ti me think in contrast it is probably the safest time to play the sport now. How much preparation with Kyle Sinckler and other players have put into this . Really upsetting for him to have to come off, but still an honour to be chosen . Absolutely. It is shown in englands performance, how pivotal a player he is. The rest of the team will be gutted he had to come off so early. It shows a lot of unseen work he used to do on the pitch. I hope they can settle and play well in the second half but he will be devastated to be watching from the sidelines. You obviously know him. What singles out someone like him to get to a national final, international final. What does it take . Because he has not had a conventional route into rugby and not necessarily had the same upbringing and education in terms of by upbringing and education in terms of rugby as other players, i think he has developed a resilience and determination. Those attributes are things coaches look to develop in players. He has probably had to develop those more by default than design. I think they have stood him in good stead and that is probably why as the pressure builds, he seems to flourish and grow and prove to the world on the biggest stage what he is capable of. Lets hope he will have another shot in future. Your prediction . What will happen . I still have to go england. I am a massive england fan. I do not know what the score will be but i hope they get the result they deserve because they have been phenomenal this tournament. Thank you. Enjoy the game. The headlines on bbc news. England under pressure against south africa in the Rugby World Cup as they trail the springboks, 6 12. The government halts fracking for gas in england until there is evidence the controversial process is safe. President trump ridicules former democratic president ial hopeful, beto 0rourke, saying his rival quit like a dog. More on the rugby. People are watching everywhere, in pubs and by watching everywhere, in pubs and rugby clubs. Leigh milner is in a pub in london. People are nervous at the moment . I did not think i have ever been to a pub so early in my life, but it is the Rugby World Cup and as you can see, it is rammed full of rugby fans at the pub near 0xford see, it is rammed full of rugby fans at the pub near oxford circus. Unsurprisingly we have more england shirts. I have yet to see a south africa fan but what we do have is an entire table of kiwis. 0ver africa fan but what we do have is an entire table of kiwis. The last time we played south africa we won 1211. Anything could happen. Absolutely. Thanks. The government has called a halt to shale gas extraction, known as fracking, in england amid fears about earthquakes. The decision marks a significant change in policy. Heres our Business Correspondent katie prescott. Fracking is the extraction of gas from rocks using High Pressure water and chemicals. Its supporters say it is a free flowing and home grown source of energy that would cut our gas imports and our carbon emissions. But it has proved to be highly controversial. They had to stop it following an earthquake in lancashire in august, and now the oil and Gas Authority says it is not safe and Companies Must halt their activity, but with one important caveat unless and until further evidence is provided that it can be carried out safely. Theres no doubt that extracting more natural gas in the United Kingdom would be very attractive. But weve always been clear, we can only do that if it can be done safely. And on the advice from the oil and Gas Authority, were no longer convinced that thats the case. But we will follow the science. So, in future, should the ability to be certain about seismic events, and so on, we will look at it again. Frackings industry body says. Environmental campaigners are relieved by the news, but this isnt the first time that fracking has been suspended. It was stopped after earthquakes in 2011, and the door is still ajar for activity to begin again in the future. Im joined now by the green partys co leaderjonathan bartley. A welcome move from the government . The ban should be for life notjust for christmas. It is a moratorium and welcome, after ten years of hard campaigning, and a tribute to people who have been out in all weathers protesting. What we need to see is a commitment from the government never to bring it back. We need to think ita to bring it back. We need to think it a new way about gas, heating. We need to see a Green New Deal which decarbonise is the heat supply. Lets get boilers out of homes and replace with ground source heat pumps and have massive investment in cutting gas demands. That will solve problems, not waiting to see if fracking can be saved. That is a huge change and there is an imperative for it but without fracking, we are looking at importing huge levels of supplies and given the global situation, is that a danger . The real danger has been the fracking fantasy the government has pursued for ten yea rs, government has pursued for ten years, while there is an inertia around dealing with boilers in our homes. We need to deal with demand and super insulated homes, cutback gas demand, and start the programme of stripping out gas boilers and make it possible to get low cost clea n make it possible to get low Cost Clean Energy into every house the uk. We only have until 2030. The government target is 2050, which is too long. We need to get to net zero by2030 too long. We need to get to net zero by 2030 which means we should start the action now. If those longterm changes are more difficult politically to drive through, what are your alternative means of delivering clean energy . We have to have the Green New Deal, massive investment in renewables. 0ne foundation estimates we could get over six times the electricity demand from offshore sources. We have seen tidal lagoons in the west coast, six can provide as much power as hinckley which will not come online for years. It will lock us into a terrible deal for years so we need the Renewable Energy revolution at the same time cutting gas demand. How much is it about ahead of election, the conservative party positioning themselves. All the other parties have said a ban should happen and this is a temporary pause. There does need to be abandoned. You have to be realistic about the timing. A small number of fracking sites tend to be in marginal constituencies. Places like the one shown in your package. Tories are worried. It is unpopular. In terms of public opinion, the more people learn about it the less they like it. The government is announcing this at an opportune moment but we need to see a clear commitment by the government to ban it now and for ever. Would it not be a wise use of public money to invest more in working out a safer way of delivering fracking . That is a fa ntasy. Delivering fracking . That is a fantasy. Fossil fuels need to stay in the ground if we address the climate emergency. There is £10. 5 billion every year going into fossil fuel subsidies. We are also subsidising dirty fossil fuels. That needs to go and we need massive investment in Renewable Energy. We can export technology and become a world leader in renewables. Thank you. 30,000 people across the uk are being invited tojoin a new Citizens Assembly to consider how to tackle climate change. Invitation letters are being sent out on behalf of six commons select committees, which are working together on the project. The government has set a target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The former texas congressman beto 0rourke has dropped out of the us president ial race. 0n social media, he said his campaign for the Democratic Party nomination didnt have the means to go forward but he says hell work to ensure donald trump is defeated. The president used a profanity to describe his rival and said he quit like a dog. Disney is joining the world of tv streaming to challenge the likes of netflix. In his only uk interview, disneys boss bob iger has been speaking to the bbcs media editor, amol rajan. Earlier this year, the Avengers Endgame from Marvel Entertainment became the biggest grossing movie in history. 0k. Who here hasnt been to space . Marvel is part of a bigger media giant, the walt disney company, known as disney. Over the past 15 years, it has been on an acquisition spree under the leadership of bob iger. Mr iger, who considered a run for the us presidency, bought pixar animation off stevejobs, lucasfilm off star wars creator george lucas and, last year, in one of the biggest deals in media history, 21st century fox from Rupert Murdoch. Why do you think Rupert Murdoch wanted to sell . Well, i think the primary reason is that he looked at what was going on in the world of media, and all the disruption, and he didnt believe that the hand that they had was a strong as it needed to be. Its that simple, and he didnt have a solution. But what are the underlying trends reshaping the Media Industry which makes those sort of mega acquisitions necessary . Well, i think if you look at todays media landscape, whether you are in the uk or the united states, or in many other places in the world, first of all, it starts with content. Content is king. Quality stands really tall in a sea of choice. And then secondly, get content that is so valuable, so important, so loved by consumers, that theyll access it or buy it almost any way they possibly can. It was rival netflix that pioneered streaming, which allows you to watch what you want, when you want. In the time that ive been on the throne, what have i actually achieved . For the times, they are a changin. Apple tv launched in london yesterday, with hollywood starsjennifer aniston and Reese Witherspoon promoting its biggest production. This winter, several Technology Giants are launching their own streaming services. Disneys own service, disney , launches here next spring. I think netflix is a volume play with a lot of quality in it, and they created the market in the direct to consumer space with video. And we come in with a different play. Its much more branded, less volume, and theres plenty of room for us to occupy space as well, and not. I mean, it may to some extent be at their expense, but not necessarily. There may be room for people to have more than one subscription. 0n current evidence, that seems a safe bet. Amol rajan, bbc news. Doctors are urging revellers to stay safe this weekend ahead of planned fireworks displays celebrating bonfire night. It comes as new figures from nhs england show that, in the last year, there were almost 2,000 incidents of people going to a e because of fireworks related injuries. And its not just people being affected. The Charity Guide dogs has also conducted some research and says pet owners said their dogs were more scared of fireworks than being left alone or going to the vet. Lets get more on this then. Joining me live in the studio is dave kent who is from the charity. Bonfire night is a problem . A huge problem, not only for guide dog handlers but pet owners in general, with a proliferation of fireworks way before bonfire night itself. What happens with your dog during this fireworks often go on for days. Chadis this fireworks often go on for days. Chad is fairly robust and i am lucky but there are many dogs who are not robust and they do flinch and are fea rful of robust and they do flinch and are fearful of the noise and such. And so we are giving advice to guide dog handlers and pet owners in general to think about your dog is at this time of yearand to think about your dog is at this time of year and to build in contingencies to look after the dog. Things such as building a den for your dog, somewhere dark and quiet, where the dog can hide. Close your curtains. Put your tv up, put your favourite album on and turn it up. Anything to distract the dog from what is going on. Even in the home, they are still alarmed . Absolutely. Ever so loud noises, they are unnatural sounds for an animal and our dogs pick up on it. In the worst case scenario, a dog can be so fearful, it will never work again. For us, that represents a cost of £56,000 to train and care for the dog. For the blind person affected by firework, that can mean
