An apparent fight over passengers in Mpumalanga ended tragically when a five-month-old baby died allegedly after the woman carrying her was hit by a taxi.
The taxi driver, Sibonise Patrick Mathebula, 31, appeared in the Amersfoort Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said Mathebula had allegedly ignored a stop sign as he chased after a white Toyota Avanza from Ermelo.
He allegedly lost control of the vehicle and hit two pedestrians - a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, carrying a five-month-old baby.
