We start with Climate Change because European Union leaders have failed to agree a target of zero net greenhouse emissions by 2050. France and germany were among some of the nations pushing for the pledge to go Carbon Neutral into decades but failed to get unanimous agreement at the summit in brussels. This after opposition from some Eastern European countries over the cost to their economies. The eu has already agreed to cut Greenhouse Gas emissions by at least 40 from the 1990 levels by 20 to 30. And there has been some progress here. Emissions from the eu have fallen by 2296 emissions from the eu have fallen by 22 since between 1990 and 2017 but climate Scientists Say that is just not enough. This month, the uk became the very first major economy, really, to make a legal commitment to Carbon Neutrality by 2050. Here is one of the big problems the european reliance on coal. Germany gets 40 of its electricity from coal but plans close all 84 coal fired power stations over the next 20 years. Poland, the proportion is much bigger, of its electricity comes from coal. It is one of the countries refusing to sign up to the 2050 target. Another is the czech republic. A czech mep and candidate for the top eu job spoke to the bbcs ross atkins to explain why. If you make a political declaration it is the easiest way to do. The difficult thing is to fulfil that. I can only remind all that in 11 countries of central and Eastern Europe s, the post communist country, no green mep was elected to the parliament. There is a little bit of a different view between western europe and Eastern Europe. Does that mean that people in those countries do not care about Climate Change . They care but they are a frayed that if it done in an unsustainable way it could damage the national economy. So the phasing out, for instance, of coal fired power plants in Eastern Europe should be done more sustainably. Paul dickinson executive chair of the cdp project that helps firms and organisations to measure and manage environmental impact. What do you make of that . There seems to be a big divide between countries across europe and how to tackle Climate Change and what can be reasonably achieved. This is unfortunate because there was an opportunity here for the eu to come forward and try to lead the world, as it has been doing, on Climate Change. But it feels more like a hiccup or a bump on the road. The direction of travel here is just astonishingly exhilaration of commitments from the uk government, making the 2050 commitment, to the eu almost making it and commitment, to the eu almost making itand on commitment, to the eu almost making it and on the way there. It is an exciting time where government is starting to catch up with business and together we are getting a consensus across, certainly europe. You say they almost made it. It is a binary thing. They have not. And u nless binary thing. They have not. And u nless eve ryo ne binary thing. They have not. And unless everyone agrees to this, the uks commitment by 2050 is somewhat meaningless, isnt it . We dont have a world government but we are pragmatic to governments like the uk are saying well, we will have do something about Climate Change. My lung extreme weather around the world is like a big advertisement for action on Climate Change and you have things like 1. 5 million schoolchildren going on strike and saying this is discrimination against us, discrimination against children and we are not having it. In that context you see governments like the uk say, well, actually we will change the way we produce food and energy and vehicles et cetera. We can get ahead of the curve, head ofa we can get ahead of the curve, head of a new economy, if you will, by making legislation that supports this. It is not a case of being out of kilter with china or whoever but leading them. Leading them in the industries of the future. You said that there is an overwhelming public support around the world for something to be done on Climate Change. And we saw for the very first time a huge interruption to the Mansion House speech there. How do you think politicians handled the protesters in that instance . In that insta nce protesters in that instance . In that instance i dont have much of a view one another to say that politicians across the world are coming to terms with the fact that their primary job is to protect the public. That is where the authority of the state comes from. And you have seen across the recent eu elections, massive advances for green parties. People are changing their behaviour and voting with their money for these industries of the future. But not in Eastern Europe. Eastern europe is a bit like, you know, those dependencies on fossil fuel. We bit like, you know, those dependencies on fossilfuel. We have ahead history of changing the way we do things. There were Big Industries in asbestos and tobacco and various polluta nts in asbestos and tobacco and various pollutants that in the past became a cce pta ble pollutants that in the past became acceptable and society had to change and adapt those people. To me, Climate Changes like the internet getting bigger every year and never going away. And if you are future looking, countries prepare themselves industrially for that. I think the eu will find a settlement of avoidance of being held back when the entire Global Economy is changing. Think you very much for and ensuring your thoughts with us. Lets go now to the Paris Air Show where our reporter has been talking to the new boss of the european plane maker airbus. He is worried about the growing risk pieces of britain leaving the eu without a deal. He also had little reassurance for the 14,000 people the company employs here in the uk that their jobs would be safe in a hard brexit situation. I remember before march we we re situation. I remember before march we were vocal on the risks of a nodal brexit. At that time it was about no deal by accident. Now, and nodal brexit would still be very bad news for industry. That if it becomes more likely than we have to prepare and we need to prepare and limit the damages that no deal would cause. And things like logistics and the movement of parts and in the long term we need this to happen, we think the no deal brexit is a threat and we think this is the responsibility of politicians to do whatever it takes to avoid this scenario. You are 14,000 staff in the uk. Are you able to give them any reassurance because they are quite worried . There is uncertainty, not only for us but for employees and customers and that is why we are hoping for a Withdrawal Agreement if we have to go through brexit and an orderly brexit with a long term situation. We want the uk to remain competitive in the long term. But the uncertainty is there. Lets talk trade now because the tariff battle between the Trump Administration and china grows on. Apple has now weighed in on the argument, begging the white house not to increase ta riffs the white house not to increase tariffs on imports from china. Lets cross now to rico who, i hope can explain to us why.
