Azerbaijan has secured its first foreign investment-based independent solar project.
Azerbaijan has secured its first foreign investment-based independent solar project.
The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan has received advice from White & Case on a 230-Megawatt utility-scale solar photovoltaic project.
The project, which will be financed, developed and operated by Abu Dhabi renewable energy company Masdar, will be situated 9 kilometres northwest of the Alat settlement, close to capital city Baku.
Commercial operation is expected to commence at the start of 2023, following which the project will help provide 0.5 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh) of electricity per year, powering over 110,000 homes and lowering emissions by 200,000 tonnes a year.
