As saying that adding more ethanol to the uks fuel mix would cut carbon by as much as taking 700,000 cars off the roads. The same mps say that adding e10, a mixture of 10 ethanol with 90 petrol, could also boost the biofuel industry. And ending with arguably our favourite character on our phones emojis. Forbes points out that today is world emoji day. The paper says that apple has released 20 new emojis on occassion of the day, with more to follow in autumn. Many of you have been in touch about your favourite emojis or the fact that you dont like them at all. With me is michaela bergman, principal social specialist at the Asian Infrastructure investment bank. Lets get stuck in. You are based in beijing, but of course, you are a brit born and bred, and i guess you are keeping a close eye on this story from china, are you . Political wranglings in the uk. Im trying to explain it to people who are not british, that is even more complicated, because it is hard to explain what is going on. Many in the uk dont understand what is going on. We are trying our best to explain it day by day. The times is looking at the plans as they describe them on the part of Boris Johnson for an early general election. The times is saying he wa nts election. The times is saying he wants an early election, and he wa nts to ru n wants an early election, and he wants to run againstJeremy Corbyn because he thinks he will have an easier run. But it is a gamble, isnt it . Theresa may also made that gamble and lost her majority. She called a snap general election at a time when the conservatives were doing very well in the polls and it looked like it would be an easy election. And things changed from minute to minute, and it would be a gamble. It is about the tory party wanting to establish itself and keep itself in power. It would be a gamble, i think. And Jeremy Corbyn proved in a previous election that when it came to electioneering, campaigning, he is pretty good at it. He is, and there are some people that are just very fed up with the tory party because of what it has done to the country. And the times talks about the fact that those within the conservative party are getting ready for this. They are trying to get financially ready as well, because apparently the coffers within the conservative party have been running dry, amidst Tory Party Donors dismay about how the party has been or even the leadership, theresa may, has been handling brexit. They had a big fundraising dinner last night, as you say, trying to replenish the coffers. What it will do, time will tell. We are presuming that mrjohnson is going to be the leader. We will find out next week. We will. We will find out next week. We will. We will find out who will be the leader of the conservative party and therefore Prime Minister. The Prime Minister will not be an elect Prime Minister, as was theresa may, and many argue that actually they need the mandate ofan that actually they need the mandate of an election. That is the thinking, isnt it . That is the political ideology. Lets move onto the financial because right in the middle of its front page is the impact this is having on the value of the pound. A two year low on the mounting risk. It is mounting, but it has implications for people. People who are working here and sending money back home, it is less money. And what about people going on holiday in the uk. I dont think people, unless you are working in the finance world, people dont necessarily understand the impact of the fall of the sterling unless it hurts you personally. It is a reminder when you are going abroad and you see the difference. Yorketown does not go so far. And it has an impact on trade. Both positive and negative, it has an impact on tourism within the uk as well. It is good and bad. It depends where you are sitting, where you are and what you are doing. All of those i talk to in Financial Markets have said from the very beginning sterling has been the barometer. Stirling has been the way you measure sentiment about brexit. Not the ftse 100, because most measure sentiment about brexit. Not the ftse100, because most of those companies do their dealing in us dollars. Lets talk about ursula von der leyen, who will be the new European Commission president , the first woman in that role. Germanys defence minister. Your thoughts . have to say, she is not terribly well known, but she has obviously campaigned over these last ten days 01 so. Campaigned over these last ten days or so. I think she is perceived as a safe pair of hands, but it will be interesting to see how the commission changes. Having a woman there again, it may change, it is a different perspective. So it is very interesting. I mean, who knows . I dont think any of us really know. She is are seen as Angela Merkels right hand woman, has worked with her closely for many, many years. Quite controversial in her role as defence minister. She made some decisions which did not go down well within germany. Hugely well known within germany. Hugely well known within germany. Hugely well known within germany. It will be an interesting change and with her European Commission president , and possibly Christine Lagarde at the head of the European Central bank, it is increasing the diversity within the leadership. It is also interesting because she does come from the more centre right, and i think how that plays out. The greens not happy with her despite what she had to say in her promises and pledges about making the European Union as eco friendly as possible. This is a really interesting story about climate change. It says no brainer. I read this on my way into work, on the bbc news app, and i thought wow, this is quite a figure. Adding more ethanol to the uks fuel mix will cut carbon by as much as taking 700,000 cars off the road. And its a great interim solution. I think what is interesting also from this story is that there was a backlash because of the diesel scandal, so people who we re the diesel scandal, so people who were buying other cars went back to buying petrol. So we increased our carbon emissions. This should at least be an interim measure until we get battery cars. But it is interesting, because not much attention has been paid to this because of what is going on in the brexit debate. That is true, and thatis brexit debate. That is true, and that is what is argued in this article. The all Party Parliamentary group are saying this could be swiftly introduced. It is not difficult at all and it was really boost the biofuel industry. And it will have a real impact on something thatis will have a real impact on something that is very important. And are you afan of that is very important. And are you a fan of emojis . Do you use them . am 0k at smileys, but i dont use the full range. I love them, i must admiti the full range. I love them, i must admit i love them. My 80 year old dad has just admit i love them. My 80 year old dad hasjust figured out admit i love them. My 80 year old dad has just figured out how to use emojis. They can be misused, though, cant they . But they can be used to soften messages. As they said earlier, using words and emojis. One emoji can replace 1000 words, as they say. You can use them to order food, you put the slice emoji and you can get your Dominos Pizza delivered, so i am told. I have not done it. So the influence is going farand done it. So the influence is going far and wide. Thank you for being with us on the briefing. I want to mention some of your opinions on emojis. It is world emoji day. Quite a few of them really dislike them, and some say the ones you use the most, the smiley face and the heart, samuel says it helps me to convey my feelings better than words, and i like to use the smiley face. Thank you for your comments. I will see you for your comments. I will see you soon. Hello again. Well, its true to say that weather doesnt just stop at the countrys borders. If we take a look at what happened on sunday here in the uk, south east england we had some rather grey, boring skies. A bit of rain around, we had some cold air brought in by the jetstream that reactivated an old weather front to bring that wet weather. Just a day later, that area of cold air had reached the warm waters of the mediterranean, generating thunderstorms and a waterspout in bastia in corsica. And here we had 137mm falling in one day. Thats 13 times the amount of rain they would normally see in the whole month ofjuly falling in one day. Right now, severe thunderstorms battering parts of greece. A red weather warning in place for much of the country, damaging wind gusts and large hail and risk of flash flooding lasting well into wednesday. Elsewhere, weve got High Pressure holding onto the south east of the uk, but weve got low pressure spinning in off the atlantic, and increasingly over the next few hours, we are going to see rain turning heavier and steadier in northern ireland, and theyre turning quite damp as well in western scotland. But otherwise, its a dry start to the day. Temperatures 10 15 degrees. Should see some early sunshine for eastern scotland and northern england. Through the rest of the day, it will turn wet across western fringes of england in one, the rain getting into scotland, cooler air across the north and west of the country. Some with some warm sunshine, though, for the south east. Its here well see highest temperatures of 26 degrees. The rain could be very slow to clear, but eventually we will get there, and some sunshine follows. Then for thursday, its a day of heavy showers moving into the north and west of the country. 0n into fridays forecast, weve got another area of low pressure swinging in off the atlantic, and this again will bring some wet weather across northern ireland, western parts of england and wales, and perhaps into southern parts of scotland. So many of us will see some rain at some point in the day. Temperatures a little bit below par for the time of year, 18 21 for most of us. And then as we head into the weekend, that area of low pressure clears through. Were going to see further troughing bringing further showers and rain. But the exact track of those systems open to doubt. We could see some rain around as we head into the weekend. Thats your weather.
