Meeting Auckland's goal of halving carbon emissions by 2030 "will be tough", but it is achievable, the mayor says.
Auckland councillors have voted in the proposed five per cent, one-off rates rise, arguing the city needs to keep investing in infrastructure, even when revenue has taken a hit from Covid-19.
Four voted against stepping up from the initially-planned 3.5 per cent rise - councillors Greg Sayers, Wayne Walker, Sharon Stewart and John Watson.
The chair of the finance and performance committee Desley Stewart said even at five per cent, it was the lowest rates rise in the country so far, except for three small councils.
