Valentine’s Day 2021, and especially the week that followed, will linger long in the memories of Abilenians and all other Texans.
We typically think of it as a holiday devoted to love, but as we huddled in our homes—many of them without power or water due to the extreme cold—it was hard to think about romance or tenderness.
But when I think about our community’s response to this latest hardship, I can’t help being reminded of love — especially the other-centered love spoken of in the Bible: what the Greeks called agapé, the love that seeks the benefit of someone else.
