The gloomy conditions but milder air pushing further north on thursday, some uncertainty about the exact position, but northern scotland looks brightest, southern england looks warmest. For the end of the week, a similar story, but come next weekend, it could be cooler air once again, so make the most of the warmer conditions on offer in the week ahead. Rangers are rattled, as moult helps motherwell to reach the league cup final, where celtic await. And one of the great european days for exeter, who beat big spending montpellier in france. A harry kane double helped tottenham beat liverpool 4 1 in the premier league. Tottenhams number ten dazzled in front of another former great number ten at wembley, but liverpools defensive frailities once again contributing to their defeat. David ornstein reports. In the presence of one of the greatest players of all time, a meeting between two of the premier leagues own entertainers. Less impressive has been liverpools defence, and when they pondered, harry kane pounced. And from scorer came soon turned provider. He timed his run and finished to perfection. Attacking football of the highest order, Diego Maradona watching on and no doubt approving. At the other end, spurs werent quite so sharp. And Mohammed Salah took advantage to give liverpool and their managerfresh hope. Hope that would fade when dele alli struck on the stroke of half time, and it was that brittleness at the back that cost liverpool again. Who else but kane . In front of more than 80,000, a Record Premier League crowd, tottenham finally setting into their temporary home. David 0rnstein, bbc news. We were very clinical. And we were so aggressive, we created chances and we scored, i think, yes, always important not only that we play well but to be clinical in front of goal. Today both things, we showed a great performance. That compounded whats been a miserable day on merseyside, and another difficult afternoon for Ronald Koeman and everton, beaten 5 2 by arsenal. Before the game he said he had the backing of the everton board and insisted after that he can the clubs form around. Tim hague reports. Everton are a wounded animal at the moment, and their manager is being hunted down by the press pack, so perhaps the leader of his pride could reintroduce some pride today, and while wayne rooney made his name as a 16 year old against arsenal, 15 years later, he scored at the same end with a similarly sensational goal. But the londoners didnt deserve to be behind. Jordan pickford had denied them numerous times already, yet he couldnt stop nacho monreals follow up. And he couldnt stop what would come next either, arsenal at their irresistible best, Alexi Sanchez and mesut 0zil combining clinically, and it would only get worse for that man. Idrissa gueyes sending off for a second yellow card opened the floodgates. Three more goals were conceded, the first from alexandre lacazette, then it was Aaron Ramseys turn to get in on the act. And while the hosts got one back themselves, it couldnt disguise another awful afternoon for everton. Sanchez sealing the victory to leave the hosts in the bottom three and their manager ever closer to extinction. Tim hague, bbc news. It isa it is a tough time, this is not the position we should be on, Everybody Knows that, but even after today, i see a lot of positives, how difficult it is, because it is a negative situation for the team, and then everything is negative, but im not like that. Motherwell have booked their place in the Scottish League cup final for the first time in more than a decade with a 2 0 win over rangers. It was an englishman who lit up an all scottish affair, louis molt with two goals to send motherwell through to next months final where they meet the holders, celtic. From hampden, heres chris mclaughlin. Despite motherwells fine form going into this, rangers were expected to go through to the final, and they did what had to be done. In the first half, it was pretty much all rangers, morelos with this chance on 20 minutes, taking advantage of a shaky motherwell defence. And then portugal defender bruno alves headering just over. It looked like a case of when and not if. The pressure continued in the second half, josh windass probably should have done better with this chance, but motherwells confidence was growing, and then this. Off the bar twice, and louis moult, the motherwell star man, giving them the lead. Things got feisty after that, both managers were sent to the stand after clashing on the touchline. And as they settled into their seats, moult sent motherwell into the final with this piece of magic. Incredible vision and a clinical finish. Rangers couldnt find a way back after that, it piles the pressure on their manager, pedro caixinha, but it is all about motherwell, through to the final, where they will meet the holders, celtic. Even the sunshine in the south of france could do little to hide the size of the task facing the exeter jeeps. Playing in montpellier has been likened to the land of the giants, such is the strength in their side. They would take some stopping. But the english champions did not earn that title without a little brood strength of their own. With half time living and the sides level, the Perfect Moment for one of the biggest performers with pace and power, this was quite brilliant. But such was the ebb and flow of the game that montpelliers leads never lasted long. This fine solo try gave Gareth Steenson the chance to tell the giants. This was a victory that will rank among exeters biggest in europe. For ulster, france was also the destination, la rochelle in their first season amongst the rugby elite. They have wasted little time in making their presence felt. Indeed, ulster felt the full force. A tight ist of may quake for a bruising second, la rochelle untouchable, the new boys making a big noise. A tight first half made way. Wasps against harlequins was a huge encounter, both sides lost their opening games, but wasps we re lost their opening games, but wasps were the quickest to make amends, robson opening the scoring in the first minute. Beginning at such a speed, harlequins could not keep up, and they had a comfortable half time lead. It was not one they ever looked like letting go. The bonus point werent, wasps were running away with its their European Campaign back on track. That game in coventry has ended in the last few minutes, is wasps winning 41 10. But it looks like one player has taken a very serious injury, a long starboard in that match. Pretty nasty at the end. The womens ashes started overnight in brisbane with england losing the First One Day International against australia. It was a narrow two wicket win with Alex Blackwell top scoring on 67 not out, and jessjonassen hitting a four to ensure australias victory to go 1 0 up in the series. Disappointing, we never want to lose, especially against australia, but we didnt play well enough, and they had a really good innings. You will be heartened knowing that you underperformed with the bat, probably 30 or 40 runs in the general consensus, but you took the game so close. We didnt bowl straight enough as well as we know we can, so we need to put a full performance next game, so yeah, some positives, but like i say, disappointing to lose. A pro unity demonstration has been taking place in barcelona today as the crisis between catalonia and the government in madrid continues. The Spanish Foreign minister said today catalans should disregard any instructions from their regional officials as their authority to govern is taken away by madrid. The measures follow catalonias disputed independence referendum earlier this month. 0ur correspondent bethany bell reports. Another protest in barcelona. This one is pro spanish. It is small. These people are demonstrating in support of the spanish army and the police. It comes one day after the spanish Prime Minister said he would take steps to impose direct rule on catalonia from madrid. The catalonian government are not following the laws. They do what they want. They do not represent the catalan people, they represent a small percentage, not all of us. This is why the government has to do what it has to do. The Spanish Foreign minister says the Regional Government will soon lose authority. They will not have any legal authority, it will be a group of rebels trying to impose their own arbitrariness onto the whole people of catalonia. The plan by the Spanish Government is unprecedented. It is the first time that madrid has moved to strip a region of its autonomy and it dramatically escalate this political crisis. Yesterday almost half a million Pro Independence supporters took to the streets of barcelona. With them was the catalan leader. The separatists are defiant. The Catalan Government stretched out its hand, and the spanish Prime Minister spat on it. That is not very proper or nice. We think that now the Catalan Government is legitimised to push ahead, if it considers it appropriate, and left that suspension
