No, the punk, the purple and green spikes have you ever been . You have to go lets do it. You could get away with it, naga. We will see what the editor thinks. I have tried. They are having none of it. A bobby on the beat used to be a common sight on our streets but a new report claims almost half of us havent seen one in the last year. The research, covering england and wales, was commissioned by her majestys inspectorate of constabulary. We asked some people out shopping what they thought. We need to see more Police Officers on the beat actually Walking Around and not driving their cars. It makes you feel safe because you know there is more of a presence. It also makes you a bit more scared in a sense because you are seeing Police Office rs because you are seeing Police Officers with a bit more guns and stuff like that. I think a presence does make a difference. If you see the police on the streets, people are more wary and think about what they are doing. I think it presents is very important. Of us the manchester attacks, there have been police with guns everywhere. manchester attacks, there have been police with guns everywhere. I think it is under resourced and i fell sorry for the Police Forces trying to deliver what the public needs. hardly see any. I presume the budget must be going somewhere else. Dr megan 0neill conducts research into policing and is a senior lecturer at the university of dundee. Good morning. Are due really surprised by these findings . Not at all. Unfortunately, funding for policing in england and wales has been cut by about 20 since 2010. That has to take a hit somewhere, and unfortunately, foot patrols and visible policing by the areas hit first with this kind of funding reduction. Isnt it about prioritising a different type of policing, for example, the rise in cybercrime, different types of crime . That is true. Absolutely, cybercrime is something that is increasing and needs a lot of attention. The concern, though, is that Community Policing is an area where many benefits can be found in the long term. So, while Emergency Services are important as well, if we can have officers out in community is getting to know people, gaining trust, that can help event crime down the road. It could prevent terrorism, other sorts of problems in communities, it is more ofa problems in communities, it is more of a slow burn approach. What is the reality . I mean, of course people will find it reassuring to see a visible Police Presence in their local area, but do bobbies on the beat actually cut crime whatever thatis beat actually cut crime whatever that is an interesting question. There is research that suggests Police Officers wandering around aimlessly has no impact on crime. If you have visible foot patrol, it needs to be dedicated and focus on areas of most concern at particular times of the day. However, we should think about Community Policing more broadly. It is notjust community control. They have to work with partners, childrens services, housing, preventative work, trying to solve problems, that is all part of, nicky policing as well. Foot patrol is part of it, but not all all of it. Community. It is being affected by the funding cuts. They do not have the resources to do the problem solving proactive policing the but how do police view this . Problem solving proactive policing the but how do police view this7m is more highly valued than it used to be. Several years ago it was seen asa to be. Several years ago it was seen as a punishment for somebody. It is somewhere they could go if they were going to retire. Nowadays, they see the value in reaching out to communities and putting them first in doing proactive work. However, it is suffering from funding cuts and is suffering from funding cuts and is under resourced, more than it used to be. Thank you for talking to us. You can learn a lot from the odd comment that people will make. I have an insight into her personality. This morning she was talking about warming up her car. I ama talking about warming up her car. I am a scraperand talking about warming up her car. I am a scraper and turn on the engine to warm it up. Do you know his music you should use . Bryan adams . Indeed. It would have to be a very old cd. Not a treasured bryan adams cd. Exactly. You might need something to scrape your windscreen this morning. In fa ct, your windscreen this morning. In fact, you will need something. A cold and frosty start to the day. The met office have copious yellow warnings out price. Not unusual at this time of year but still a hazard. This morning we have snow across the highlands and the grampians. Sleet and across the highlands and the grampians. Sleetand rain across the highlands and the grampians. Sleet and rain across the coast of scotland. You could see one or two wintry showers coming in across the pennines but a lot of dry weather. Ice warnings across central and southern england, take care if you are out and about on roads and pavements. In the south west of england, again, a cold start with one alternate showers. Wales, also a risk of ice this morning. Again, a cold start to the day. Mostly dry, just the odd shower here and there. Northern ireland, more risk of ice. There is also a chance we could yet see freezing fog patches forming. If they do they will be slow to clear, maybe not clearing until the afternoon. As most of us go through the day it will be beautiful, lots of sunshine, still snow across the highlands and grampians. Here we have a north westerly flow. Snow showers across shetland as well. One or two showers coming in across cheshire, heading down towards the midlands. Windy, so not quite as cold as yesterday, but it is of the lack of wind that temperatures will fall rapidly as we go into tonight. 0nce fall rapidly as we go into tonight. Once again, that risk of ice. A new system once again, that risk of ice. A new syste m fro m once again, that risk of ice. A new system from the south west introducing not just system from the south west introducing notjust rain but also snow across Northern Ireland and wales. The temperatures you saw there across towns and cities, but where we have lying snow, temperatures could fall as low as minus 13. Tomorrow we pick up all of this and rain scoots across southern counties, accompanied by gusty winds. Then we see the snow kept going across parts of the midlands, Northern England, in through southern scotland and possibly as far north as the Central Lowlands. That is something we are keeping a close eye on for obvious reasons. Behind that, look at the change in temperatures. They will begin to rise and the wind changes direction as well. On saturday, and you weather front producing rain across scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland, still with snow, but further south it is breezy and mild or stop 12s and 13s, whereas in the north it will be fives and sixs. Sunday, lane across parts of Northern England and northern wales. Showers coming in across the north and west of scotland, still breezy but lots of dry and mild weather, 11 13 but lots of dry and mild weather, 11 13 being what you can expect if you are in london. Carroll, thank you. Have you done your boxing day sales shopping . No, not in the sales. I didnt see anything i wa nted sales. I didnt see anything i wanted before so i dont think there will be anything now. How abstemious of you. What about you . Loads, too much. Ive done none. Ithink of you. What about you . Loads, too much. Ive done none. I think we are a tale of two cities. I can return, though. 0r a tale of two cities. I can return, though. Or the lots and return it later. You are a shops nightmare. And a neighbours nightmare. You are one of those, cant stand them. Im the one taking in the package or the time. All right we can talk more about that later. Good morning, everybody. The boxing day sales used to bea everybody. The boxing day sales used to be a very big deal, people camping in the streets to bag the bargains when the shops opened at midnight. But as people switch to online the post Christmas Day have become less important and fewer of us are heading to the high street. According to the latest figures from springboard which monitors high street visits theres been a marked fall this year, overall visits to the shops on boxing day were down 4. 5 on the same day last year. Retail parks and Shopping Centres did slightly better but it was the traditional high street that suffered most. In fact, this is the worst boxing day performance that springboard has recorded for five years. We can talk to diane wehrle, who is insights director at springboard. We have been talking about fewer people going to the actual high street every christmas, or easter. Was anything different this time around . Yes, things have shifted, in the way we shop christmas now. We have the anchor of luck friday at the end of november. Lots of people do quite a lot of their Christmas Shopping online or in store around black friday, not necessarily on black riding itself, but leading up to the day orjust after the day. That takes the steam out of the subsequent weeks leading up out of the subsequent weeks leading up to christmas. We found a springboard, it was flat right up until the last week before christmas when it rose by about 16 . It has these two magnets sitting around christmas. Black friday and be week before christmas. We clearly like a bargain. Why arent the boxing day sales having the impact they used to . We are still seeing big reductions. The problem we are having now is that we are seeing discounting all the way through. It began before black friday and led into black friday and that was black friday week and it hasnt really abated, all the way through. They have continued right up through christmas and of course we can shop online and get discounts online. By the time we get to boxing day we saw the time we get to boxing day we saw the discounts making us board, really. We have already been buying lots of products. That takes the stea m lots of products. That takes the steam away from boxing day. So we are spending more money but it has shifted earlier india, or our retailers finding it harder . shifted earlier india, or our retailers finding it harder . I dont think we are spending more money. What we have seen over december, in footfall terms at springboard, is that footfall has dropped by about 396. That footfall has dropped by about 3 . That is footfall going into retail destinations. 0bviously 3 . That is footfall going into retail destinations. Obviously there isa retail destinations. Obviously there is a natural relationship between the numbers of people in these places and how much they spend, so if the numbers are dropping, the spending will be dropping. Saw sales account for about 80 of spending. If footfall is dropping so i sales. And sales are at a discount now. So retailers are selling at a lower price, and it is unlikely sales will be going up. If we are so hooked on discounts, if i see something down 10 im not very interested, what does it mean for how retailers can change the price of their goods, if they know they have to give the impression there is a discount this . There are rules around it, arent they . Yes. It is difficult for retailers. They are locked into a discount culture now and that means that, as you said, as consumers we look at full price items and decide, no, we will wait until the sale, knowing that discounts will be available in the next week or month or even six weeks, and that has made it harderfor the or even six weeks, and that has made it harder for the retailers. Ultimately it means that if their margins are dropping, which they are, they will have less money to spend on reinvestment, and replenishing and enhancing their offer. Diane, thank you. Very interesting. It could be a tough time for retailers. We will find out how they have done over the next few weeks. Soon well be talking about returns, and rights you have. And how to rely on your neighbours . Yes, just you. To pickup your deliveries. Good. Inspired by the Twilight Zone and seeking to explore the dark side of our love affair with technology, black mirror returns for a Fourth Season tomorrow. After initially beginning on channel 4, the show is now produced by netflix, meaning much bigger budgets and a massive global audience. Double 0scar winnerjodie foster has directed one of the epsiodes and shes been telling charlie what its all about. Im 2000 years old and i remember when we used to open up the door and just let the kids speed. Sarah . Sarah sarah take a lady i found her im so sorry. Lets talk about archangel. Do you want to tell us about the idea . My episode, archangel, is a mother and daughter story. It begins when the child is worn and it ends when the child leaves are to go off to start her life, and there is a device, which controls the childs safety. I guess thatis controls the childs safety. I guess that is what i can tell you. It comes to that thing which all pa rents comes to that thing which all parents have about how much you want to know about your childs life. Yes i guess there is that. There is obviously this device, which helps keep a child safe, and we all want that. You want to keep our chart from being hit by a car or bitten by a dog or anything that happening to them. Our child. But over the course of applying this technology she begins living vicariously through her daughter it, in a way, and there are other issues that come about, would this symbiosis, this desperate connection between mother and child. The child ultimately has to find a way to become independent. You are a parent. I am. We have all been there, any parent has been there. You were talking about dividing things up, the point at which you say, that is their life, i need to know about their life. How do you work that one through. Well, my kids are grown up now. Not totally grown. I am at the other end of that spectrum. My older sun is 19 and my youngest is 16. So, yeah, dealing with sexuality with your children, you know, and there are so many. Semi mixed messages, not just as a parent, but specifically asa just as a parent, but specifically as a mother, towards children. The threat so many mixed messages. So many mixed messages. Wanting them to be free from fear, not been the kinds of things you wanted to live asa kinds of things you wanted to live as a woman, but also wanting to break their kneeca ps as a woman, but also wanting to break their kneecaps when they run away from you. It is a strange relationship. I was raised by a single mother rend it was a very tight relationship, the most important relationship in my life, the most impactful and foundational, but also a big struggle. This has lots to do with that. I have children almost exactly the same age as yours. We all know that thing about kind of wanting to know about their lives, but knowing full well that you have to separate out at some point, they have to have their own stuff. Yeah, and you know, some of this is just about the general problems with parenting and some of it is looking deeply at the psychology of a specific character who comes to the movie flawed. Showers not quite right. You get hints of what it might have in which shaped her in her life, even if they are small things. I really love movies about the tiny, little, small details. It is something i am always drawn to, the little tapestry of clues we all give to each other. Some of the black mirror episodes are different genres. Some of them are different genres. Some of them are horror films are different genres. Some of them are horrorfilms which are different genres. Some of them are horror films which are big and scary and have frightening parts, some of them are satirical. This one is the delicate, supple, thoughtful episode. Thank you so much for your time. Thank you. Black mirror is available on netflix tomorrow. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london news, im sara 0rchard. It is a cold and frosty start to the day. It will be cold all day but we can compensate for that with lots of sunshine. A met Office Weather warning out. Everything that came from the sky this morning has already frozen onto the services. Take care on untreated roads in particular. Other than that, a pleasant day. Lots of sunshine. The winds were lighter than they were yesterday, coming in from the north west. Top temperatures, only 4 5 celsius. It will feel even colder tonight. If you are going out this evening wrap up warm because we could see lots of low temperatures, around 3. By the time most of us wake up it will be feeling milder, we have this milder air along with a bit of rain around the morning. The winds will pick up as well. More wet and windy spells over the course of the weekend and it looks mild end to the year. I will be back with the latest on the bbc london newsroom in half an hour. More on the website at the usual address. Back to the Breakfast Team for now. Weather warnings across the uk. Hundreds were forced to stay in sta nsted hundreds were forced to stay in Stansted Airport after long delays. Im in the midlands where theyve been experiencing some of the worst conditions on the roads with temperatures below zero. Here, drivers are being told to watch out for black ice and treacherous conditions. And the met office has many yellow warnings out for ice this morning. Tomorrow, some of us will see some snow. Good morning. Also this morning an Emergency Medical Team from the uk is deployed to bangladesh to help fight an outbreak of diphtheria affecting Rohingya Muslim refugee camps. In sport, its been another good day for england in melbourne. A double century from Alastair Cook gives them a first innings lead on day three of the melbourne test. Good morning. First, our main story. There are warnings of treacherous driving conditions this morning, as sub zero temperatures cause disruption for a second day across large parts of the uk. Hundreds of people have spent the night at Stansted Airport after flights were cancelled or delayed. The met office has issued 15 weather warnings. Well get the latest from carol in a moment, but first, jane. She is in leicestershire. It is icy with difficult driving conditions. Very difficult. It is free flowing now, but a different story yesterday. We will look back at what happened at standsted overnight 300 passengers had to spend the night on makeshift beds with blankets given out after their flights were cancelled yesterday. The runway was closed twice because of the snowy and icy conditions. We are told that the very latest these things will be back to normal, flights will be back to normal, later on today. Check before you travel. Things are treacherous today. Look behind me. You will see the enmore motorway going to london, meeting the m6 and the a14. This is where it was the worst yesterday. A flurry jackknifed over their closing all three lanes southbound. 500 homes have been. Sorry, they are still without power. The good news is that 70,000 homes have been reconnected overnight. Chances are you will be waking up to a yellow weather warning where you are this morning. There are 15 in place covering the vast majority of the country. There are also 11 flood warnings this morning. The problem is much of yesterdays snow has toured overnight and three refrozen. We are expecting it to thaw again. So there are flood warnings. Take care this morning. We will have the latest. And now for the latest weather with carol. How icy will it be today . I think this time of year means it is not unusual. The met office has 15 weather warnings. They are yellow, the lowest level. They cover northern and western parts of scotland, Northern Ireland, wales, central and southern scotland. Slippery conditions underfoot. Sometimes it will be hazardous as the grit can be washed away and it freezes. That can be an additional hazard. As we go through tonight and tomorrow, there is more snow forecast across parts of Northern Ireland, wales, Northern England, and parts of scotland. I will tell you more about that in the weather forecast. Thank you. A group of british doctors, nurses and firefighters are preparing to fly out to bangladesh to help treat a deadly diphtheria Virus Outbreak in some of the Worlds Largest refugee camps. The United Nations says children have suffered shocking levels of violence in warzones around the world in the past year. In a new report, the uns childrens agency, unicef, talks about how children were used as human shields, killed, injured, and called on to fight. Time horizon for planning, of spending reviews. If we could have a workforce plan, a funding settlement, that perhaps lasted ten years rather than three or four years, i think that would people, uh, make things, a little easier for people in the system. New Research Suggests nearly half of people in england and wales havent seen a Uniformed Police or Community Support officer walking a beat in their area over the last year. A report by her majestys inspectorate of constabulary also found that three in ten people consider crime and anti social behaviour to be a problem in their area. Chi chi izundu reports. It was once a very common sight on british streets, the bobby on the beat, high profile, and reassuring. They are doing a good job. The survey by her majestys inspectorate of constabulary and fire and rescue services found four fifths of people asked in wales thought it was important to have a regular Police Presence in theirarea. But in the last year, 44 of people had not seen a Uniformed Police officer patrolling their streets, while a quarter said they felt the Service Provided by local police was getting worse. Budget cuts are at their worst since 1985, and a shift in resources to focus on things like terrorism and cybercrime are just some of the Reasons Police chiefs say they are not walking the beat as often anymore. In a statement, the Home Office Said it was announcing an increase of Police Funding by up to £450 million for local, national, and counterterrorism policing next year. Chi chi izundu, bbc news. Theres a warning that an increased use of robots in the workplace could widen the gap between rich and poor. A report by the think tank, the institute for Public Policy research, says new technology could boost productivity but have an impact on low skilled jobs. The calf, which is the ninth asian elephant delivered at the zoo, tried to stand 25 minutes after it was born. We are not sure if it is a boy or a girland we do we are not sure if it is a boy or a girl and we do not know the name. Perhaps it has not been named yet. It. It. The christmas elephant. If you have any suggestions, send them improving wi fi and mobile on trains will not only make journeys more enjoyable and productive, but will also make them safer and improve how they operate. Thats the claim behind new plans to improve connectivity for passengers on britains railways. Lets find out more and speak to the minister for digital, matt hancock. Hejoins us now he joins us now from the cambridge studio. Thank you for talking to us this morning. Good morning. Good morning. How does the government used its influence . What role does it play in putting better wi fi on trains . We know one of the things passengers want is good connectivity on the train. In fact, they wanted where they live, work, and travel. So we are putting in funding in order to get the first train line up 2 order to get the first train line up 2 to order to get the first train line up 2 to gigabyte speeds. We will be working to make sure they go down the train lines and main lines down the train lines and main lines down the country. It takes time to get there, but we are Getting Started on there, but we are Getting Started on the first lines with a big goal to get all the main ones done by the middle of the next decade. Get all the main ones done by the middle of the next decadem get all the main ones done by the middle of the next decade. It is up to you to provide funding to Train Companies and roll it out in appropriate places . Yes. We funded two in the first instance to prove the technology and show it can work. The transpennine line and also the Glasgow Edinburgh line. All the other lines, we will see what will work. If we can do it commercially without having to spend taxpayers money, that would be great. If we have to do it using that money, we will consider that the but how much money will it cost in total . The first line is costing £35 million. So, that is leeds manchester. It is very busy. There is a lot of others. I hope we can do as many commercially as possible because, you know, people, when they get connected, they connect through mobile phone companies. I want to do it with as little taxpayer money as possible. But it is crucial we get it done because people need to be connected. How receptive are Rail Companies to the idea that commuters wa nt companies to the idea that commuters want this . How willing are they to give the cash . Some of them are really forwardthinking. The chilterns line for example, has already done it independently of government, which is brilliant. 0thers government, which is brilliant. Others are engaging with others in talking to us about it. The wi fi demand is actually greater we look at the research on the long main line journeys, you know at the research on the long main linejourneys, you know if at the research on the long main line journeys, you know if you sat down for a few hours. Passengers tend to use 4g. Potentially we will use 5g on the shorter lines. What really matters is making sure people can get that connection, whether it is through the wi fi, the mobile signal, because there is nothing more frustrating than being stuck on a train unable to connect when you just need to tell someone when you will get there, or if you want to work or stream video or next time go faster. We spoke in september and bite you rolling out superfast rock band to customers to be one of the things is the frustration. About. Broadband. Can you understand the frustration when it seems the government is more concerned about those who use trains than those who are in their homes without function . You cannot just are in their homes without function . You cannotjust do one. We have a comprehensive plan to get connectivity to people where they live, work, and travel. We are on target to hit 95 of premises having access to superfast broadband by the end of the year. We have a few days later, i think we have hit the target, but we cannot announce it yet. Get into the final 5 is imported. It is also important we get the next generation of technology going. Important. We need faster speeds at home and also sg need faster speeds at home and also 5g is coming down the track which will upgrade mobile connections. You cannot dojust will upgrade mobile connections. You cannot do just one of these things. That is why we have a plan for where people live, work, and travel. We have to have a plan for all three. Thank you for talking to us on brea kfast. The main stories this morning subzero temperatures are causing disruption for a second day across large parts of the united kingdom, with the met office issuing 15 weather warnings. Weather warnings. A British Emergency Medical Team will travel to bangladesh to help fight an outbreak of diphtheria in Rohingya Muslim refugee camps. Lots to talk about in the weather. Carroll, it is confusing. Subzero last night but we expect double digits on new years eve . Thats right, some of us are. Tonight in scotland we could see lows of 13 where there is low lying snow. There is a risk of ice. The met office has many yellow warnings out across scotland. Northern ireland also, and wales in central and southern england. As you can see there is lots of dry weather around. When the sun gets up it will be a Beautiful Day with sparkly sunshine. It is quite as windy as it was yesterday so it will not feel as raw as it did yesterday. Having said that it will still feel cold and you will need to wrap up warmly. 0ne that it will still feel cold and you will need to wrap up warmly. One or two match showers dotted around. Some showers coming across wales, around cheshire, into the north midlands, for example. 0ne around cheshire, into the north midlands, for example. One or two of those will have a wintry flavour. So there will be sleet and possibly the odd snowflake. Northern ireland, there is a risk of ice and freezing fog, now diminishing. Wintry showers continuing across scotland. Falling snow in the highlands and grampians. 0n the coast will have sleet and rain. For the bulk of the British Isles it is going to be dry, sunny, and it will be nippy. Temperature wise in sounds and cities we are looking at 3 6, maybe seven in the Channel Islands. Patchy rain coming in across northern cornwall later in the day. In the evening and overnight, with that lack of wind, temperatures will drop rapidly. Dry for many parts of the uk. Again, there is that risk of ice. Any active system coming in from the west, introducing strengthening winds, some rain and snow across the hills in particular, of Northern Ireland and also wales. We have lying snow over scotland, and because he temperatures as low as minus 13. Generally, 3 minus five. Tomorrow the rain goes across the south, accompanied by gusty winds and gales. The snow gets going across parts of the north West Midlands and normington. Also southern scotland. There is a risk of it getting into the central lowla nds of it getting into the Central Lowlands as well. If that happens, parts of Northern England and parts of scotla nd parts of Northern England and parts of scotland will get another few centimetres accumulating. So that is an additional hazard if you are travelling. Look at the other end of the country. One or two degrees in the country. One or two degrees in the north, 1112 in the south. That is because we have a change of air mass and wind direction and it is largely dry with a few showers scooting across the English Channel during the course of saturday. 13 is good for this time of year. As we move north back into the cold array of, again, we see rain and snow. 0n sunday you can see that rain. Lots of dry weather around also. Still mild in the south, cooler as we go north. And if you are partying at midnight on new years eve, lots of clear spells, a breezy and chilly wind, passing showers, most of which will be in the west. In the new year the National Health service will be 70 years old. It was established in 1948 to provide something no other country had, a Health Service that was available to all and free at the point of delivery. Now nhs bosses say theyre worried that theres not enough funding to do everything, and theres talk of rationing services or scrapping waiting time targets. So what can we expect from the nhs of the future . 0ur health correspondent, catherine burns, reports. 0n the 5th ofjuly, the new National Health service starts, providing hospital and specialist services. Before 1948, healthcare was a luxury not everyone could afford. Poorer people often went without medical treatment. The nhs changed that. It was entirely funded by tax, so people paid, or didnt, according to what they could manage. Dont forget, choose your doctor now. So far the National Health service has been getting along remarkably smoothly. Polio is almost unheard of in the uk now, thanks to a Vaccination Programme starting in 1958. When its time for it to be done i wouldnt hesitate, if i had 10 or 20 children i would have them all done. The worlds first ivf baby was born in 1978. Now its thought 125,000 others have been born on the nhs. There is a lot to celebrate ahead of the nhss 70th birthday, like the staff. Research suggests the vast majority of patients have confidence in their doctors and nurses. Internationally, it rates highly for how safe and affordable it is. But there are also real causes for concern. Two big things to worry about. The first is the staffing crisis we face across a whole range of different clinical professions. Associated with that is the money. We have moved from it being difficult to live with, to being increasingly impossible. I think the people running the Health Service are becoming more and more concerned about their ability to keep the show on the road. The government says it recognises there are realfunding pressures in the nhs, but that this is its highest priority. Looking ahead, what will the nhs look like in another ten years time . I think the next decade, when we celebrate our 80th anniversary, will be the decade when we celebrate the huge changes in technology, in medical innovation, and what that will really mean is that that decade is going to be the decade of patient power. Some hospitals are already saying they are full for the winter. How much does that worry you . We are always worried about winter in the nhs. I dont know what is going to happen injanuary but i do know that the nhs has done more preparation than it has ever done before. And i think that will mean we have a better chance of getting through what is always a challenging period. Lets leave the final words to an mp from 1948. Provided we are reasonable during the coming months, especially when illness is always at its heaviest, there is no danger whatever that the National Health service will break down. Were joined now by professor tony young, National Clinical director for innovation at nhs england. Good morning. So we are healthier, but we are using the nhs more. How does the system need to change to be fit for purpose for another 70 yea rs . Fit for purpose for another 70 years . It is a really fantastic time in healthcare at the moment. We should be very proud as a nation. 70 yea rs should be very proud as a nation. 70 years ago our nation undertook one of the largest social innovations of the post war period, providing healthcare free at the point of delivery for its whole population. Though one had done that before. It was a great innovation. But the problems and challenges we faced 70 yea rs problems and challenges we faced 70 years ago arnotts the same ones that we face today. So we need new thinking, new action, innovation to help us take forward those latest, greatest ideas. 0ne help us take forward those latest, greatest ideas. One of the great iys greatest ideas. One of the great joys of my role that i have that nhs england is that i get to see some of the latest, greatest things going on right across the planet. Whether thatis right across the planet. Whether that is start ups from Mountain View in silicon valley, or in moscow or israel or islington, all of the things that are going on around the place. So as we look to the future, i think one of the great changes we are going to see is around genomics. We have a great history in our country. We are the country that discovered the structure of dna in 1953, and around the turn of the millennium we unravelled that, decoding the human gene. 0ur millennium we unravelled that, decoding the human gene. Our 70th anniversary of the nhs, in 2018, has us anniversary of the nhs, in 2018, has us becoming the first country in the world to offer personalised medicine to the whole nation. What does that mean . That means his whole gene screening, which will be made available starting next autumn on the nhs for people with cancer and read diseases. In our 70th year we can move away from this one size fits all approach to an approach where retailer and personalise our medicine. Your enthusiasm will no doubt be immense. You are the director of innovation, so you have all these wonderful gadgets you can put in place and these great inventions and of course the gino and screening, which will make a difference. Gino and. But we have heard today from jeremy hunt that he is concerned that planning for funding has not in put out fire enough. So good plans cannot be put in place. We hear about the stress that people on the front lines are facing. So while we are seeing this technology and innovation coming and there are still issues of implementing this and having the tools to implement this effectively. Yes, i understand that. I am a co nsulta nt yes, i understand that. I am a consultant surgeon in the nhs at south and hospital in sx, so i am on the frontline, day in and day out, andi the frontline, day in and day out, and i understand that very much. Southend hospital in essex. People do ask me how can afford to introduce these things going forward. My answer is that cannot afford not to. If you look back to did the first human genome sequencing, we could have done 30 human genome screens with the nhs budget in total. It would have used it all up. 15 or 16 years later the price has dropped nearly dropped to nearly £500 per screening. So the prices for this technology is coming down and that happens we have a great scientific race, and number of genomic medicine centres, and we can make this available across the country. Can you show us the example you have with you . An apple might be able to use in the future . You are very interested in this. able to use in the future . You are very interested in this. I love this, i tell you why, it is about posture, and my posture is awful. What would you think this is . That isa what would you think this is . That is a wearable piece of technology which comes from an Israeli Company that i have been working with. It is for your posture. I am wearing one of the moment. I can show that to the camera and hopefully you can see that. That sits on your spine, just at the top. I am wearing one underneath my shirt. You can see that if i slouch, it goes red, and ifi that if i slouch, it goes red, and if i sit up straight, you will see that the main changes to green and i am upright. Now, we have done a little study in my Hospital Group in sx, looking at this sensor on about 20 people. Essex. People who used this for three months and trained readily, almost half of them reported that back pain had gone. Readily, almost half of them reported that back pain had gonem you just have to keep it on, around but no, you do a training period during the day, and for ten or 15 minutes or so, it goes on tracking. So it can tell you. What it does, when you slouch, it vibrates very slightly see fielder civil was in on your spine and you sit up straight stop but shouldnt we be using technology in new and interesting ways like that . It is notjust wea ra ble ways like that . It is notjust wearable sensors. We have a programme at the nhs where we are taking some of the brightest and most disrupt the frontline clinicians in our Health Service, doctors and dentists and pharmacist and nurses, wean them onto this programme to teach them commercial skills and knowledge to help take their ideas forward. 0ne skills and knowledge to help take their ideas forward. One of these is called proximy, and what proximy does, it is an augmented reality collaboration platform. Have you seen the movie avatar, where you had a piece of technology which created a piece of technology which created a virtual person in a different place . Well, in hollywood it is the stuff of movies and science fiction, but in the nhs, as we move into our 70th year, it is a wonderful little start up that came from a Plastic Surgery registrar called proximy. So you can take a surgical expert, you can put them in a hospital anywhere in the planet, and they help local teams deliver that surgical care. We are using it for training in medical service and Junior Doctors in this country, but the team at proximy have already deployed this into syria. So in a war setting, we cannot get that expert surgical expertise on the frontline, you can have that virtual surgeon in the room ina have that virtual surgeon in the room in a trauma setting. And the funding is in place to put that there . So, proximy is a company which has spun out and has raised funding to investors to take that forward because actually, if we do not get our ideas out of the labs and hospitals, and into businesses and hospitals, and into businesses and social enterprises which can be funded, they are going to sit as ideas which go nowhere, not making a difference to patient care. There are so many exciting things going on. People think the latest and greatest things have to come from silicon valley, but they dont. We are seeing lots of things coming out of israel, lots of things coming out of israel, lots of things coming out of london. 0k, we will have to leave it there for now. On cue. Thank you. It is icy outside for many of us. Keep an eye on what is happening on the travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london news, im sara 0rchard. Thank you. 2017 has been one of the warmest years on record. We have had extreme weather, from storms to heatwaves and sub zero temperatures in autumn. It has been a freak year for nature according to the National Trust which released its annual weather and wildlife review. We will discuss the unusual findings. It seems odd to say it has been a warm year when it is freezing outside, but it has severely yes. It isa mild outside, but it has severely yes. It is a mild winter yet again. A couple of cold spells, though. Early spring again. It ran well, and did not get disrupted by strange weather. And then a decent summer down south until storms broke out and then it rained and rained and rained. How has this years weather affected nature . The wildlife was hugely affected by local weather and climate. There are always winners and losers. Some do well in some do badly. Wildlife is in flux. Nothing is ever stable. There are always winners and losers. Can you run us through some . Yeah. Basically, because of the good spring, it was a good nesting season. Insects like flies and bumblebees, they did pretty well for once. It was a very early season. Plants came out early. Butterflies appeared very early as well. By and large, untiljuly, things were doing really well. And then the wheels came off. There has been some good news for spring flowers as well. What is better, stability, as in the traditional seasons, or it is almostjumble of seasons . Or this. They seem to be emerging. It is nothing new. If you read midsummer night s dream, they talk about the seasons being jumbled up. Midsomer nights dream. Seasons are becoming less distinctive. We have a cold snap, a mild spell, wejust distinctive. We have a cold snap, a mild spell, we just had distinctive. We have a cold snap, a mild spell, wejust had one, ridiculously mild, especially christmas. How do the birds figure out when to fly . That would be quite confusing. It was really late, the cold spell, this year, wasnt it . Yes. Insects and birds in particular can get caught out. If you have a lot of mild weather in the winter, think hedgehogs and squirrels, caterpillars, they should be com pletely caterpillars, they should be completely hibernating. If they are woken up by mild spells, they spend valuable energy and can perish as a result. Things. A mild winter is not necessarily a good thing for the wildlife. It is good news for one type of species. We have seen a spider we have not seen in 50 years. Ido spider we have not seen in 50 years. I do not know if that is a good thing. Here it is. Beautiful. It is a rest beasties. It was found by absolute beginners. Rare species. Now is the best time to become a naturalist. There are so many books and websites. It is all there. Even for obscure groups, like spiders. That was a diamond spider. It has been really wet as well. It has been very wet up north. Since mid july. Prior to that we were actually starting to get a good summer until the wheels came off. The northern half of the British Isles has had a pretty miserable time since late may. And, yes, it does more harm than good. 0bviously we worry about floods and storms, and rightly so. It has been very good to talk to you. Thank you. We got some lovely wildlife pictures as well. And a spider. Not so keen on that . They are beautiful and useful. You are watching breakfast. Weve been talking about the weather, and subzero temperatures are causing disruption for a second day across large parts of the uk. The met 0ffice large parts of the uk. The met office has issued yellow weather warnings for ice. A British Emergency Medical Team is travelling to bangladesh today to help fight an outbreak of diphtheria in rohingya was the g camps. Muslim refugee camps. Lets show you what it is like outside. This is near rugby. You can see the snow lying on the ground. Traffic is making its way, it is moving, but drivers must be mindful of the icy conditions. That is what carol will keep us up to date with. Good morning. I set this time of year is not unusual but it is worth mentioning it nonetheless. Ice at this time of year. Take it easy on untreated surfaces. Lots of ice across scotland, and snow showers across the highlands and grampians, falling as snow or sleet along the coast. In Northern England, a bright start but a cold one. In the midlands, east anglia and the southern counties we are back underneath a yellow warning from the met office for ice. So it will be cold this morning, but a Beautiful Day for many if you like it sunny. South west england, a cold start, here we see the sunshine and the same across wales. The south west and wales also wonder that met office ice warning, with one or two showers. that met office ice warning, with one or two showers. Also under. If you are going outside, take it easy. Snow showers continuing across the north of scotland. A key northerly wind, so feeling cold. Less wind for the rest of us compare to yesterday, so it will still be cold but not as raw as it was yesterday. Still a few wintry showers across cheshire, north wales, into the midlands and pennines, at they will be the exception rather than the rule. Patchy rain across cornwall and the Channel Islands. That will not amount to too much, but later on in the evening and overnight, an active weather front coming in from the west. Temperatures will drop quickly this evening and it will be a cold night then last night for most of us. An active weather front and snow in the hills of Northern Ireland and wales. The risk of ice first thing tomorrow morning once again. Rain coming across southern counties, accompanied by gusty winds and gales in the channel. This snow is pushing up in the channel. This snow is pushing up the midlands, heading into Northern England, southern scotland, and potentially Central Scotland as well. This could deposit an extra couple of centimetres of snow. Still cold in the north, but milder air is coming in. A change in wind direction and air mass. Heading into saturday, still windy across southern counties and some spots of rain coming across the south west and the Channel Islands. More rain coming across the north of the country as well, through scotland. Some snow and rain in Northern England, but look at the difference in those temperatures. As we go into sunday, still pretty wet across parts of scotland and Northern England. Rain clearing away from the south east, and temperature wise, 11 13 in south east, and temperature wise, 11 13 in the south, whereas we are looking at 5 7 further north. If you are going out to see in the new year, the kind of weather you can expect is this. Some clear spells, a chilly breeze, but not as cold as it will be this coming night, for example. Passing showers, and most of those will be in the west. As ever, wrap up warm, have fun, and as they say. Good advice, carol. I know you went out for your christmas dinner. Was it all good . It was fabulous, fabulous food and not having to do any clearing up of preparing was the bees knees. Bees knees. And how was yours . Did you cook it . No, it was lovely. My mother cooked it. That is why you go home for christmas. I cooked my own this year. It all worked out well but i do not think it was that case for everybody. There were some dodgy turkeys, or accusations of dodgy turkeys, or accusations of dodgy turkeys being sold. Yes. Normally at this time of year when we talk about consumer writes it is about the gifts you might want to send back. Tesco in particular had issues with some of their turkeys. We have lots of complaints about that. How do you prove that your turkey wasnt good . Stay tuned. 0k. That is exactly what we will be talking about. Good morning, everybody. As i said, normally we would be focusing on the right receipt of a duplicate gift, or swapping clothes that are the wrong side. Size. But hundreds have complained that their tesco finest turkey smelt or tasted off when they tucked into their christmas dinner. Kirsten shore from stafford didnt discover the turkey was off until the dinner was served. We were sat round the table and my husband said to my mother, something doesnt taste right. And i said, yeah, some innocent quite right. We couldnt pinpoint what it was. Then i had couldnt pinpoint what it was. Then ihada couldnt pinpoint what it was. Then i had a mouthful of turkey and i spat it out on the table, because it was without a vile. It was that vile. It took us a while to realise it was the turkey, we have made the greedy with the giblets from the turkey. We had to throw the entire dinner in the bin, it was completely inedible. So, not great. Tesco has apologised and promised compensation to those affected, but if youve had a similar problem, what are you entitled to . Lets have a chat to megan french, whos a consumer writer with money saving expert. Good morning. Now, it isnt great, if you discover on Christmas Day, whether it is when you take the turkey out of the oven or you are tucking into it, that there is a problem with it. As naga asked, how do you prove you have an issue . The first thing to remember is that any goods you buy, in this case a turkey, must be of satisfactory quality and as described. In this case you have pulled it out, it doesnt look right or taste right. Gather a bit of evidence, take some pictures. Ideally you would keep hold of it, but in this case that is perhaps not feasible. Tesco has said in this case it would accept a receipt or proof of purchase in this case. As with any faulty good, keep hold of it and take it back in. What are you entitled to . People talk about compensation. This sounds like more than a refund, if your whole christmas dinner is ruined. You would be entitled to a full refund if you take Something Back within 30 days, or if it is food, as soon as a book. Where the compensation might come in, you could ask for more damages. So in this case if it has ruined your christmas dinner you could say, look, i spent however much and i would like this money backin much and i would like this money back in return. No guarantees but it doesnt hurt to ask. And that is a conversation you have to have with whoever sold it to, i guess. Lets talk about the sales and shopping. Lots of people would have lots of things in the run up to christmas and maybe some people are not happy with what they got, it could da duplicate or Something Like that. What are you entitled to, if you have something in your home which you dont want to own . There is a difference in writes. If you bought something at the store, you are at the mercy of their policy, if it is simply the wrong size or you want to change your mind. Even if you have the receipt . Yes, it is whatever they say, it might be exchange only. If you buy something online you have returned rights. 14 days after you receive the item you can cancel your order. Then you have a further 14 days to send those items back. That is most goods other than personalised items. It could be the wrong size, the wrong colour. It is worth remembering that difference. 0bviously worth remembering that difference. Obviously if it is a gift you might need to speak to the person who bought it for you, unless you have a receipt. So often it is that sign you see behind the counter in a store which will save, to be honest, most of the i dont Pay Attention to it, but that is what is important. Now, you say that online you have rights for a refund . So if you buy something before christmas at full price and now after christmas you notice it is on sale, could you in theory get a refund on what you bought before, and attempt to buy it ata bought before, and attempt to buy it at a cheaper price . Yeah, as long as you are within the timeframe. 14 days after the item has been delivered unique to cancel that order. A further 14 days to send the books back goods back. So you must be within the timeframe and they must have the goods in stock. And if you do not have a receipt, if you just have a lovely scarf but it isnt to your taste, will the retailer accept it and give you a swa p retailer accept it and give you a swap for a refund . You might have a gift receipt, take a look at that. You can always try your luck. Go in and say to them, it is a bit awkward, i dont want to confess im doing this. You could look at reselling the item, re gifting it, or giving it to charity. That is an interesting point. There are other ways to get rid of it. At the end of the day you might have to confess to the day you might have to confess to the person who gave it to you. Megan, thank you. So, a good reason to check the envelopes you get your christmas cards in. See if there is a receipt in there stop you never know, that could be the crucial thing. We need a lesson in etiquette. What is the procedure, if you have a present that you dont like, and there is no gift receipt, how do you tell that Family Member that. You dont well, what do you do, you cant just that. You dont well, what do you do, you cantjust keep it. You can reg ift do, you cantjust keep it. You can regift it. That is an idea. Perhaps to the person who gave it to you, next christmas. Regifting is a good idea. Im not saying i have done that. Did you like all your debts . Most of them. Which ones didnt you like . Im not going to tell you that. Plenty more coming up on the programme. Hes been called the real life forrest gump after the film inspired him to run across america four times. Well speak to rob pope, from liverpool, as he prepares to attempt the gruelling route for a fifth time and ask him if each run is like a box of chocolates. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london news, im sara 0rchard. Partial closures on the circle and district lines. 0n the trains, southeastern are not calling at charing cross, London Bridge or waterloo bridge, due to engineering works, and no Greater Anglia trains in or out of liverpool street. 0n the roads, the a1 Holloway Road is closed between highbury corner and furlong road and on the m25 its down to three lanes anticlockwise between junctions 16 and 15 for barrier repairs. Lets have a check on the weather now with elizabeth rizzini. Good morning. Following yesterdays snow and a glorious sunset we saw clear skies last night, temperatures have dropped below freezing. Hello. This is breakfast with tina daheley and naga munchetty. Weather warnings of ice for most of the uk as the disruption to travel continues for a second day. Hundreds are forced to spend the night at Stanstead Airport as the bad conditions cause long delays. Im in the midlands where theyve been experiencing some of the worst conditions on the roads, with temperatures below zero. There are power cuts because of the snow. Here drivers are being told to watch out for black ice and treacherous conditions. The weather warnings for ice cover the midlands, the north and central and southern england, and some of us will be seeing some more snow. Good morning. Its thursday the 28th of december. Also this morning an Emergency Medical Team from the uk is deployed to bangladesh to help fight an outbreak of diphtheria affecting Rohingya Muslim refugee camps. How important our bobbies on the beat . Survey found that half of people questioned havent seen a uniformed officer on their streets in the last year. Good morning. Have you finished your Festive Spending yet . Fewer shoppers hit the high street for the boxing day sales, but as ever, more of us went online, so ill be taking a look at how happy the retailers are. In sport, its been a record breaking day for Alastair Cook in melbourne. Hes made a double century and his highest score against australia to give england a healthy first innings lead on day three of the fourth ashes test. It is just after eight oclock. Thank you forjoining us. First, our main story. There are warnings of treacherous driving conditions this morning, as sub zero temperatures cause disruption for a second day across large parts of the uk. Hundreds of people have spent the night at Stansted Airport after flights were cancelled or delayed. The met office has issued yellow weather warnings for ice. Well get the latest forecast from carol in a moment, but first breakfasts Jayne Mccubbin is at the catthorpe interchange in leicestershire. It looks very pretty now the sun is coming up. Yesterday it was a very different scene down here. All three lanes southbound, this is the interchange where the m1 meets the m6. There was a jackknifed lorry and blizzard conditions, and today the met office has issued a yellow weather warning for two reasons. I still developed overnight on areas that havent already been treated, but even on treated areas, rain overnight has washed much of the grit away, and new ice has developed. I am trying to stay in some of the put prints here because you can see that the nice soft snow has just turned into you can see that the nice soft snow hasjust turned into horrible ice underfoot, so you have to be careful as you wake up this morning and head out. The headlines in the midlands are that there are still 500 homes without power today because of yesterdays snow causing outages right across the country. 0vernight, 70,000 homes were reconnected to the grid, so those problems fixed, as well as the yellow weather warnings overnight, there are 11 flood warnings in place because throughout the day this snow is going to thaw and that will raise the water level, with new rain on the way as well. As you said, the problems yesterday at sta nsted, you said, the problems yesterday at stansted, with 300 people who had to sleep on temporary beds overnight because of cancelled flights. It is looking a lot better today, the flights they say will be back on as normal today, although easyjet have just put out a warning saying do check before you travel on any of their flights because they are expecting some delays later on today. We will have the latest with you throughout the morning. Jane, thank you for the update. A team of british doctors, nurses and firefighters will travel to bangladesh to help tackle a deadly outbreak of diphtheria in one of the Worlds Largest refugee camps. The site near the city of coxs bazar is home to more than 600,000 Rohingya Muslims, who have fled persecution in neighbouring myanmar. Its the first time the uks Emergency Medical Team has been deployed since it was certified by the world health 0rganisation last year. The United Nations says children have suffered shocking levels of violence in war zones around the world, during the past year. In a new report, the uns childrens agency, unicef, describes how children have been killed, maimed, used as human shields, or recruited to fight. Its calling on warring factions to abide by international law, and end such violations. The Health Secretary, jeremy hunt, has told the bbc hed like funding for the nhs in england to be planned further ahead. Mr hunt said that he would like spending reviews to span ten years, arguing that this would make things easier for patients and those working in the Health Service. If i was going to do things differently, well, i would like the nhs to move to a system where we had a longer time horizon for planning, instead ofjust the cycle of spending reviews. If we could have a workforce plan, a funding settlement, that perhaps lasted ten years rather than three or four years, i think that would make things a lot easier for people in the system. New Research Suggests nearly half of people in england and wales havent seen a Uniformed Police or Community Support officer walking the beat in their area over the last year. A report by her majestys inspectorate of constabulary also found that three in ten people consider crime and antisocial behaviour to be a problem in their area. Chi chi izundu reports. It was once a very common sight on british streets, the bobby on the beat, high profile, and reassuring. But a new survey suggests that Uniformed Police and Community Support officers are becoming much less visible. I think a presence does make a difference. I think if you see the police on the streets, people are more wary and think more about what they are doing. To be fair, i think the police are doing all right. I think the budget is not enough, but they are doing all they can do. They are doing a good job. The survey by her majestys inspectorate of constabulary and fire and rescue services found four fifths of people asked in england and wales thought it was important to have a regular Police Presence in their area. But in the last year, 44 of people had not seen a Uniformed Police officer patrolling their streets, while a quarter said they felt the Service Provided by local police was getting worse. Budget cuts, Police Numbers are at their worst since 1985, and a shift in resources to focus on things like terrorism and cybercrime are just some of the Reasons Police chiefs say they are not walking the beat as often anymore. In a statement, the Home Office Said it was announcing an increase of Police Funding by up to £450 million for local, national and counterterrorism policing next year. Chi chi izundu, bbc news. Train users could see an end to phones cutting out in tunnels and a big improvement to wifi on trains if new plans to improve britains railways get the go ahead. The government is proposing that fibreoptic cables and mobile masts be rolled out alongside rail tracks to improve connectivity for passengers on all mainline routes by 2025. What really matters is making sure people can get that connection, whether it is through the wi fi or the mobile phone signal, because there is nothing more frustrating than being stuck on a train unable to connect, whether you just need to tell somebody what time you are going to be getting there, or whether you want to work or stream video to make the time go faster. Theres a warning that an increased use of robots in the workplace could widen the gap between rich and poor. A report by the thinktank, the institute for Public Policy research, says new technology could boost productivity but have an impact on low skilled jobs. The government says its committed to making automation work for everyone. I love this next story. Its fabulous, a treat for us all. A baby elephant born on Christmas Day has made its first public appearance at a belgian zoo. We are saying it because we are not quite sure if its a girl or a boy. The birth was captured on video and the infant has been heavily guarded by Family Members in the enclosure since. The calf, which is the ninth asian elephant delivered at the zoo, tried to stand 25 minutes after it was born. Now, it hasnt been named yet, but if you have any suggestions for a boy or girl. We have had some suggestions, chris has tweeted and said, regarding the christmas at the front, for a boy, noel, and for a girl, carol. Im not sure how carol feels about being the namesake for a baby elephant, but it is cute thank you for your suggestions, keep them coming in. It is nine minutes past eight, and we will get the weather with carol in just a few minutes. The plight of hundreds of thousands of rohingya People Living in vast camps in bangladesh is said to be the worlds Fastest Growing refugee crisis. The camps are home to 600,000 people who have fled persecution in neighbouring myanmar. Now an outbreak of deadly diphtheria threatens to make their plight worse. Were joined by Stephanie Chadwick and Duncan Anderson who are part of a british team of medics who are flying out to bangladesh to help tackle the disease. Thank you forjoining us. What will your role be when you are there . We are working as a team. I am specifically a paediatric nurse and we will be working in need if they area we will be working in need if they are a Treatment Centres to try to deal with this crisis. We will be working to try to stem the current outbreak of diphtheria. In the uk we have eradicated it but with the conditions that the rohingya are living in, there are thousands in the camps, and with the onset of the monsoon coming in the new year, we wa nt monsoon coming in the new year, we want to stem this before it gets any worse. So through uk aid and uk met, this is what we will do as a treatment team. With 600,000 needing help, how many people like you are needed out there . There are many ngos out there like msf, but they have requested more assistance. This is the First Time Since our team was formed that we have been going out into the field and bring a wide range of experts, nurses, doctors, epidemiologists, hopefully to break the cycle of the diphtheria. And you are volunteering to go out there . We are volunteering to go out there . We are all volunteers. How do you prepare for a trip like this . We have had excellent Training Provided by uk made, lots of deployments and simulations to try and help us in preparation. For what you are going to see and be dealing with . You have also been to sierra leone. How will this compare . There will be some similarities, things i can draw upon from that, but it is also a very different set of circumstances, a denser population to be dealing with, last time i went after the outbreak and this is very much during the crisis. And how does that affect you . It is very different from working here where we can largely say, or at least there is a support system here. The people you are going to be meeting are displaced, they have no idea about what is happening in the future and they are in a camp where there is concern about more disease spreading and so much uncertainty. That must affect you as well. We have had relative training for that and we are all very specialised in our fields to be able to deal with what we are potentially facing. We are all doing this because it is a potential challenge and it is interesting for us to take part in it. Are you taught to keep a distance . Not necessarily. To do thisjob you distance . Not necessarily. To do this job you have to be distance . Not necessarily. To do thisjob you have to be right distance . Not necessarily. To do this job you have to be right there and involved in what you are doing. Duncan, what are you taking with you . We are taking a lot of medical equipment that has been requested, some of that is going out today. And you have brought some stuff here. We have some treatment drugs that we have some treatment drugs that we have been requested to take, we have ration packs the eating in the field, army style, first aid kits and a lot more equipment like ecg machines to take with us. Where do you stay when you are there . For this deployment we are actually staying in coxs bazaar, because there is no facility for ngos to stay in the camps, but that might change as the situation progresses. The United Nations will assess that and see about housing people in the camps. You mentioned before that diphtheria is pretty much eradicated here in the uk because immunisation is standard, but can you tell us, for people who dont know, what the symptoms arent how bad it can get, it is contagious . It is a contagious upper respiratory bacteria, but it is preventable and has been eradicated here, but due to the population is spreading out there. There have already been 22 deaths of children, it is children and the elderly who are mostly susceptible, it swells up the airwaves and they cant breathe, so they end up choking to death. But with the right treatment, in 48 hours they can be cured. So simple and effective, if we can get in there and sort it, these children will live. Wendy you fly . There is a team of us flying tomorrow, today, sorry, and we are flying on the 30th. We wish you all the best. Thank you. And so many people will be so grateful for your help, your time and expertise, so we wish you well. Thank you very much. We have been talking about the severe disruption because of the snow and ice yesterday. We can show you a live shot from kat near rugby. Disruption on the roads in that area. And of course icy conditions, what you would expect at this time of year, but they still conditions that you need to be mindful of, especially if you are and about. Carol can bring us up to date. Good morning. Good advise there, naga. The met 0ffice good advise there, naga. The met office has out a lot of yellow weather warnings for ice. You can see the kinds of temperatures we are looking at at the moment. Almost tropical in manchester there is not much wind around. The strongest winds will be in the north west, north east of scotland. Its a northerly wind, a cold direction and we have a weather front into the south west bringing patchy rain with it. Tomorrow, some of us will see some snow. This morning, still the risk of ice on untreated surfaces. She or rain across the coast in scotland. For the rest of scotland and Northern England, mostly dry and its going to bea england, mostly dry and its going to be a gorgeous day if you like it sunny, it will just to be a gorgeous day if you like it sunny, it willjust be cold. Ice in central and southern areas and into the south west. A lot of beautiful, winter sunshine. Not feeling as cold as yesterday because the wind isnt as strong but it will still be cold if you are heading out. In wales, some wintry showers. Still the risk of ice across Northern Ireland. You will see sunny spells as well. Later, it will cloud over from the west. For most, it will be dry. Snow showers continue in northern scotland and the northern isles. A keen northerly wind. Snow into cheshire and north wales. Later, the weatherfront comes in across the isles of scilly, heading in towards cornwall and the Channel Islands introducing some patchy rain. Through the evening, with the lack of breeze, the temperature will drop very quickly. It will be a cold night tonight. Again, therell be the risk of ice. We have got an active weather front coming in across the west, introducing strengthening winds and also rain with snow on the hills of Northern Ireland and wales. As we head through the course of tomorrow, this will be pushing north and east. As it crosses the south, you will find its rain and gusty winds. Gales with exposure through the English Channel. As it moves across the far north midlands into Northern England and southern england, its going to bring some more snow. For some, we could see a couple of centimetres of snow, especially with height. It should tend to peter out in the afternoon though. Temperature wise, a change in air mass and wind direction, so its going to turn that bit milder behind the rain. Sunshine and showers in the rain. Sunshine and showers in the south west. Cold if you are stuck in the rain and snow as we push up into scotland. For saturday, again, weve got some showery outbreaks across the west and the south. Look at the temperatures though. In the north, for scotland and Northern England, therell be some rain and once again on the hills and at lower level, well see some further spells of snow. Temperatures, fives and sixes in the north, 12s and 13s as we push further south. Into sunday, the weather remains unsettled. You can see wet and windy conditions pushing away from the south east on to the near continent. Behind, it will still be breezy. Dry weather around and sunny spells with a few showers. The rain across scotland and Northern England pushing off into the north sea with showers following in behind. Temperature wise, falling a little bit. Still pretty mild for this stage of the year in the south, 1113. If this stage of the year in the south, 11 13. If you are out to celebrate hogmanay or new yearseve, clear spells, so cold but not as cold as its going to be for example tonight. We are looking at a chilly breeze and passing showers, most of which will tend to be in the west. Many of us will tend the miss the showers. Still unsettled up to new year, tina and naga. Lets take a look at todays papers. Lets start with the mirror. £500,000 a day in nhs car park rip off is the headline. Few rye, they say, as charges for hospital patients, staff and visitors hit a record £175 million in total. That is how much they made from parking last year. Some Police Stories on some of the front pages. The daily mail going with the story we are looking at as well, people not seeing bobbies patrolling the beat in the last year. Met Police Failing to protect children. The force criticised for negligence in 90 of cases, taking a look at Scotland Yard. The sun, totally clueless, saying police are failing to identify suspects in 50 of crimes. Also shares hit high in brexit boost on the left hand side. That is what you are looking at . Yes, that was yesterday, the ftse 100 you are looking at . Yes, that was yesterday, the ftse100 hit a record high. Is it brexit . 100 Biggest Companies listed on the stock exchange. Is it brexit partly because you can see that brexit caused that drop in sterling across currencies around the world so sterling got weaker. If you do the maths, thats good for the profits. The markets open again at 8 this morning, they are up another seven or eight points, so on course to end the year on a record high. Just thought i would butt in there. like it when you butt in just before you put it down frontpage of the daily telegraph. Picture of snow yesterday. We didnt get a White Christmas but that was worcestershire yesterday, very pretty. Cataract delays blinding patients. They say average waits are almost six months in the worst areas, an increase of 50 in some parts. Footballers still playing despite the weather. I was going to go on the weather. I was going to go on the hook of the record high actually because, if you can see the daily express here, in all the papers actually, this is a story that broke late last night. Virgil van dijk has become the record signing for a defender. Liverpool are paying £75 million for him. Its the end of a long running saga. Hes leaving southampton who didnt want to sell him over the summer. They were willing to sell him but not for £60 million offered in the summer. They are now getting £15 million extra. Is he worth £75 million or do liverpool so badly need a decent defender . It means liverpool really badly need a defender but also prices in football have sky rocketed. We saw the sale of neymar over the summer. Ridiculous amounts of money. Normally the record breaking deals are normally for strikers so this is interesting its £75 million for a defender. Kyle walker went for £50 million in the summer and the prices keep spiralling. Thats not a slight increase, you know, thats £25 million more than what they paid for kyle walker. Its nuts. The pressure is on for him to really prove himself. That half of Virgil Van Dijk himself. That half of virgil van dukis himself. That half of Virgil Van Dijk is being put into wi fi on trains in the uk. We were talking about this earlier. The daily telegraph, end of the line for poor phone signals on trains, so anybody whos tried to access the internet on trains around the uk, generally you might have a frustrating experience around it so. They are saying, there is a plan in place, consultations start today on the ideas that by 2025 we should all have super fast wi fi. You will be able the stream all the videos. Its one of those places now, you stop looking at your phone, i quite like it because you cant get online any more. How much time did you spend on your hair this morning . What . there is a link to that, but, as you might imagine, very little marvellous effort there. Not quite as good as some of the darts players we have been seeing. More and more interesting and show busy i think . Yes. Interesting hair cuts there. There are. This is snakebite, peter wright, the number two seed in ally pally. That is a hair style that nagas been admiring all morning, i have to say. Look at that, thats something straight out of the 80s isnt it, punk rock scene. Well have the story of an underdog though, jamie lewis defeating the number two seed snake bite. He spent too much time on his hair. Yes and not on the game. Thats what happens im going to work on that. Ive been looking for a new style. Ill help you out. Im sure you will. Sean, thank you very much. Still to come. I had a single mom raise me, it was the most important relationship of my life, the most impactful and inspirational and the most big struggles. But by the time most of us wa ke warmly. But by the time most of us wake up, it is going to be feeling milder, so we have this mild air along with plenty of rain around, and the wind will pick up. Wet and windy spills over the course of the weekend, and it will be a mild end to the year. Im back with the latest from the bbc london newsroom in half an hour. Plenty more on our website at the usual address. Now though its back to tina and naga. Bye for now. Hello this is breakfast, with tina daheley and naga munchetty. Good morning. First, our main story. There are warnings of treacherous driving conditions this morning, as sub zero temperatures cause disruption for a second day across large parts of the uk. Hundreds of people have spent the night at Stansted Airport after flights were cancelled or delayed. The met office has issued yellow weather warnings for ice. Well get the latest forecast from carol in a moment, but first breakfasts Jayne Mccubbin is at the catthorpe interchange in leicestershire. It is an interesting interchange, but we have seen some unfortunate incidents. This is where the m1 meets the m6. A golden sunrise, lots of snow on the fields, but yesterday, this was absolutely gridlocked because of blizzard conditions down here. A lorry jackknifed on this southbound lane towards london blocking all three lanes of the motorway. And although it is moving freely now, we have had this yellow weather warning for ice from the met office. Two problems as you are waking up this morning. 0ne two problems as you are waking up this morning. One is the fresh eyes on the areas that did not previously have problems, were not previously gritted. Fresh ice. And then where the rain has fallen and the treatment has been washed away, there is fresh ice in place. Look at this pathway. You can see yesterdays footprints made in what was once lovely crisp snow. And now it is absolutely frozen solid. Incredibly treacherous underfoot. That is why you have got to be careful heading out this morning. In the midlands there are still 500 houses in this area without power this morning. 500 houses waiting to get back onto the grid. 0vernight 70,000 houses were reconnected after problems with the snow yesterday. You will have heard already that some of the problems overnight at sta nsted some of the problems overnight at Stansted Airport should be coming to an end today. 300 passengers had to camp out in the terminals there because their flights were cancelled yesterday. The runway was closed down twice because of ice and snow. Today Stansted Airport expect flights to return to normal. There have been warnings this morning from easyj et, have been warnings this morning from easyjet, saying expect delays if you are flying with them. I guess the message is do check if you are travelling anywhere today, flying anywhere today, check what the weather conditions are like near you and do take care. Thank you very much. And you too. Be careful with thatice much. And you too. Be careful with that ice underfoot. Is obviously assertive yet entertaining. He is obviously assertive yet entertaining. Look at the skills slightly distracting for motorists perhaps. I said that earlier. You can moonwalk which i have never mastered. I say that. Can moonwalk which i have never mastered. Isay that. Itry. And if you dont try, you dont get and it is 8 34am, so time for englands cricketers, who are doing remarkably well. They are doing brilliantly but it is too little, too late. The story of the day is Alastair Cook. Records tumbling everywhere. Story of the day is Alastair Cook. Records tumbling eve rywhere. M story of the day is Alastair Cook. Records tumbling everywhere. It is not too little, too late. They have proven that they can come back but the reason they were in australia was to win the ashes and it didnt happen. Now they are kicking it. Too late. We will hold onto that it is all about Alastair Cook because it has been a brilliant day for him in melbourne. He finished on 244 not out, closing a mammoth 250. Lets talk to our Sports Reporter patrick gea rey talk to our Sports Reporter Patrick Gearey in melbourne for us. Lucky man to be able to watch this. The day firmly belongs to Alastair Cook. And what the turnaround in form for the former england captain. Certainly. Going into this match some questioned whether Alastair Cook still had the appetite to score ru ns cook still had the appetite to score runs for england. He had scored so many after also did he still want it . 24 hours at the crease and 244 ru ns it . 24 hours at the crease and 244 runs later, we have our answer. Englands first innings score now near to 500 and they have a big lead and so much that is down to Alastair Cook. There was a danger they might blow their strong overnight position. Joe root, the captain, failed to turn 50 into 100 again and the middle order struggle. Malan went, Jonny Bairstow went, they try to slog their care the way that it didnt work. Alastair cook about 50 of his own which infuriated the australians. And the moment of the day was when he passed 200, a great moment for him, personal achievement. He actually went further than that and became the top scoring visiting batsman in a test match at the mcg, tribute to his resilience, fitness and concentration. We were waiting for the press conference after play had finished and we heard the england players applauding him. They know how important that innings was. They almost certainly will not be whitewashed now. They are confident of actually winning this match. I asked Alastair Cook afterwards if he had any doubts himself. About myself, for 12 years, and i will probably continue to doubt myself and the longer it goes, the harder it becomes. I suppose that is why i am quite proud of the way i played la st am quite proud of the way i played last night. Doing well again and delivering a performance like that was pleasing, it isjust a shame that it was pleasing, it isjust a shame thatitis was pleasing, it isjust a shame that it is four weeks too late. I will have to live with that for a long time. But it is nice. Just picking up on what Alastair Cook said, he has proven to how spectacular he is. He and stuart broad put in fantastic performances but why has it taken england so long to get going . Why has it taken until the fourth test . That is the Million Dollar question. It is one that england would struggle to a nswer that england would struggle to answer but i will have a go. It is a lot to do with the fact that australia have not quite been themselves. They are missing mitchell starc, the top wicket taker in this series. Bird got around all time from the barmy army today. There is collective spirit in the england team wanting to put right what has gone wrong and the it is helpful. There are still two days left. England have not finished the job. They want a victory and not simplya job. They want a victory and not simply a draw. We will keep our fingers crossed for that. Patrick gea rey fingers crossed for that. Patrick gearey in melbourne, thank you for joining us. That is what i am going to do right now tina the champ, by the way. what i am going to do right now tina the champ, by the way. I would be naga the chump now from chump to forrest gump, seamless for most of us, crossing the United States in a car would be a challenge, and doing it on foot would be unthinkable. And doing it on foot not for our next guest. And doing it on foot inspired by the film forrest gump, robert pope from liverpool has already run across the usa four times since 2016 and clocked up over 13,000 miles. Times since 2016 and clocked up before we talk to him about his plans to attempt a fifth crossing, lets have a look at some of the places hes visited. So this is the road that leads to death valley, the hottest place on earth apparently. To death valley, the hottest place you have had the build up, the emotional music and the feeling of greatness. And robjoins us now. Greatness. It greatness. Is interesting to see the route that it is interesting to see the route that you have been tracking. It is interesting to see the route that you have been trackingm it is interesting to see the route that you have been tracking. It is more frightening for me, looking back. You have not been doing it for long. You embarked on yourfirst one in 2016. What inspired you to do that . My mum told me to do one thing in my life that made a difference. It was nice to combine a hobby stroke passion of mine into something i could hopefully make into a big thing for two causes that i believe in. Why did she tell you to do that . It is a time when people everywhere should be doing what we can, stand up and be counted. It is a very important time in our history. Lets make a difference. know your mum is not around any more but did she see you do at least one of the miles . She didnt u nfortu nately of the miles . She didnt unfortunately but i am sure she is looking down somewhere. There is making a difference and there is running across the length of america five times that is incredible. What we re five times that is incredible. What were the toughest bits . I know you we re were the toughest bits . I know you were running through scorching temperatures and snow as well. Yes, the weather is something you deal with. It is getting injured at only 400 miles in and sobbing over a sports drink and a cereal bar in a gas station while the lady asks me what was wrong. That was really tough. I thought that was it. Fortu nately tough. I thought that was it. Fortunately i managed to persevere and get over it. What was the injury . I had tendinitis which is usually a six to eight week lay off. I had arrest of six to eight hours and then i crossed my fingers. Just remind us how many marathons it is the equivalent of that you have run already. The equivalent of 507 marathons. That puts it in perspective. Incredible. You are setting out again injanuary because in the film forrest gump does it five times and this is the last bit. And your baby is due at the end of march. How does your partner feel about that . I think she knows that ifi about that . I think she knows that if i didnt finish it, she would never hear the end of it, me moaning for the rest of my life. She wants me to get it out of the way and she has been very supportive. Get the baby out of the way or the running . The running i am aiming to finish on the 10th of march and the baby is due on the 27th. That is cutting it fine. I know. I will have due on the 27th. That is cutting it fine. I know. Iwill have to due on the 27th. That is cutting it fine. I know. I will have to get my skates on. I would come home if i had to. What will be the Biggest Challenges . The weather hampered you at various stages. What about this time . I have got a friend in texas who informs me with a slight smile that late january and february is when they like to get ice storms. They sound awful. But i think more just, you know, the fear of being on the road, having trucks past your ear. I willjust keep each day at the time. You must meet some fascinating people along the way. You know in the film and people ran with forrest gump . Do they run with you . Do you stop to talk to them . will stop. Any excuse for arrest is gladly taken i have met a neurobiologist, backwards fishermen, and actually the lawyer for rem, which was pretty cool. What is a backwards fishman . Backwoods fishman. What are the causes . Wwf. When forrest gump runs across the reporter says why you doing this, well peace, the animals, and between those charities they managed to tick all of those boxes and the more you read about the work, the more i am staggered and it isa work, the more i am staggered and it is a huge motivating factor for me now. Whenever i am feeling down, i go onto one of the website and then, hang on, i dont have it so bad here. A great cause. Thank you for coming in to talk to us. Good luck, youre a legend thank you. And good luck with the baby. Ive heard its really easy. Chuckles moving on. Lets get some weather from carol. Good morning good morning. Rob will need his skates on if he is running this morning, it is icy. Ice warnings that scotland, Northern Ireland, wales, central and southern scotland. They are valid until 11 oclock this morning. If you are out on the roads all the pavements, do ta ke on the roads all the pavements, do take it easy. Also some further snow falling in the highlands and grampians and northern isles, sleet and rain on the coast but for the rest of england it is dry, chris and sunny. From the midlands and east anglia and southern counties, the risk of ice. That runs out at 11am. And again, a lot of sunshine. Crisp winter sunshine. It will be a Beautiful Day, albeit on the cold side. In wales, the risk of ice and afair bit side. In wales, the risk of ice and a fair bit of sunshine, on or two showers, most of us missing them but they could have a wintry element. They should be disruptive. The Northern Ireland, this ice warning ru ns Northern Ireland, this ice warning runs out at 11am and still a fair bit of sunshine a brown. For most of us, thats the story of the day. A beautiful, crisp and sunny day. Snow showers continuing across scotland, a few wintry showers in cheshire, the pennines on internet and. As you can see, most of us will miss them. Are it wont it was raw but it will be cold. A week weather front bringing some showery outbreaks in southwest. With the lack of a breeze, temperatures will drop quite rapidly. A cold night for most of us than the one just gone. A new active weather front comes in from the west introducing rain and strengthening winds and snow which on the hills of Northern Ireland and into wales. These temperatures, 3, 2, are indicative of towns and cities. Widely it will be 3 to minus five. In scotland it could fall as low as 13 in scotland it could fall as low as 13 where there is lying snow. We picked up the system, as it scoot across southern counties will take some and gusting winds. But we also have snow falling across the north midlands, Northern England into southern scotland and possibly in as far north as the Central Lowlands. Some of seeing a few centimetres of snow from this but it should tend to peter out in the afternoon. Look at the difference, cold in the north and a bit milder in the south west. As we head into saturday, a lot of dry weather but still wet and windy in the south. Wet and windy with some snow in the north but much milder in london and cardiff, 12 13. The new years eve, still a lot of dry weather around. Yes there is some rain and snow but mild in the south, more chilly in the north and as for the midnight hour clear spells, chilly breeze passing showers, most of which will be in west. It is unusual seeing really cold and really mild, flip flopping isnt it . Yes, it is, it is unusual. Were having a change of air mass. If you have northerly and north westerly it is cold, windy pull in the south westerly, the temperature goes up. Thank you very much, have a lovely day its all about wearing layers when its like that. Iam its like that. I am with you plenty of parents will tell you its hard to let go when it comes to looking after your children. So what would happen if you could use technology to keep them totally safe . Thats the idea behind a new episode of black mirror, the series that takes a satirical look at modern life. Its directed by double 0scar winner, jodie foster and when she spoke to charlie, their conversation inevitably turned to parenthood. I am 2000 years old, and i remember when we used to open up the door and just let the kids be. Sarah . Sarah hey, hey lady, ifound her. God, im so sorry. So lets talk about arkangel. Tell us a bit about the idea. My episode arkangel is a mother daughter story. It starts when the child is born and it ends when the child leaves her to go off to start her life and theres a device that controls the childs safety. So i guess thats what i can tell you. It comes to that thing, which all parents have, about how much do you want to know about your childs life . Yeah, i guess theres that. Theres, obviously this device that helps keep her child safe and we all want that, we want to keep our child from being hit by a car, from being bitten by a dog, from bad things happening to them, but over the course of applying this technology, she starts living vicariously through her daughter, in a way, and there are other issues that come about, about this symbiosis, this desperate connection between mother and child, that the child ultimately find a way to become independent of. Youre a parent. Iam. So, weve all been there. You were talking about dividing things up, the point at which you go thats their life but i need to know about their life. Right. How do you work that one through . My kids are grown now, so im now. Not totally grown, but im at the other end of the spectrum. My older sons 19, my little ones 16, so, yeah, dealing with sexuality with your children and theres so many mixed messages, notjust as a parent but specifically as a mother towards children, towards female children especially. This wanting your child to be free from fear, and not wanting them to live the kinds of things you had to live as a woman, and yet wanting to break their kneecaps when they run away from you. So its a strange relationship. I had a single mum who raised me and it was a very tight, the most important relationship of my life, the most impactful, the most foundational and also a big struggle, so this has a lot to do with that. I have children almost exactly the same age as yours and we all know that thing of kind of wanting to know about their lives, but knowing full well that youve got to separate out at some point, they have to have their own stuff. Yeah. Some of this is just about the general problems with parenting and some of it is looking deeply at the psychology of a specific character who comes to the movie flawed. Shes not quite right and you get hints of what it may have been that shaped her in her life, even if theyre small things. I really love movies about the tiny little small details. Its something im always drawn to, the little tapestry of clues that we all give with each other. Some of the black mirrors are different genres. Some of them are horror films that are big and scary and have frightening parts to them, and some of them are satirical. This one is the delicate, subtle, thoughtful episode. As an actor, whenjodie foster is directing. Right. You might think some people would find that ever so slightly intimidating. Really . Maybe thats an outsiders view of what the actor director relationship is like. Given your career and everything youve done, do they quite quickly get over that . I dont think theres an actor whos worked with me as a director whos been intimidated by me at all. I think if anything, i think its a real relief to have the person whos leading you and whos there to support you, understand what it is that you go through every day and able to have the same language. So i think i talk to the actors differently than most directors do. I think i participate with them a little bit, because ive been there, so i know what their problems are, and i dont intervene as much as most directors do. I have enough respect for actors to know that im there to support what they bring to the process, so i dont try to change them, i dont try manicure their performance. Im busy kind of applauding what theyve done and trying to shepherd them in certain directions. Thank you so much for your time. Thank you. You can tell charlie enjoyed interviewing jodie cotinuing the black mirror theme, were joined now by actorjoe cole who stars in another episode of the new series. You may also recognise him from his role asjohn shelby in the bbcs Peaky Blinders. Good morning. How you doing . Are you well . Yes, thank you. We are very mindful we cant spoil things. No spoilers and there are a lot what you want to talk about, black mirror or Peaky Blinders . Lets start with the one thats on. Its a cult following, where you a fan before you did the show . Yes, i loved it. I particularly responded to this episode. Its about dating apps and the future of dating apps and where they could or could not go with a black mirror Charlie Brooker spin on it. Have you used a dating app . No. Ever . Really . Ive dabbled but its not really my thing. Ive got a lot of friends had a lot of success with dating apps. But for me. Not so good for you, a bit cold . No, have you . Ive been married for a long time. Ive been in a relationship for a long time so i havent used any. Ive been married for ten years. I just left my ring. Quite an odd world. Do you everfeel with technology, Charlie Brooker, a lot of these black mirrors allude to his technology is interfering a bit too much and we are becoming slaves to it. Yes, i think its very close to the bone, isnt it . Hes touched on it so well in previous series. He often predicts the future in some sort of way. This one, again, without giving too much away, we look at the next level of dating app where they kind of. They know you better than you do. The dating app knows your personality and it knows who you will, or you need to be in a relationship. It explores you dating various different people and then the length of time which going to be dating them. How do we jump from that to Peaky Blinders . A lot of people will be watching who know something about your character. Anyone watching now, spoiler coming up, five seconds, five, four, three, two, one. Youre no longer in it, you done . Yes. How did it feel . Its something i kind of suggested early on because i was doing other things, like black mirror and various other films. It was just becoming too difficult to fit it all in. I thought to help the show moved forward it would be nice to kind of let myself go and have other people come forward and take on. I think its worked out well. I thought the way it all ended was actually kind of great. I went down fighting, which is mike character is from world war i and a soldier and that sort of stuff. I am fully addressed with pea ky sort of stuff. I am fully addressed with Peaky Blinders. Bereft when its over. Really excited its back on. It seems like its a lot of fun. A lot of scenes where you are altogether, is that unusual . Its great fun. My little brother is in it, finn. All the guys. Brother is in it, finn. All the guys, paul anderson, all brother is in it, finn. All the guys, paulanderson, all the brother is in it, finn. All the guys, paul anderson, all the girls, all the guys, paul anderson, all cillian, we together and its ensemble scene. Its great fun. With assets big wedding scenes, big banquets, its a lot of fun. Theres a lot of naughtiness and a lot of pranks. We will have to get you on again. You have fourfilms coming up and we have no time to talk about them but they are out there. Come on and talk to against white definitely. Black mirror is available on netflix tomorrow. Thats it from us this morning. Ill be back tomorrow with jon from 6am. Until then, goodbye. This is bbc news. Im ben brown. The headlines at nine warnings of treacherous driving conditions across large parts of the uk as sub zero temperatures cause disruption for a second day. Im in the midlands, where drivers are being told to watch out for black ice. 500 homes still without power, and the met office has issued 11 flood warnings across britain. More evacuations of syrian children, but theres no relief for hundreds still trapped in a suburb near damascus. Also in the next hour the Health Secretary tells bbc
