Start your journey with a sunset. Alappuzha Beach is among the popular places in town. There’s a 150-year-old pier that extends out into the sea and is a great place to take in the incredible colours of the day’s last rays as they turn different shades in the sky. Don’t miss the lighthouse either. Built in 1862, during the reign of the Travancore dynasty, it’s open to the public for a short period every day, between 3pm and 4.30pm. The beach is also where festivals are celebrated, the Alappuzha Beach Festival is held during New Year’s celebrations every year while in April, you can catch the Sand Art Festival.
