37-MILLION PEOPLE ARE NOW FULLY VACCINATED.### AND AS MORE VACCINE BECOMES AVAILABLE.. THAT MEANS MORE PEOPLE ARE BECOMING ELIGIBLE TO GET IT.. IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY.. BEGINNING TODAY THEY STARTED OFFERING THE VACCINE TO PEOPLE AS YOUNG AS 16. BUT NOT EVERYONE WILL QUALIFY.. WITH MORE ON WHO CAN GET THE VACCINE.. WE GO TO ACTION NEWS 8 REPORTER FELIX CORTEZ LIVE IN SANTA CRUZ.. #### ERIN.. THE COUNTY FOLLOWING NEW STATE GUIDELINES TO VACCINATE THOSE WITH HIGH RISK MEDICAL CONDITIONS.. AND THAT INCLUDE LOWERING THE AGE TO 16.. beginning monday santa cruz county expanding covid vaccinations to those between the ages of 16 and 64.. who have high risk medical conditions that put them at greater risk of hospitalization or eve death should they get the coronavirus. (2:32 so that would include anybody who is immune compromised who's immune system for reason or another is not working as well as most of our immune systems :45) T-2 (GRAPIC IN that would include people with some of the following conditions.. cancer, chronic kidney and pulmonary disease, heart conditions, type 2 diabetes, organ transplants.. and women who are pregnant encouraged to get the vaccine.. GRAPHIC OUT) (5:34 there is some protection offered to the fetus and the newborn baby with passing the mom's antibodies onto the baby so there's some goo protection for both mother and baby :45 to get this vaccine during pregnancy :48) santa cruz county continues to be ahead of other counties here on the central coast when it comes to vaccinating it's population.. healt leaders say 1/3 of all eligible persons have been vaccinated.. as well as most of those 65 and older.. in large part because the county has multi-county entities like sutter and dignity health.. (8:15 residents ar covered by those multi county entities, far more than say Monterey or san benito :21 and that's enabled us to really get ahead of the curve in terms of per capita vaccination :27) THE VACCINE IS AVAILABLE TO THOSE WHO LIVE OR WORK IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY.
