More than 50 african countries have expressed outrage and demanded an apology from donald trump after he allegedly used a profanity to describe some african nations, as well as haiti and el salvador, during a meeting in the oval office. A democratic senator who sat next to mr trump in the meeting insists that the president repeatedly used the word shithole to describe the countries. The president has admitted using tough language, but denied using an expletive. In the countries mr trump was allegedly referring to, the reaction has been one of shock and condemnation. When you say the word United States of america, the word united means everybody. You understand . Of america, the word united means everybody. You understand . You cannot unite, one person cannot unite. If you are my president of the United States of america you have to be everybodys president. The United States of america you have to be everybodys president m saddens me and it was unfortunate for the us president that should be loving and accepting everybody to make such a statement. What donald trump said is offensive because at the end of it we are all human beings. Meanwhile, news editors across the globe have been grappling with the dilemma of how to translate the word shithole into their own languages. A headline written by the bbcs Arabic Service says trump allegedly described african countries with a word which translates into english as scum. Another arabic language outlet, egypts al ahram, used a phrase which means, dirty nests or dens. In israel, the hebrew language daily haaretz used lousy countries to get the message across. Ecuadors el commercio went for, paises de porqueria, or trash countries in english. Some otherjournalists working in spanish and french translated the disputed phrase, more literally, substituting the word country, for hole. And in taiwan, chinese language cna opted for a phrase which, bafflingly, means, countries where birds dont lay eggs. A british four man team has broken the world record for rowing across the atlantic ocean, completing nearly five thousand kilometres in twenty nine days. The amateur oarsmen did two man, two hour shifts around the clock to row from la gomera in the Canary Islands to english bay, antigua, six days faster than the previous world record for a four man crew. A little earlier, my colleague Duncan Golestani spoke to the team in antigua. He asked them how theyre feeling following the race. We are all feeling, we have had a bit of time now to accept the fact that we have won the race and broken the world record so i think were relieved and excited and i suppose just proud of what we have managed to achieve. As you should be. How on earth did you take six days off the record . Good question we didnt really know what to expect on that front, we prepare to 1. 5 years and we had a diehard attitude and wanted to give it our all and do the best we could and we took that to the race and quite from the offset, we thought for those two hours we would give our all thought for those two hours we would give ouralland it thought for those two hours we would give our all and it worked out, you know, we managed to maintain a great rates throughout it and a great mentality right through to antigua and we are having, you know, a great time and over the moon with what we achieved. Were looking at pictures of your vessel. It is tidy and compact but compared to some of the waves he must been encountering, how did you deal with it . We came across what of a0 foot swell that sometimes we we re what of a0 foot swell that sometimes we were quite fortunate that we had favourable conditions. We had strong winds and when you have strong winds you get big waves. Especially at night time, the vote would go upright but also to get the extra edge, try to stir away as much as the good because that is where you get the speed. There was a downside to such an waves and that is that you get very wet which can be brutal when you have things like salt on your hands and your bum. But he managed to get through it. We stuck at it. Were pleased with the result. Having said that with none of us having done this any time before we caught up with the antiguan team who came in second who are a team of hardy oceangoing people and they said in one night they could actually see our navigation lights and the conditions without rough they were just waiting to see our boat slow because we would drop suddenly from power anchor which would prevent us from capsizing, although with none of us having rodon ocean before i fell that ocean or really road properly until 18 months ago, we just assumed that was what ocean rowing was like said there was a degree of ignorance in notes and they said they were impressed that we just kept going but from our boat, we hadnt even thought about dropping the power anchor we just assumed that was what was going to be like. Im sure a lot of people are proud of you. Can you tell me briefly what is the first thing you looking forward to. I think, you first thing you looking forward to. Ithink, you know, the first thing you looking forward to. I think, you know, the past 18 having to be very selfish in our preparation for the race, raising money for charities and sponsorships to fund the race, so i think what we are looking forward to is just giving Something Back to those people who have supported a the last 18 months. Spending quality time family and friends and kind of decompressing a little bit in the next fortnight or so. Stuart in the White T Shirt is getting married so it will be a great end to this sort of thing. Here in antigua. We are looking forward to that as well. You should have a good two weeks ahead of us. And a little bit of some antiguan rum, maybe welldeserved. The french president has thrown his support behind a push to protect the humble baguette by making it a unesco cultural treasure.
