Baldwin says he will not shut courthouse

POTTSVILLE — Cooperation on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on Schuylkill County’s government dominated Wednesday’s discussion among President Judge William E. Baldwin, the commissioners and the row officers.
“We have made many changes. It’s working well,” Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court Theresa Santai-Gaffney said.
Until the last segment — in which Clerk of Courts Maria T. Casey reiterated her demand that Baldwin close the courthouse to the public, and the judge just as resolutely said he would do no such thing.
“We all wear masks. I bring in my own disinfectants. We spray and we clean and we do the best we can,” Casey said.
