Ontario’s highest court told the province it can no longer deflect responsibility for poor treatment of inmates, a London lawyer says.
“I think Ontario has been put on notice that it can’t play cute with the facts. It’s certainly a victory for those seeking justice for prisoners,” Kevin Egan said Monday.

An Ontario Court of Appeal ruling released last week should force the province to acknowledge it must follow international standards on treatment of prisoners, and should clear up what looked like the province’s attempts to exempt its employees from responsibility for inmate care, Egan said.
