Assam Assembly Elections 2021: Polling on in the Morigaon constituency.
Guwahati:
Assam recorded up to 63.04 per cent turnout till around 3 pm today, eight hours into polling, as phase-II voting for the state Assembly election took off. This was considerably less than the 82.7 per cent clocked by this time in 2016. Voting began slow, possibly due to the heavy overnight rains, but turned brisk as the day unfolded.
Up to 345 candidates, including four sitting ministers and the deputy speaker, are contesting today in 39 seats comprising 73.4 lakh people and 10,000 polling stations. The ruling BJP and its allies, who had swept this phase last time, are contesting in 34 of the seats, while the opposition Congress is going for 28, leaving the rest to its Grand Alliance partners.
