The author of a controversial new book on donald trump says everyone he spoke to inside the white house was critical of the u. S. President s. Government supporters in iran rally for a third day against opposition protests also this hour opening the door to diplomacy north and south korea agreed to hold talks for the first time in more than two years. And im peter stammered with all the days sports news as defending champion Serena Williams pulls out of the Australian Open all of the full details later the first news hour. Thank you for joining us the author of a new explosive book on the Trump White House has spoken publicly for the First Time Since its Early Release on friday Michael Wolff says the president has no credibility and his staff say is like a. Child who needs instant gratification while this book called fire and fury paints a highly critical picture of life inside the oval office describing the president as mentally unfit for the job trump has taken to twitter saying the book is full of lies misrepresentations and sources that dont exist but wolf told us t. V. Network n. B. C. That he stands by his claims. They say he is. A moron in the. Theres a competition to sort of get to the bottom line here of who this man is lets remember this man does not read does not listen so hes hes like. Hes like the pinball just just just shooting off the side that speak to panic ahead in washington d. C. Patty a damning portrait of the u. S. President any more bombshells in this interview. It really is a very damning portrait i think one of the most interesting things is Michael Wolff confirmed that like most journalists he actually has recordings of some of these statements now he didnt say he was going to excuse me to release those but that might be why we arent seeing anyone come out and say they didnt actually say that theyre simply saying that they were taken out of context so the one thing i think is important to point out the president is tweeting that he didnt give him access and he didnt give him permission to write the book while to say that he spent about three hours through the course of the campaign into the white house with the president and its important to point out somebody gave him access you cant simply just walk into the white house journalists say they repeatedly often saw Michael WolffWalking Around the west wing and importantly if the white house they give you a particular color badge depending on who you are journalists have a badge that theyre easily identifiable if theyre somewhere where theyre not supposed to be Michael Wolff didnt have a press badge he had an appointment badge a blue badge which basically gave him access to all over the west wing so in this interview hes saying theres literally not one person surrounding the president who thinks that he is able to do this job he says that its been a progression he said it first a lot of people said well maybe hell grow into it but he said now pretty much all of his aides think hes to quote him quite stupid and somewhat off balance but perhaps the most disturbing allegation is he says the aides around him now believe he is simply unfit to be president hes questioning his Mental Health lets listen to that you say for example that he was that mara lago and didnt recognize lifelong friends. I will quote Steve Bartman shes lost. So why does that matter besides obviously the very thought of the president and states with access to Nuclear Weapons not being mentally stable according to these allegations well its raising more talk about the twenty fifth amendment so what is that well its the amendment in the constitution that says if the Vice President two thirds of the president s cabinet members believe that he is unfit for office they can simply send a letter to the speaker of the house and the president of the senate and say hes unfit and it doesnt necessarily automatically remove him from office the president can send his own letter within four days and no im fine and then it goes to the house and the senate where they have to do is debate within twenty one days decide if the president is in fact fit for office and if two thirds of the house and senate said no they dont think he is and he could simply be removed in the Vice President takes over so this is bringing up a lot of talk in washington as to whether or not thats even a possibility its never happened its almost unthinkable but with these allegations i can tell you people in washington are thinking about it just a little bit more the question we dont know is is this cabinet patty thank you very much for that patty cohen live for us seen in washington. And other world news supporters of irans government of rallying after friday prayers and demonstrating for a third day across the country again so week of on race in which at least twenty two people have been killed on Thai Government demonstrators have been protesting over economic instability lets speak to. Who is in tehran saying how big of a crowd is this friday how much support is there for the government. Well the government seems determined to continue these pro establishment rallies and encourage its supporters to come out tens of thousands over the last few days a similar showing today it is the weekend its post friday prayers the expectation of the plan was to have a good showing of public support. With the progovernment crowd and thats exactly what theyve done again today it seems to be part of a two pronged approach by the government to cement this ridge in the country and the second prong of course being a heavy Police Presence in flashpoint cities across the country another point to. Another. Bit of information today from the government a senior cleric a close to the Supreme Leader and self spoke at friday for a friday prayers and said it is important for the country to recognize the fact that there are real enemies outside the gates he pointed to the United States to saudi arabia and blames them for trying to. Push unrest and create instability in the country now the government hasnt really provided any hard evidence of what kind of shape that kind of. That kind of as they do in these countries for kind of talk but if they do squarely say that these are the old enemies and theyre behind this unrest but but he also said the senior cleric mr mccarthy said that they do recognize the government iranian leaders do recognize that the grievances of protestors are real and there are Economic Conditions that arent perfect and they need to be addressed so there is some indication that they do have sympathies with the demonstrators that are demanding better economic circumstances for themselves and their families zain thank you for that zain thats not the life i think. Are in the grips of a historic winter storm system called a bomb on this one shows the areas that will see the worst of the record breaking low temperatures the National Weather service says heavy snow Hurricane Force winds entitled flooding are expected until late friday when the storm moves towards canada and the extreme weather has caused travel chaos with thousands of Flights Canceled leaving many travelers stranded at airports scammer elizondo reports on the. A large chunk of north america was already in a deep freeze now the northeast coast is being hit particularly hard from a winter blizzard massachusetts bearing the brunt of it blowing snow white out conditions along the coastal regions of the state there was a sea flooding. In the seaside town of scituate massachusetts boats were seen floating in icy waters all of the northeast of the u. S. Was hit with what meteorologists were loosely calling a snow hurricane it closed many schools and Government Offices in new york heavy snow and particularly high winds nearly brought the city to a halt and by afternoon most businesses had closed up for the day the mayor declared a winter storm emergency and has to residents to stay indoors. This is a serious serious storm a tween the very low temperature the strong winds the driving snow everyone should take this one very seriously and take precautions that conditions brought airports to a standstill thousands of Flights Canceled in the northeast leaving travelers either queuing up to rebook or stranded unsure of when they might be able to fly appetite was canceled and we never got any information that they would be canceled. We didnt leave and were not sure it would be on the plan in time to see further south in georgia Water Bottles were no match for the cold the rare sight with temperatures this low are highly unusual this is the first time five years have seen snow even cold an ice is much safer but back up in the northeast the situation could get worse overnight the governor of massachusetts saying friday likely wont be any better a foot of snow wasnt enough the forecast predicts single digit temperatures to move in on friday a storm that hit hard when the temperatures now expected to dip down again to minus twenty degrees celsius and below there seems little chance of much melting away gave rosendo in new york. Well lets get an update on that winter storm now i have it and fox is where this is the worst over yeah the worst of the snows certainly over folly but in terms of the cold wet the hideously cold weather has to be with us right through the weekend you can see the position of the the storm there still swirling away its now pushing across the eastern side of canada a really deep area of low pressure this is why is being called a bomb cycler because the pressure dropped literally dropped like a bomb tightly packed i suppose coming in behind in the case some very strong winds and thats why really is going to feel hideously cold so we even when youre seeing the top temperature of minus ninety and also new york theyre minus the top temperature had on the strength of the wind and it really will feel significantly colder than that and it gets colder as we go on into sassed a lot of twenty one and also amount to seventeen in toronto and minus eleven the top temps at the four new york you move on into sunday and theres signs of the moderate trying to make its way through its not really motto less cold shall we say it will be monday into tuesday before we see those temperatures getting anywhere near freezing for the likes of new york so the moment is the said because that area of low pressure will set east inside of canada was still a fair amount of snow coming through but you go on insist saturday things start to dry up start to brighten up and it should be clear dry and bright across that northeastern quarter as we go through sunday but some snow fronts have called bunny rabbits and thank you very much for that still ahead on the news hour find out why the worlds leading Tech Companies are having amounts down life. Welcome back youre watching the news hour on aljazeera with me fully back to a reminder of our top stories the author of a new book criticizing us present Donald TrumpsAdministration Says he stands by his work Michael Wolff who spent months in Trumps White House says the u. S. President has quote less credibility than perhaps anybody who has ever walked on earth at this point and of quote in the news progovernment rallies have taken praise throughout Iranian Opposition to on race in the country over economic instability the Iranian Revolutionary guard says that outside enemies have failed to polish a threat to iran adding that its the end of what they called sedition. And north korea has accepted south koreas proposal for official talks on tuesday the first between the two countries to me is the meeting will be held in need to militarize zone and is set to focus on next months Winter Olympics in pyongyang chungs soft korea. More now on our top story this hour and the Controversial Book about u. S. President donald trump joining us now is ivan eland whos a senior fellow and director of the center on peace and liberty at the independent institute is via skype from washington d. C. Thank you so much for speaking to us so what do you make first of all of everything that weve heard that spin revealed in this book over these last few days Michael Wolff says trump has no credibility that his staff sees him like a child he does not read does not listen does any of this surprise you given what weve seen and heard from the u. S. President this last year. Well i think its actually been a couple of years during the campaign and during this year in office this is just this book is sort of just reinforces what other Media Outlets such as the New York Times washington posts reliable Media Outlets have said about donald trump for a long time i think does particular author for some reason it gross incompetence or i dont know some machiavellian mystery that we dont know they let him run around in the in the on the white house for a long time he sat on a couch i guess somewhere in the white house and just interviewed over two hundred people you know staffers and everything so. You know this author has a little bit of a reputation of right you know. As he notes in his work but i dont think anyones really disproved anything that he said in this book its just sort of reinforces what other other media have reported that right as a sabbatical a correspondent in washington with selling it you know despite the controversy and you know that doubts about whats some of some of the things that have been said in this book its certainly raising talk about the twenty fifth amendment which says if a president is unfit for office he can be removed do you think thats a real possibility now with donald trump well you still have to get the congress to create a commission or you have to get the cabinet. And the Vice President to there are two ways of doing it but neither seems to be all that whitely i think what youre going to have to do is wait and see if the. Cause the democrats won the congress this year and you know actions and if they do i think theyll be moved to impeach and i think some republicans will agree because nobody likes an electoral loser the republicans are sticking with them because theyre afraid of his popularity in their own parties now or anywhere else the only is like a thirty to thirty eight percent oppose Approval Rating nationwide but it within the Republican Party he can still instill fear and thats the name of the game in washington hes threatened to sue because this book suddenly points present him in a very damning way hes threatening to sue do you think hell follow up with actual court action. Because that would be particularly risky for him wouldnt it yeah why he doesnt think its a waste of time in the United States we have a. Supreme court case in the one nine hundred seventy called prior restraint now there was under our First Amendment which gives people the right to free speech you cant. Block publication of something you can sue people after they publish it but its very difficult to block things before they go out and i think the author was on a morning show here this morning and he said id like to give trump a box of chocolates because he basically does increasing my book sales by doing this among the serious cases made in the book one of the serious one anyways about the twenty sixteen Campaign Meeting in trump tower involving a russian oil to get dirt on Hillary Clinton which trump is said to have been aware of what implications he think for investigation. Well i think they said steve bannon said that it was a treasonous meeting and steve b. And that wasnt there at the time of the meeting he wasnt working for trump at the time so this is just is opinion but i think its very illustrative and Steve Bennett has backed off because he doesnt hell lose any battle with trump and the Republican Party but i think its very interesting that somebody in the administration was making these characterizations i dont think it changes the legal situation on it because as i say wasnt in there but hes quoted in the book with some pretty strong statements about this meeting and hes right about that that is sort of a treasonous type meeting but whether i dont think all affect a legal investigation of Robert Waller thank you so much for speaking to a sock i havent even to senior fellow and director of the center on peace and liberty at the independent institute joining us now from washington thank you for your time thank you. And a Top Administration is eliminating obama even knaus that essentially took a hands off approach on enforcing federal laws in states where recreational wanna use has been legalized as natasha reports state leaders have vowed to fight any moves against whats become a multibillion dollar industry. The Trump Administration ignited outrage in the six states and the District Of Columbia where americans have the right to use marijuana for Recreational Purposes the whole concept of the interdiction of marijuana at any point in time and the prosecution persecution of those who take marijuana is absurd and this is the where alcohol is condoned advertised part of the n. F. L. On thursday the department of justice allowed prosecutors to enforce federal law which bans the sale and use of marijuana it was a departure from the approach taken during the obama years which largely left the states alone the president believes in enforcing federal law that would be as top priority the pivot in policy has renewed the debate over the rights of states and the federal Governments Authority we will not be bullied by an administration that seems obsessed with dismantling things that are actually working with these greedy. You know what came days after a law allowing the Recreational Use of marijuana went into effect in california its the sixth largest economy in the world and it spec to become the economic engine for the multibillion dollar cannabis industry in the United States some Business Owners say attaining marijuana has shifted from the drug dealer on the street to a regulated pharmacy and there is no going back you dont invest one hundred fifty Million Dollars into Legal Cannabis and operate in three states when you react to the news of the day so we were taken a long time on this and we think that long term on this. Has already changed some predict that the department of justice wont have the resources to specifically target marijuana americans are already grappling with an Opioid Epidemic which the trumpet ministration has designated a Public Health emergency or in the middle of an Opioid Crisis right now that is killing more Young Americans than any other cause of death so its kind of difficult for me to see how a u. S. Attorney would decide to use their discretion to go after ten of us instead of opioids the number of states where americans can legally use marijuana for recreation is growing people in massachusetts and maine are waiting for laws to go into effect natasha aljazeera. At least four hundred thousand people in thailand are considered stateless with no registered citizenship the actual number could be more than three million many are members of ethnic minorities living in border areas as when harry forced on my tongue its a problem the Thai Government wants to resolve by twenty twenty four. In the hills of northern thailand there are millions of people whose lives have been hanging in the balance for years people in this village in chiang mai province belong to the ethnic group whose ancestors migrated around the region centuries ago facing persecution along the way. Those living here now have been in thailand for generations but many still dont have type paperwork the village chief says he was the last person here to be granted citizenship sixteen years ago. And in the past i only had a car that identified me as a highlander but now i have a tiny nationality car im very happy when i have money i can buy everything i want i can buy a house a car im glad those things remain a dream for so many others like hmong tong d. D. Who was born in thailand to parents from me and my eight years ago he won a paper plane throwing competition and was granted a temporary passport to represent thailand at a competition in japan the government at the time promised he would be granted permanent status upon his return hes now twenty and is still stateless he works part time in a drone shop and teaches stateless children how to fly them. I feel very sad because people promised they would give me time nationality they were senior people and had promised me when i was just a little boy but they broke their promise. Last year the military government valid to grant time nationality to another eighty thousand people but that would still leave hundreds of thousands if not more waiting there are many challenges facing stateless people in thailand they have to ask for permission before leaving their village they have difficulty accessing proper education or employment and can often become victims of corrupt government officials trying to take advantage of their vulnerability. In fact in the last few years many people have had their id cards revoked after it was found they had paid bribes for them at this small Government Office alone four thousand corrupt cases were uncovered the government sent in more staff to resolve the problems but those in charge say the workload is huge. This is a very delicate job and it can slide into corruption so we have to be careful thats why we can only process two nationality cases per day. For people waiting its not just a case of having an id card its a measure of dignity pride and a sense of belonging after generations of uncertainty when hey al jazeera may turn district thailand japan is insisting it will not agree to any changes to a compensation deal for socalled conflict women it agreed with south korea during the Second World War thousands of south korean women were forced to work in japanese brothels under the twenty fifteen agreement tokyo apologized and said it would provide eight point eight Million Dollars in compensation so now says the deal is flawed. And this is a promise to the International Community therefore the japanese government as previously stated is not considering to move one millimeter on this japanese korean deal.
