The central question for investigators, was why the attacker Stephen Paddock carried out this atrocity. President trump spoke about him earlier. He was a sick man, a demented man. A lot of problems, i guess, and we are looking into him very, very seriously. But we are dealing with a very, very sick individual. And what happened in las vegas, in many ways it is a miracle the Police Department has done such an incredible job. Department has done such an incrediblejob. We will department has done such an incredible job. We will be talking about gun laws. The attack was carried out from the mandalay bay that hill, and lies readers. And our correspondent is by there. Tell us about the work being done in the hotel, and where the crowd gathered for the concert. This is the mandalay bay, normally busy in las vegas but the roads are closed with yellow ta pe vegas but the roads are closed with yellow tape as investigations continue. We have seen Police Activity throughout the day. They recovered some 23 firearms from Stephen Paddocks room, the gunman. And some of those could have been high capacity. Also finding a computer belonging to Stephen Paddock. Possibly some hard drives. Of that is being analysed. The fbi is also searching a couple of other locations, the home of Stephen Paddock, in the state of nevada, 90 minutes from here. The 64 year old lived in a Retirement Community there. Also on the other side of nevada, another retirement location. And the fbi is also searching that. All of this because at the moment officials have said they do not have a motive for the attack that took place at the concert behind me, just after 10pm on sunday evening. The country festival. At any moment, expecting the Police Press Conference. When that begins, we will interrupt you and go to that. Some people would be surprised that anybody can give 23 weapons, large weapons, into a hotel room without anybody thinking this is unusual. That is just how it works here. Very few hotels in the us have scanning devices, airport style security. Obviously i have travelled around the world for myjob, and jerusalem, i have had to go through airport style security. The same in mumbai. If you are driving into a hotel, the car is scanned underneath, the back, boot. I have spoken to a number of people who are questioning the security of these hotels. They are hugein security of these hotels. They are huge in vegas. Many like the mandalay bay have huge capacities. Many concerns about security. The identities of some of the 59 people shot dead by Stephen Paddock have begun to emerge. Among them, an off Duty Police Officer and a teacher. People who were caught up in the attack and who risked their lives to save the injured have been talking. Our correspondent james cook reports now on the victims of the las vegas shooting. Lives wasted. Families broken, future is stolen. The faces of the dead and missing tell so many stories. Las vegas is a city in pain. There are heroes here as well. I saw a field with a bunch of white trucks, i tested my luck to see if any had keys in, and the first one we tried opening had keys sitting right there. I started looking for people to take to hospital, but there were too many, it was overwhelming how much blood was everywhere. Once we dropped them off, we thought, lets go back for round two and get some more. This is where the most seriously injured people were brought on sunday night. Surgeons say it was like a war zone as dozens and dozens and dozens of patients arrived. More than 100 in all. The battle to save lives here is continuing. But there is only so much anyone can do. Bob patterson lost his wife in the massacre. My wife was a great person. She was very active in the church. Brought up my three kids. I was with her for over 30 years. I cant believe shes gone. I have my two older kids with me and my eight year old daughter is at home. I dont know how i will tell her. I have no idea. She loved her mummy so much. Its going to be devastating. Many lives have been saved thanks to the people of this city. Thousands have volunteered to give blood to help the wounded. People need to show their support and there is a lot of people injured on the strip, i used to work in a Trauma Centre here and i know the importance of donating blood. Its been surprisingly communal. I think people are bonding together through this in a way that sometimes is very difficult in las vegas. The grief is both personal and extensive, the scale of the suffering inflicted here is difficult to comprehend and even harder to bear. James cook, bbc news, las vegas. The region said that 90 of voters were for independence and that the state has got a right to independence. But Central Government does not agree. The bbc has been reporting rate by the protest. He pointed the finger clearly at the catalunya in regional authorities. Those staging the elections on sunday. He said this was illegal. An illegal vote. That this was going to put the spanish Constitutional Order at risk. How will that go down . If you look here. Some of the tens of thousands of people who have been on the streets of barcelona today. Protesting against what they thought was police brutality. The Police Response to the vote going to polling stations with battons, fired rubber bullets. Breaking up the vote. Protesters have brought barcelona to a standstill. Buses stopped. Public transport, schools, businesses closed. It was an expression of anger at what the police did. And some support for independence. But here, people think that they are going to be viewing things differently from the way that the king put it. The mayor then made this plea. To be honest, things got more and more political. And President Trump has been tweeting heavily. The government has increased funding, also deployed this Navy Hospital ship. By signing engineers. The issue, has enough been done . First thing i want to ask. That connection between the mayor and the president . Have they met . Reconcile differences . They did meet. The mayor had talked about the fact that people had been dying because of american inefficiency. But changing the tune today she met President Trump and said she was thankful of what he has provided. That is not what he has provided. That is not what many people went. We have spoken to people who said they think they have been treated like second class citizens, and think that if this was an american state and not territory this would have been different. Donald trump did not help with initial comments. Hejoked about how much money puerto rican was costing america. And he talked about Hurricane Katrina being a real about Hurricane Katrina being a real catastrophe. This may have had fewer deaths. But for the last two weeks, most have been without power, and running water. Remember, this hurricane came right across the island. Thousands of homes destroyed. We have met some of those still living in school classrooms. Some of those did not have mattresses for nine days. For them, this has certainly been a catastrophe. They want power, water back. And they do not feel that the response has been as good as donald trump was talking about today. Has donald trump along with colleagues offered any more specific plans to get assistance to the people you have been meeting, still waiting . Talking about asking for more money from congress. To help notjust here but other places affected by hurricane is. 13 billion. But it is going to be at least 30 billion, because of the massive impact it has had on infrastructure. Power lines. Grid is down. Mobile phone communications. Roads. You can drive here. But in rural areas. You see the day the station that was caused to buildings, trees uprooted. We have seen people still moving trees here today. And we are talking about something that happened to beat ago. That sort of money has not sound like it is going to go as far as people here have been told it will. But the main complaint is that it just took far too long, people feel, for america to take this disaster seriously. And for them to have concern for people here that they would on the mainland. The red cross is unable to manage it, we are unable to manage that at the substations, as it is hard goods, water, canned goods, things that are not going to become perishable, Catholic Charities are accepting those donations. We are asking you to provide that information to the listening public and accept donations at that point. Ican give and accept donations at that point. I can give addresses.
