This Cardboard Box maker in leamington is in one segment of the economy that is now growing more quickly than it did ten years ago. Manufacturing. The orders have been coming in fast enough that it is hitting obstacles to further growth, like finding enough staff and materials to meet those orders. That is where the economists think inflation can become a risk. But growth, compared to last year, has slowed down. Last year we had double digit growth. We had a fantastic year last year. This year we still have growth but organic growth from existing accounts. And we have been lucky enough to win some new business. But not of the scale of last year. Our sales team have been distracted in negotiations, price increases and things like that. So this year is not quite as good, but still very positive. Construction was easily the worst performing sector of the economy. Its shrunk now for six months, that is technically a recession. And in the last quarter it was down by 0. 7 , that is its worst performance in five years. It was much better with industrial production, that was up by 1. 0 . Mainly because of carmaking and other manufacturing activities. Services grew by 0. 4 . That is better than expected, but not as good as it was back in the boom days. The troubles of the Construction Industry were more than offset by other industry is doing better than expected. Including Business Services like Information Technology and finance. It is a solid performance by the uk economy in the Third Quarter and it has outperformed Market Expectations as the uk economy has done overall since the referendum. And what it shows is the underlying fundamental strengths of this economy. Oecd, imf, obr, all those independent forecasters have said growth is pulling back, wages stagnating. But more importantly, productivity is stagnating. So we are falling behind our competitors in this budget that is coming up, it has got to change direction. On the money markets the betting is that Interest Rates are 80 likely to rise next week. But not everyone thinks that they should go up. It is a difficult one to call. I think of the one hand you have got inflation which is at the higher level than mpc members are comfortable with. But the performance of the economy is not exactly firing on all cylinders. I think some of the communications from the bank recently would indicate a majority will see this as a green light to press ahead with a quarter point increase next week. If rates rise a week tomorrow, only a minority of the population will face higher costs. As only a minority have a mortgage. And many of them have fixed rates. If the official rate goes up is expected to 0. 5 , it will still be lower than it has been for most of the last 300 years. Andy verity, bbc news. Our business editor, simon jack, is here. Lets start with that thought. What could it mean for Interest Rates . The bank of england have been dropping heavy hints recently that it would like to increase Interest Rates. They cut them after the referendum vote. The dire warnings about what would happen to the economy after that didnt materialise. A lot of people think that cut was a mistake. They have been looking for an opportunity to put it back up. If only to give them ammunition. If there is trouble in the future you cant go anywhere from 2. 5. It gives them blue water between here and zero. Some people on variable rate mortgages may seek a small rise. The budget is next month. What does this mean for the chancellor . He has been under a lot of pressure lately. The office for budget responsibility has said he will have less money to play with over the future. And he is under a lot of pressure to loosen some of the austerity, increase Public Sector pay rates, which we saw in recent weeks. From his point of view, a stronger economy is better. This was better than expected. In his view, every little helps. This isa his view, every little helps. This is a little bit of help for him. Simonjack, is a little bit of help for him. Simon jack, thank you. The brexit secretary has said that parliament might not get a vote on any brexit deal, until after the uk leaves the eu. David davis told a committee of mps that he hopes to get an agreement finalised with the European Commission by the time the uk leaves in 2019, but ratification could happen after that date. Ben wright reports. As we head towards our departure from the eu in 2019, parliament is scrutinising the governments strategy. It will have the vote on the terms of the exit deal ministers are negotiating. But today the brexit secretary said that may have to happen after the uk has left. Be undertaken that we have given. It could be after march 2019 . Undertaken that we have given. It could be after march 20mm undertaken that we have given. It could be after march 2019 . It could be. It depends how it concludes. The vote of the Uk Parliament could be after march 2019 . Yes, it could be. David davies says negotiations could go to the wire. There is a clock ticking on their talks and deadlines to hit. It is no secret that the way the union makes its decisions tends to be at the 11th minute etc. That is what i would expect to happen here. We are under pressure. Very exciting for people watching. He also spelt out the governments position not to spell out the terms of divorce from the eu, but to negotiate a whole new trade deal. What we are aiming for is the conclusion of negotiations on all fronts on the grounds that nothing has been agreed by march 2019. The eno the eu negotiators have said a trade deal could take years to complete. Both sides playing high stakes complete. Both sides playing high sta kes political poker. Complete. Both sides playing high stakes political poker. David davis also said the government hopes to get the crux of a two year transition agreement nailed down within with the eu by the start of next year. Something businesses are demanding more loudly every week. In the commons afterwards, theresa may was pressed by mps on the role parliament will have in agreeing the final brexit deal. Can the Prime Minister explain how it is possible to have a meaningful vote on something that has already taken place . I am confident because it is in the interest on both sides. There will be ratification by parliament and other parliaments that we will be able to achieve that negotiation in time for this parliament to have the vote we commissioned. One mp shedder channels. The government is confident but there is clearly uncertainty about the course brexit will take. Ben wright, westminster. Labour has suspended the mp jared omara, while an investigation is carried out into comments he made online. Omara, the mp for sheffield hallam, has apologised for misogynistic and homophobic comments he posted 15 years ago but hes also been accused of verbally assaulting a woman in his constituency earlier this year. Vicki young is in westminster. What is labour saying today . The pressure has really been growing on the labour leadership to take action. Some of their own mps, particularly female mps, felt more needed to be done. Mr amaan had apologised for posting comments many yea rs apologised for posting comments many years ago, some of which were sexist. Mr mara. Some of them we re sexist. Mr mara. Some of them were homophobic. He made an apology to his colleagues and that seems to be accepted. He said he had been on a journey, he had moved on. But yesterday a woman came forward saying that only this year, just before the general election, he had used similar language towards her. That is something that mr omara has categorically denied. But it has led today to labour saying they have launched an investigation. The shadow chancellor saying he has been suspended, the whip has been withdrawn and there will be an investigation. It is the same with anybody, if they have not abided by the rules of the labour party, sanctions will be applied. This limestone, theresa may made the point that parliamentarians had a particular duty to hold high standards. All of us in this house should have due care and attention to the way in which we refer to other people, and should show women in public life the respect that they deserve. Mr omara has denied the most recent allegations. The investigation will continue. Vicki young. President trump has come under fire from two republican senators, accusing him of damaging us politics and lowering the countrys standing abroad. Jeff flake said he was standing down in 2019, because he could not be complicit with what he called the reckless and undignified behaviour in the white house. Senator bob corker called mr trump an utterly untruthful leader. Jon donnison has the latest. There is flash photography in this report. Its almost a year since donald trump ripped up the rule book to win the us election. A presidency of constant controversy. And within his own party, some have had enough. The senator from arizona. Jeff flake has been a long time critic of the president , but when he took to the senate floor to announce he will stand down next year, few were expecting such a blistering assault. We must never adjust to the present coarseness of our national dialogue, with the tone set at the top. We must never meekly accept the daily sundering of our country. The personal attacks, the threats against principles, freedoms and institution, the flagrant disregard for truth and decency. And in the corridors of congress, jeff flake not the only republican senator attacking a republican president. Much of what he says is untrue. These things are provably untrue, i mean, they arejust factually incorrect, and people know the difference. So i dont know why he lowers himself to such a low, low standard, and debases our country in the way that he does, but he does. Mr corker has been feuding with the white house for weeks. His latest comments came after an ea rly morning tweet from president trump, which labelled the senator incompetent and a lightweight. The people of this country elected someone the people of this country elected someone to be strong and when he gets hit he is going to hit back. And i think senator corker knows that and hes maybe trying to get a headline or two on his way out the door. Donald trump and his supporters say bob corker and jeff flake are the kind of republicans they dont want in the party anyway. But without them, its going to be hard to get anything done. The slender republican majority in the senate has already seen the president fail to pass a single piece of major legislation. Donald trump was on capitol hill yesterday to talk about tax reform. He walked into protests of a different kind. Treason the president increasingly finds himself under attack from all sides. Half of all british women, and a fifth of men, have been sexually harassed at work or a place of study according to a survey carried out by the bbc. Of the women who said they had been harassed, nearly two thirds said they didnt report it to anyone. Adina campbell has been looking at the findings. Inappropriatejokes. Obscene behaviour. Unwelcome sexual advances. Just some examples of Sexual Harassment which women and men have faced according to a survey for bbc 5 live. Emily was sexually assaulted during a Job Interview at the age of 16. The man who abused her was in his 50s. I was frozen, i didnt know what to do with myself. And then i thought i was in the wrong. When i left i couldnt process what actually happened. I remember ringing a couple of friends and asking if things were normal. And it got fed through to teachers and then my parents and we did end up reporting it. The survey found more than half of women have experienced Sexual Harassment at work or in a place of study. Around two thirds of men and women who had been harassed said they did not report it. And more women than men said they were targeted by a boss or senior manager. In the last couple of weeks the scale of this type of abuse has been shared on social media after allegations of Sexual Assault by the hollywood producer harvey weinstein. Since then women and men have been sharing their own personal stories using the hashtag me too. A campaign that dates back more than a decade. My ultimate goal is to make sure this is notjust a moment, that this is definitely a movement and we will continue to raise our voices, we will continue to disrupt and continue to tell our stories until we are heard and until we move the needle. Politicians here are also now making a stand. So many things have happened to me and im only 40. I do think we need to be saying if so many women are coming forward and saying this is part of their daily lives, what are we all doing about it . Who are the people doing this, why do they think its ok . What are we doing to say this is not a culture, this is not a crime that were going to tolerate. The survey also found that one in ten women who had been harassed left theirjob or place of study. Something businesses, schools and colleges, will be hoping to change. Adina campbell, bbc news. Our top story this lunchtime. The economy grew slightly more than expected in the three months to september increasing the likelihood that Interest Rates will go up next week. And still to come well hear from the british explorer hoping to become the first man to cross the antarctic totally on his own. Coming up in sport. Well hear from englands women as they look to level the ashes series against australia. They are in Coffs Harbour ahead of their one day match. With the position of president xijinping consolidated by the communist party in china, speculation is now growing that president xi wants to stay in office beyond the allotted 10 year term. The new Politburo Committee unveiled yesterday the six men who will serve alongside him for his second term in office includes no obvious young successor. Heres our china correspondentjohn sudworth. A packed hall waits for the results of the mysterious and secretive process at the heart of one of the worlds powerful states. Now pleasejoin me in a warm applause to greet the general secretary and other Political Bureau Standing Committee members. And then, out they come. The only certainty, the man at the front. But behind president xi are the handful of men who are to rule china for the next five years. It is a well established tradition, but this time, something is missing. Among the faces of seasoned career bureaucrats, there is no obvious young leader in waiting. Let us warmly welcome general secretary xijinping. This break with precedent will fuel speculation over whether he intends to break another the two term limit for chinese leaders. The press conference, if it can be called that, was notable for another reason a number of Major International news organisations were not invited. The economist, the financial times, the guardian newspaper, the new york times, and the bbc. This is about as close as weve been able to get. It may be no coincidence of course, that all of those organisations produce the kind ofjournalism to which the authorities regularly object. We should never entertain the idea. For those who were in the hall, mr xi had some advice. Translation we do not need lavish praise from others. However, we do welcome objective reporting and constructive suggestions. Applause. And with that, mr xi walked off to begin his second term in office. His consolidation of power is now complete. The only question, how long he intends to hang on to it. John sutcliffe, bbc news, beijing. Our china editor Carrie Gracie is in beijing. Do we take from this that he wants to go on and on . I think what you can take from it, he will go on and on and in some form, whether it is in office is another question. The last strong leader china had, dumb xiaoping in the 1990s, he had no more important formal offers than the head of the Bridge Association but he was still the veteran revolutionary who made the crucial decisions. So for my money at the end of the day it does not matter whether xi jinping end of the day it does not matter whether xijinping decides end of the day it does not matter whether xi jinping decides to stay for another term not, if he has decided he will be calling the shots in china and that there is no challenger, you can see his influence decades ahead. What were seeing now i think is a return to something that looks at least like the one man rule of chairman mao and of course yesterday xi jinping got his name into the constitution and today he made sure there was no successor to steal his limelight over the next five years. And ready for the first time in a long time the fate of china rests heavily on the fate of china rests heavily on the shoulders of one man. Thank you. Snapchat has become the latest social media platform to fall foul of advertising rules. Two posts on snapchat by a reality tv star were found, by the advertising standards agency, to have breached rules against hidden advertising on social media. Enna miller explains. Just because im not a newbie doesnt mean to say i cant have fun and get involved Marnie Simpson is best known for this. She initially found fame as a reality tv star on mtvs geordie shore. With fame comes the potential for product placement. And on twitter she does it all the time. Teeth whitening strips for diamond white, colour lenses by ispyeyes. But on snapchat her frequent promotion of products have now got her into trouble with the advertising standards authority. Back injune she uploaded two snapchat stories. Although the snapchats themselves were deleted within 2a hours, these two images were captured. Mentioning two products. Responding to a complaint, the asa ruled her snapchat story was an advert. The first case of its kind involving snapchat. If brands do a deal with celebrities or social influencers, where they pay them and they insist that they promote positive messages about the brand, even if those messages are put in the words of the celebrity or the social influencer, then the product of that, the tweet or the post that results from that, is an ad and needs to be properly labelled. The Company Began in 2012 and allows users to send photos that vanish in seconds. It has 100 million users daily most between the age of 13 and 24. Marnie simpson is not the only one on social media to be caught out. It happened to make up blogger shake beauty on instagram put up promoting a tea to get a flat tummy. On twitter a tv presenter presented a photo book about her favourite snack and Millie Mcintosh from channel 4 got stuck when she advertised a drink on you tube. During the investigation both companies tried to defend the promotions. But the asa does not have the power to impose fines itself but hopes the negative publicity acts as a deterrent. Enna miller, bbc news. The british explorer ben saunders is aiming to complete a world first a solo, unaided crossing of antarctica. Hes following in the footsteps of his friend Henry Worsley, who died making the attempt last year. Our correspondent tim muffett went to meet ben saunders, as he made his final preparations to complete the journey that henry began. When youve trekked to the north and south pole, what next . The plan is to make a solo, completely unassisted and unsupported crossing of antarctica on foot. So im walking from one side to the south pole and then carrying on to the opposite side of antarctica. Its never been done before. No one has ever sort of walked across under their own human motive power. The motivation for ben saunders is deeply felt. His friend Henry Worsley died last year attempting the same feat. Henry had been to me a good friend for a long time. My initial reaction for a few weeks was that i didnt want anything more to do with antarctica ever again. Itjust seemed too tragic. I started thinking perhaps the best way to honour the friendship and inspiration he gave me would be to finish the job for him. Ben, this looks exhausting. Tell us about the exercises youre having to do. This is a dead lift which uses almost your whole body. So its a strong pulling movement, off the floor with a lot of weight. This is more than twice my body weight. And you have to kind of bulk up with excess fat to last you. Yes, i put on since the summer, ten kilos, 22lbs, about a stone and a half. Some of that is muscle and some of that is deliberately fat. It must be very difficult knowing what happened to henry, that bens going to attempt the same journey. Ben has prepared well. Its hisjob. He spent 17 years doing this so ijust have to trust that he knows what hes doing and hell look after himself. Bens last trip to the south pole saw him complete the route which captain Robert Falcon scott attempted before he died in 1912. But this time, ben will be going past the south pole and onwards, alone. Henry worsley, his former school, the science block named in his honour. Then wants to speak to stu d e nts honour. Then wants to speak to students here before setting off. There are highs and lows and challenges and pitfalls. There are highs and lows and challenges and pitfallslj there are highs and lows and challenges and pitfalls. I think it is fantastic that he is continuing with henry . Cream. It is inspirational story. Short of heading for a different planet this is about as extreme challenge as you canfind. Is about as extreme challenge as you can find. A supreme test of fitness, endurance and human spirit lies ahead. Now, our next story is certainly in the category of dont try this at home. Another british adventurer reached heights of 2,500 metres, and flew nearly 16 miles across south africa in a camping chair strapped to 100 helium balloons. The 38 year old and his team spent two days inflating the balloons ready for the flight which he described as unbelievably cool. After a rapid ascent, he returned to earth by gradually cutting the balloons loose
